Lawal said that the since codeine had been banned by the Federal Government, many youths now sniff pit latrine and lizard dung as substitute. He said that there was urgent need to discourage the use of pit latrines by the government at all levels. He urged community leaders to sensitize their people and ensure they dispose lizard dung in their environment by burying it.
According to him, lizard dung comprises uric acid and all reptiles excrete uric acid.
He said, “The vapour of decomposing human dung has effect on the central nervous system, producing narcosis just like codeine when inhaled. People using pit latrine should dehydrate it with sulphuric acid or the government can recycle human defecation to make bio-gas for economic benefits.

DeleteIf the govt discourages the use of pit latrines, what will happen to people for whom that is the only recourse? Do they want the poor people to resort to the bushes and streams to begin polluting the already heavily polluted environment?
ReplyDeleteThese people should stop being reactionary. We have a public health time bomb on our hands! They should consult with public health specialists to find a sustainable solution to this terrible addiction menace.....and not least of all they should provide a conducive environment so that these youths can envision better for themselves and thrive!!!
