A 45-year-old married man signed a 16-year-old Allentown girl out of a charter school 10 times between November and February, according to court documents, and since police started asking questions, the pair have gone missing.

Kevin Esterly and Amy Yu, a student at Lehigh Valley Academy Charter School in Hanover Township, Northampton County, were both last seen Monday near her family's home on North 18th Street, according court records.

A missing person alert issued Wednesday by Allentown police listed both as possibly "endangered," a label given when police have indications of serious trouble.

In court records, investigators said Esterly and Yu have a "secretive relationship."

Esterly, who has no known permanent address but owns property with his wife in Lowhill Township, is described as 5 feet 9 inches and 185 pounds. Yu is described as 4 feet 11 inches and 90 pounds.

They may be using Esterly's 1999 red, two-door Honda Accord with the license plate KTL0529, according to court records.

According to court records, Esterly signed Yu out of the school 10 times between Nov. 13 and Feb. 9 without her parents' permission.

Susan Mauser, the school's CEO, said she is investigating whether all protocols were being followed in Yu's case.

"A student can be picked up only by someone on the emergency contact list that is provided by the parents," Mauser said.

She declined to comment on whether Esterly was on Yu's emergency contact list.

Mauser said when Yu's mother, Miu Luu, came to pick up her daughter from school on Feb. 9, she learned Esterly had already picked up the girl. Mauser said Luu was upset and said Esterly should not have picked her daughter up. According to Mauser, school officials encouraged Luu to call police.

Police said Luu did call them Feb. 9. Court records do not show whether police took any action that day.

Mauser said the school is cooperating with police. Esterly "has not stepped foot on school grounds" since Feb. 9 when "we were made aware he was not to pick up" the girl, she said.

On Feb. 15, Yu's mother again called police, who came to the Luu home, where they told Esterly and his wife, Stacey Esterly, that they had to stay away from the girl's home, according to court records. The documents do not explain why the couple were there.

A few days later, police interviewed Yu and she said Kevin Esterly had signed her out of school five or six times, according to court records, which led investigators to check Lehigh Valley Academy's records.

On Monday, Yu's mother reported the girl as a runaway. Police said Yu was believed to have last been seen with Esterly about 7:09 a.m. at North 15th and West Allen streets. Yu's personal documents and jewelry had been taken from her room, her mother said.

Police contacted Stacey Esterly, who said she last saw her husband about 6:05 a.m. Monday. Kevin Esterly's personal documents were missing and, she said, he had withdrawn $4,000 from his wife's bank account.

Esterly has several minor prior criminal charges which were dismissed. He is listed in several small claims cases dating back to 2007 and court records indicate he is a concrete contractor.

Kevin and Stacey Esterly have been married since 2005, according to her social media profile. The couple filed for and were granted Chapter 7 bankruptcy in 2013.
