EFCC Grills Former Borno Gov Ali Modu Sheriff

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC on Monday grilled Ali Modu Sheriff former governor of Borno State...

Operatives questioned the former factional National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, for hours at the agency’s office in Abuja, the nation’s capital.

It was gathered that Sheriff was questioned on how he raised $72million to buy a G650 Gulfstream aircraft after leaving office in 2011.

The politician has at least two private jets.

Sheriff is also accused of benefiting from $200million released by the Jonathan administration to facilitate Boko Haram ceasefire in a neighbouring country in 2014.

The operatives also want to establish if the said amount was transmitted by a top presidential aide to a foreign leader, who has a personal relationship with Sheriff.

Aside these, Sheriff was also presented with records of monies shared ahead of the 2015 general election.

The anti-graft agency had on June 6, 2016, grilled Mohammed Wakil, who was the PDP campaign coordinator for Borno State.

A statement then by the Head of Media and Publicity at the EFCC, Wilson Uwujaren narrated Wakil’s recount.

Wakil was quoted as saying the N450 million allocated to Borno was shared as follows: “Nicholas Msheliya, Peter Biye, Hon. Kudla satumaria, Hon. Ibrahim Birma, all from Southern Borno received the sum of N112,340.000.00.

“Equally Hon. Kangar, through Dr. Kulima A.A received N88, 620.000.00, while Engr Mohammad Baba Kachalla, Hon. Kaamuna Khadi, Hon. Zarma Mustapha and Hon. Abdulrahman Tarab received the sum of 140,860.000.00.

“Similarly, the sum of N40 million was allegedly given to Hon. Kumalia, for onward transmission to Sen. Ali Modu Sheriff for Security”.

Meanwhile, Sheriff was yesterday granted an administrative bail. His interrogation continues today.

  3. Government of a million thieves irrespective of party affiliations. People who prior to entering politics had only a few thousand naira to rub together; after entering politics, now compete with each other on who stole the most from the public purse: How does Ali Sheriff get to own two private jets after serving as governor of Borno State? Did Sheriff invent an enterprise, like Bill Gates of Microsoft at any time? Whatever happened to the missing $12 Billion under IBB's watch? How about OBJ, Bankole, Abacha, etc.? 9ja is still playing with these "monstrous rats" to its detriment... Go figure.
