OCD is Obsessive Compulsive Disorder.
I had gone digging and I read more about OCD since the day I shared my shoes hoarding story here.I Recall that some bvs said I have a form of OCD. Lols.
Now, the most disturbing definition is the one that says 'OCD is a form of mental illness'. Does it mean I have 'menta'? Hahahaha
I saw many definitions and explanations. #wikipedia defines OCD as a mental disorder where people feel the need to check things repeatedly, perform certain routines(called 'rituals'), or have certain thoughts repeatedly (called 'obsessions').
I saw some of the symptoms too which includes frequent and excessive hand washing, counting of things, checking of things repeatedly, etc. They also said 'some may have difficulty throwing things out'
Chai! Mama Tee is done for.
They said it has treatment, should I start planning to go get treatment? I don't think so, mine is not serious, I only find it difficult to throw shoes out, old, worn-out shoes. I arrange them neatly in a corner of my room together with the good ones. Hahahahaha
On a serious note, I recently discovered that I also find it difficult to throw other things out - empty beverage tins and other containers like Jam, honey and Bama jars, soft drinks and bottled water containers, etc, I feel they would be useful in storing some things. Also worn-out clothes, I keep them to use as rags in future. Hahahahahaha
See me see 'menta' oh hehehehehehe.
Since it doesn't generate to full blown madness, no cause for alarm abi? let me start throwing the things away. Lols
There was this woman in my house when I was young. We used paid government water back then which was dispensed through a tap at the back of the house. Boreholes and wells were not common.
Anytime there was water, we all would gather our containers on a queue and fetch. In a few hours everyone would be done fetching water except Mama Timo, this woman would fetch water late into the night, she would fill everything that has holes in her house with water. This included empty pots, deep plates, bottles, etc. Note that anytime there was water again, she would throw out the remaining water in these containers and fetch all over again.
The following day, she would bring out heaps of clothes and sit beside the tap to wash. She would wash and wash, she would wash shoes too including her children's dunlop slippers that they wore around. She would scrub the outsole of these shoes and slippers (the part that touches the ground) she would scrub very well and then give the slippers back to her kids to wear. Hahahahahahahahahaha
Now that I remember Mama Timo, I'm just wondering, was this OCD or something else?
Do you have any OCD story? Let's learn
Mama Tee
*Your own is not OCD abeg, you are lazy and stingy..lol

DeleteYour own is really a big p abeg. Lol
ReplyDeleteLearn to dash or throw away things you aint using. Not hard thing at all.
I see people that keep unnecessary load as dirty people.
They are called hoarders not dirty. It’s another form of mental disorder. Pls broaden ur knowledge
DeleteHa is like I have OCD, I find it difficult to throw out cans, even empty cream containers, empty cartons, so man things, my mind will be tellin to keep them that they might be useful, at the end, the whole house will be littered, then I will now throw them away but my village people will still whisper to me to keep one of each incase it might be useful. This is so funny.
ReplyDeleteHehehehehehehe....
DeleteThat is hoarding disorder not OCD
DeleteHehehehehe
Delete😂😂😂😂😂.
DeleteKeep inviting rats oo.
DeleteHahahahahaha
DeleteI battled with this and I've won. Throw without thinking twice. I emptied my wardrobe one time and left only the stuff I wear regularly. Cos I realised I was keeping stuff I hadn't worn in years. I felt like i didnt have enough stuff, for a while. But it worked.
DeleteNa wa!
ReplyDeleteLol! @menta
ReplyDeleteI wash hands a lot too, I don't horde things cos I don't like cluster/clutter, I like my space to breath. My bedroom is like a hotel room.
They call me miss arrangee, in fact if I come your house I will start looking for things that are out of order to place them well.
My own tie wrapper wear gele for head, but I am working on it now. It's not as bad as it used to be, I am learning to overlook somethings, restraint and reining in my over cleaning/arrangee attitude.
I nearly passed out one day from cleaning my already clean house, cos I felt the new cleaner didn't do a good job, thank God my hubby was close by and caught me before I hit the floor. I was placed on bed rest for a few days, after spending a night in the hospital. After that incident I gave myself brain, as the house was still there and didn't catch fire nor did I die from not cleaning it for a few days.
By the time you have active kids running around , no one will tell you to slow down. My kids have cured my OCD
DeleteLol @space to breathe.
DeleteYou're probably an interior minimalist (with your accommodation)
Lol! @anon I don't dey cure myself small small.
