Nigerian author, Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie, joined the #MeToo movement as she disclosed she was assualted at age 17.
She revealed this during an address at the just concluded Stockholm Forum for Gender Equality.
Adichie, who delivered the closing keynote address, shared how she had written a book of poems and taken it to a “big man in the media” who she felt would support her quest to have it introduced to the public.
She narrated how the man slipped his hand under her clothes and then into her bra to squeeze her breasts within minutes of praising her for writing a book.
“I was so shocked that I did nothing for seconds but then, I pushed his hand away, gently, nicely,because I didn’t want to offend him.
“Later that day, I broke out in a rash on my face, neck and chest, as though my body was recoiling, as though my body was saying what my lips had not said,” she shared.

My Daddy's friend did this thing to me when I was much younger. I was picking beans on the dinning backing my Dad and other guests,I had greeted this man before,he just came to me and grabbed my small breasts,of course no one could have seen him. I was shocked.I couldn't talk for a while. I avoided all the guests that day,even my Dad and to say I was my Daddy's pet, he could've killed the man that day if I mentioned it.

My first experience was when I was 4 years old ,I was playing in a neighbour's house. That same neighbour was our family friend, I recalled him showing me his p... There was one whitish liquid on it ,he said I should touch it, I just looked on. And his wife was seated beside him she was smiling. This memory is still fresh in my head. I am in my late 30s. I couldn't tell anyone, even up till this moment.

I was only able to tell two friends this year ,but none of my family heard about it. Parents beware of your surroundings, as your children can be assaulted right under your nose.

DeleteAn aunty I was staying with I was even an adult at 23. It was normal for us to enter their room to greet them in the morning and when you come back from work or school.
One day I knocked and I brought him his food in the room. Next thing he took my hand and put it on his erect penis. I just removed my hand and ran out. I wasn't sexually active so I didn't even understand. I let it slide and didn't tell anyone. Was thinking maybe its a mistake. This is a 70yr old man.
Second time was months later, entered the room to give him something. Before I knew he wanted to pull me to the bed. All this while the wife will be out and the children in boarding school. I was working in lagos and my parents stays in Enugu.
I ran out and called my mother, who told me to lock myself in the room till the wife returns.
We never told her because this woman knows the husband cheats, I got to find out he has impregnated the maid before and she knows all these things and claim all the woman seduce her husband.
I started saving up for my own place. One year later I left, because if I had left then out of the blues they will suspect something. I avoided the man and never enter his room till I left.
Stella is it everybody that you can slap....sometimes the incidents leave you speechless and dumb that you just want the ground to open and swallow you.

My mother was at her shop and we were home. According to him, he came to see how we were doing after seeing my mom and just before leaving, he planted a very moist kiss on my lips!
Even as a child then, I knew it was wrong and inappropriate but I just froze in place. My siblings were nowhere to be seen and it happened so fast.
I ran to the bathroom quickly to wash my mouth with soap and water and didn’t see that uncle after that episode, thank God.
May Almighty God help our children from Evil Men..

My brothers friend did that to me when i was just about 10. He was a teenage guy and we were playing double hide and seek. So he hid beside the staircase (the wall you back when you're headed through the door downstairs). So as I was trying to run down the stairs to hide from my younger sister, he grabbed me and put his hands underneath my shirt. It's sad cos at 10 I didn't have any boobs 🤣 i just turned around jumped up (cos he was taller) and slapped him. And gave him a stern warning never to try that with me again. Then I ran down the stairs. I've never told anyone this story 😊
ReplyDeleteWhen l was12 years old, we had a male help. During long vacation, l was sleeping in the afternoon when l felt a part of the mattress been pushed down. I woke up to find our male help, stark naked, trying to position himself on me. It was his hands pushing the side of the mattress down that woke me up. I opened my eyes and asked him what he was trying to do and told him l will tell my Dad. He kept begging and I immediately ran out of the house to our neighbor's house. Luckily, the oldest of our neighbor's son was home and l told him. He told me to stay at their place till my Dad returned. When my Dad came back, Dude was gone. His room in the BQ, was swept clean. My Dad was a Judge and asked how he could be at work sending people to prison for committing rape and he had someone trying to rape his own daughter in his house.
ReplyDeleteMy second experience was when l was 19. My Dad had dies in a car crash and one of his friends, a judge has seen my younger brother walking along Forces Avenue in PH. He stopped and asked my brother how we were all doing and told my brother that l should come see him as he has not seen me in a long time. He gave my brother some money. Being broke and seeing the money he gave my brother, l went over to the high court complex to see this Judge. He asked me my plans for School and l told him l did not buy JAMB form before the date and so l had to wait till the next year. He gave me some money and boy was l glad. He told me to come see him once JAMB forms were out as he will give me money for it.
My people, JAMB forms came out and l went to his office. He gave me more than enough money for the form. He then unzipped his pants, pulled his erect penis out and told me to touch it. I could not. I folded my arms across my chest. He reached out and took my right hand toward his penis. I could not and tried to pull my hand back and out of his grip. He kept telling me it was okay that l should do it. I got so lucky his secretary opened the door without knocking to tell him someone was waiting to see him. The penis shrunk real quickly and back it went back into his pants. I used the opportunity and bade my farewell. He felt the secretary might think something seeing l was standing right next to him. He acted as if he just wanted to give me money for transport. He brought out money again, gave it to me. I thanked him again and left. I never saw him again. Never ever went back to that office.
A year later, l ran into his wife at the market. I asked of him and she told me he was very sick. How it be nice if we can come see him as he had a stroke. I went to the house and saw him. He was now handicapped and just like that. Not sure if he recognized me. I left for School later in Jos. He died right before l was to begin my first semester.
Parents need to keep an eye on their kids. Do not trust nobody with your kids. Not even the Arch Bishop. Mine was a high court judge. Very well known back then.
