The Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Mr. Festus Ovie Agas disclosed that the process which fished out the ghost workers was through biometric verification of staff in the state, including the recently introduced clock in,clock out measure.
He said: “So far, the partial outcome of the verification exercise, has revealed the reduction of staff strength of about 65, 000 at the inception of Okowa-led administration to about 47,000 at present, therefore about 26,000 ghost workers have been fished out even though it may not have correspond with the figures.
He said that 18, 000 others were discovered to be parading “fake credentials”, adding that the verification exercise was not to witch-hunt anybody, but to ensure the integrity of the state’s payroll, and determine the exact number of personnel at different segments of the state workforce including available vacancies.
The SSG, however, lamented that spectra of ghost workers had drained enormous resources from the state government, adding that the exercise was ongoing with a view to helping the state government to achieving even distribution of personnel at the end of the exercise.