DeleteYou're right though.
Chikito you're right too about my accommodation (now I have a name for it), I just love spacious space lol! My hubs too.
You don't have OCD @mamatee,do you ways Obsessive Compulsive cleaners on TLC???its scary, see poeple that has a room filled to the brim with Orisirisi that they don't need anymore till it spills everywhere and they get to be helped by Obsessive Compulsive cleaners;those ones use hours to clean per day,a lady and her daughter uses atleast 9hrs per day on cleaning, can't live a regular life and hasn't had any visitors in 5years cos they might bring in germs, its ridiculous!!!!
ReplyDeleteI watch my hands every hour
ReplyDeleteMy body won't be okay if I don't wash my toilet, mop and clean everywhere every weekend.
Bit I know I don't have OCD. 😁😁😁😁
Overdoing of things is where the mental state comes in
*wash oo

Hoarding o, OCD o, all na mental illness.
Mama Tee you're a hoarder.
ReplyDeleteExactly
DeleteI wash my face at an uncountable times in a day... I am just so obsessed with washing my face, I hardly keep a makeup on my face for a day.. once I gets to where I am going I will look for very possible means to wash it off my face.. my friends know me they dare rub powder on my face I am definitely done for that day cos they know I would find every means to clean it off.. I think that’s d only thing I do that I am obsessed with...
ReplyDeleteHoney boo boo we can't be friends 🤣
DeleteLol... as in ehn I tire for myself too
DeleteMost ladies are guilty of this disorder in one way or the other..
ReplyDeleteTrue. Especially single ladies. By the time you are a working class married woman with kids, the OCD will clear automatically (when do you want to have the time to mop the floor everyday let alone 3 times a day?
DeleteHahahaha@mamaTimo...
ReplyDeleteI don't have any OCD ooh,I only wash my toilet five times every day and mop three times a day. But I notice I don't like sharing toilet with people even if you're my blood relation. Once a visitor uses my toilet I must wash ,scrub and pour izal and dettol inside the WC and cover it for 6hrs before using it no matter how hard am pressed. That's my only ish**aside from that ain't got any issue.
You cover toilet for 6 hours and wash your toilet 5 times a day and mop 3 times a day?? Okokobioko.
DeleteNurse Lieanna, you dey shit scatter scatter shi abi wetin happen?
E con be like say na inside the toilet gaaan you wan get your degree, 2:1 in Lieology Bsc Hons. Tuale Mama.
Please no be me be the anon wey you say dey drag pant with you, I just say make I greet you dis pm.
When you get married are you going to stop your husband and kids from using the toilet? Just be praying for husband that cleans toilet after use. Most of them are "splashers"
DeleteHoarding is way different from OCD,some pple are mistaking both! My own goes thus sometimes when i lock my door or turn off the gas,i always go to check/confirm,always wanting things to be exactly how i left it.
ReplyDeleteHahahahhahaha
ReplyDeleteMama tee have killed me. That Mama Timo's own is worse. All of you have OCD, but some are more serious that the rest. The leader is Mama Timo, followed by Mama tee and then Stella
Hahahahaa..followed by terry G.
DeleteStella is right. You don't have OCD. You just a hoarder!
ReplyDeletemy own is that before I leave my house I will change the control switch to neutral and once I reach door I will go back like 3 times to confirm that it is in neutral. also when I lock my door to leave, I will still go back and confirm if I locked it. how it happen is that if I want to leave one spirit will tell me "are you sure you off your light and lock the door? better go and confirm "
ReplyDeletethe other spirit will tell me to ignore the voice that I off the light and locked the door.
that spirit will come back and tell me "I ma na mgbe eji ekwu ana eteka , is it not just to go back and confirm "
fiam ! I will turn back and go and confirm it wella.
this is so me sometimes
DeleteHahahhahahahahahhahaha
DeleteChike oooo
Look at me laughing out loud
God, I do this atimes ooo
Especially my gas, will go back to check again
Lmao...This is 100% me. I can just jump up in the middle of the night to check the doors again. Sometimes, my husband will pin me to the bed but lai lai,I must stand up and check or else no sleep for me that night. The man sef don taya for my matter
DeleteI also do this. I will check all the doors and windows like 3times before going to bed and why on the bed my spirit will still be telling me to go and check. Na wa
DeleteThank God I'm not alone in this. At a point I became worried that something is wrong with me. I know I locked the door or have my keys or phone but I must go back and check or go through my bags again and again. At work nko? I must cross check and cross check my calculations if not my spirit will not rest even though I know it tallies. I'm tired abeg 😳
DeleteWow!
DeleteThis is me. I do this all the time.
reminds me of a man(married) in my area. this one mops even the walls outside his house. rumour has it dat, he must have worked as a houseboy in his youngers days. becos his cleaning is on anoda grade. first time i saw him mopping the walls outside, i was like won ti get baba yi sha. untill someone told me i never see anything.
ReplyDeleteEhhhh!!!
DeleteMama Tee you are a hoarder and not OCD............. there are different programmes on dstv that you see these hoarders. Some have filled their homes so much with useless items that there is even no space for them to sleep in their own homes. Some the state has to get involved because they are now living in inhabitable homes and are a danger to themselves and neighbors, harboring rats and other pest. If they don't clear out their house, they will loose the house.
ReplyDeleteYou have to take control now and it becomes worse. Throw away the unwearable one's don't even keep it with hope of dashing out. The ones in good condition you can keep for charity, and leave the shoes you still use. A shoe you havnt worn for 5years no use keeping them.
For me, every year I travel, I buy new shoes and clothes. And when I come-back I always do a clear out before arranging new clothes/shoes. Anything I havnt worn in a while, I give them out. I cant just stand a cramped room and cupboard. I like airy light and tidy environment.
I am also very clean, my home you have to remove your shoes before coming in at the door. Wash your hands when you come inside(that is for us).
if I see a grain or any dust or dirt on my floor. Even if its 3am I will sweep that floor. Don't like any form of dirt touching my feet.
I don't think I'm OCD though, I'm just particular about cleanliness of my home.
3am faaaa
DeleteMy own no reach this one oo
This post is very funny and interesting. I will be back to read more comments.
ReplyDeleteMama tee I love you. Your posts are always interesting and educative.
Kudos to you.
So hilarious
DeleteI am laughing so hard 😂😂😂😂😂😂
Na WA
ReplyDeleteI find that I count things a lot, when I come back from the market and I'm washing and putting away the meat I start counting it unconsciously, when taking out from the fridge an putting in the pot, I'm counting again. I count the squares in a ceiling, anything sha that is countable, I count it unconsciously sha.
ReplyDeleteHian! And you sef balance.
DeleteYou no even know say you don kolo?
When village people wan use pesin first blow whistle na so e dey start. Smh.
Countus abi Countalina better go and find cure for your problem.
Lmaooooo
DeleteChai! This your own is serious and it will not add value to your life except to make you sleep.
DeleteMy own is if I am enjoying a novel or a post with interesting comments, I read the lines over and over again. When I want to move to the next line, my mind tells me to go back to the previous line and read it again. Chai! I don tire! But if its a boring novel or post, my eyes will just be flying over the paragraphs till I get to the end.
Hmmm... My BIL said counting meat is a sign of poverty. My sister used to do it before. He told her to stop she couldnt. until one day he asked her: why are you counting meat as if I'm a poor man? It was a big quarrel oh 🤣🤣 He even called my mum to report. since that day she stopped.
DeleteI count too, but more of objects like sign posts on my route, a particular colouor brand of car per day, on Sundays I chooses a colour or type of cloth or shoe to count (minus all those departments that wear uniform, just random people that wore similar thing).
DeleteMy mind is always restless, so that's my own way of calming it. You're not alone.
No mind anon 16:17 you're perfectly balanced lol!
Anon 16:17 you're cray 😂😂😂😂.
DeleteI count meat oh cos it's a guideline on the size of the soup; will you use a whole goat to cook a soup that will last for a week for the family?
I also re read any interesting plot or line over and over again. Reason is that I love reading and I have a very imaginative mind na so I go dey bring up several scenes for my mind and giggling like a fool 😂
Ikwakwakwakwakwakwakwakwakwakwakwakwakwakwa
ReplyDeleteSo our Oga Stella too follow get "menta". Ikwakwakwakwakwakwakwakwakwa
Stella go see doctor ooo, we love you.. I know say better treatment dey for that side, no be for naija here wey be say, them go help person turn the OCD to real madness.
That Mama Timo story don scatter my brain with laughter
Ikwakwakwakwakwakwakwakwakwakwakwakwa
Mama Tee, you remind me of the government water we used to fetch back then in Surulere few years ago. Come and see fight at the tap. Chai!
ReplyDeleteBefore I moved to Surulere, I never knew there was government water in Lagos.
That your Mama Timo cannot try that rubbish beside this particular tap o. Water wey never reach people to fetch for cooking and drinking. Na fight dem go take pursue her comot for the place. When bucket land for her head, she go run leave her clothes for there.
My friends in Falolu and Ekololu, Itire Road, still use government water till date.
When i hear stories like this, I wonder if I actually grew up in lagos 🤷♀️
DeleteMama tee this is not ocd, someone with ocd doesn't hoard things ,instead they throw them out cos they love space and love to clean alot, hoarding things can make the place dusty. People with ocd clean and washing every mins, they clean a seat before sitting on it, they can arrange maggi cube to be orderly let a particular letters or wprds face up, yup funny enuf I did it last month set, thhley easily feel irritated by things and it isn't easy for those who aren't ocd to stay with them. To those who are ocd they derive joy in cleaning.
ReplyDeleteHoarding is a try of Obsessive compulsive disorder
DeleteThey are obsessed with keeping things and cannot throw things away
annon 15:26 na wa oh why you come dey count, count. i no fit laugh oooooo. dis one na real ocd.
ReplyDeletechike tefflon .ur own na helele.laughing @ fiam i will go and back and check it again.
Mine is that I can never walk around the house , no matter how clean it is barefoot.
ReplyDeleteI always wash my hands almost every hour.
I hate when someone leaves a room and doesn’t close the door...it annoys me eh. I must go and close that door , even if you will be back in a second, close the door!!
I don’t like to share my toilet, even with my husband. We sleep in a room but use different toilets. I must wash the toilet after each usage.
When I arrange the house you dare not scatter it.
Need I say that I hate noise with passion. Noise keeps me angry and sad for about 30 mins later before I become normal again.
What do I call mine now, OCD or...?
Me too @barefoot
DeleteI wash my hands regularly too. I have dry skin and that doesn't help cos most hand wash aren't sulfate-free. When I'm at home its not an issue.
I hate open doors too. That one na cos of mosquito I'm sure (AA😁)
And i hate noise like mad 🤣
Hi twinny 👋
Hahahahahahahahahaa! If I live with u, you will throw me out cos I can make noise! This ur own is OOCCDD.
Delete
ReplyDeleteI don't have OCD but I can hardly sleep outside the house but if I do, I must ensure the doors are locked always. I can wake up in the midnight just to check if the doors are locked.
Mine is nothing compared to one dude I know. His own is story for another day. He has a particular spot for his couch and you dare not move it an inch. His cup must be placed in a certain way. He can't focus and enjoy the TV shows if his curtain is rumpled just a bit. He will clean and clean and arrange until he is almost out of breath.
One thing with OCD is that, the person may be obsessed with neatness yet he can go ahead and sleep with ladies without protection...it makes no sense.
Its all fun and games until you marry such men then you will understand.
OCD is a mental disorder
Hoarding is a mental disorder
KING XOXO MYSTERY
Kwawakwakwakwakwa
ReplyDeleteI have almost died of laughter from reading comments
Mama tee where have you been all these years? Your write-ups bring joy to the soul
You people will not kill me on this blog. Lol @ OOCCDD. Hehehehehe Lmao
ReplyDeleteWhen I saw plenty comments I knew there is fire on the mountain. OCD brouhaha
For me I arrange things accordingly, e.g: inside the fridge there is a particular way the eggs must be arranged, the small side must be up or down, no mixture. My cutleries are arranged in a particular way. My cooker is always cleaned all the time, my bed must not be rumpled not even small. The curtains must be opened the exact way like the other. I don't walk barefoot in the house and my husband likes scattering the whole house after cleaning, well I will reclean again. I count my clips for clothing , Aldo I count my cloth when spreading it and there is a particular way they must be spread, trousers must be on same side and the edges must be on same side too. The throway pillows are arranged exact way. The slice bread in the house are always taken with care and I mist not see it littered on the floor.there is a particular way the plates are arranged on the rack.I arranged food in sizes in the freezer. They mustn't be scattered. You mustn't put your leg on my chair. There is a lot of list jare. And my husband and son are the opposite of me, when they are done I can be crying and cleaning, so far it is cleaning. I hate noise with passion but hubby and son loves loud music or TV. The list is endless ooo
ReplyDelete
