The Federal Government decried the poor performance of the foreign trained medical and dental graduates as only 249 were successful in the examination conducted in November 2017.
Prof. Isaac Adewole, Minister of Health, said in Abuja on Thursday at the induction of the 243 successful medical doctors and six dental graduates that participated at the remedial course and assessment; aimed at ensuring that the standard of training obtained abroad by candidates measured up to the standard of training in Nigeria.
Adewole represented by the Permanent Secretary of the ministry, Mr Clement Uwaifo, attributed the poor performance of the candidates to poor standard of foreign institutions they were trained.
He, however, urged parents to be mindful of the kind of institutions they send their children or wards for medical training, adding that majority of those institutions were not listed in the world directory of medical training.

Almost all the doctors that schooled in Ukraine fail this exam yearly.ukraine is just a dumping site for Dullard with rich parents.they shouldn't come n kill patients for us abeg
DeleteMost eastern Europe don't fail their foreign students when they fail.all they want is for you to study n pay ur school fees.whether they in still knowledge into u or not they don't care.uk does the same.ukraine,Poland,Hungary,UK,Romania..all these countries want are ur money and they keep promoting this foreign students whether they pass or not cos they don't want extra year so u wouldn't exceed ur study stay.they want u to leave their country asap.yes I studied in Ukraine too.

ReplyDeleteMr Uwaifo should not attribute their failure to poor facilities.. When a child is academically not sound, let's say it n not trying to put it other way round.
U mean the 447 that failed attended the same institution? If No then am pretty sure out of the 240+ that were successful, some attended the same institution with this big heads that failed

They should look on d positive side. Atleast they found out that they need extra training before they kill people later.

DeleteApparently most of these Eastern European graduates (from Hungary, Ukraine, Poland, etc) know absolutely nothing. The standard of education there is abysmal and worse still, as they are foreigners, there's really no incentive to teach them properly since they won't be practicing in the country. Cash and carry medical degree.
ReplyDeleteLol. How ignorant can you be? Eastern Europe has an excellent medical system. Even the Ukraine everybody keeps insulting if you know the achievements some of these students have? Most of them end up in America and Canada and Australia and Ireland earning serious money and making Nigeria proud. Failure of exam doesn’t mean they are dull, or are you trying to say it’s yhise from America who passed? Nerves, tension, not studying hard enough are to blame. After all they all learnt the same remedial course before writing the exam.

ReplyDeletei Was just saying yesterday that Ghana Mdc was being unfair ( a lot of foreign trained fail too and they do not have a structured remedial course in place ) and I was there boasting that more pass the Mdc exam alas!! The failure is across board. I don’t think the schools are bad I think it’s more of the students not being prepared for medicine in the tropics ,

I've met a lot of those foreign trained Drs and generally haven't been impressed.Am presently trying to prep about 2 of those affected by the posts for their 'resit' exams. Won't say much about the standards of the schools, but truth is, their training is 'Soft'.... Discussing with any of them and you realise they lack knowledge of basic principles...things a Yr4/5 medical student here will clean the floor with.
ReplyDeleteThey aren't actually bad, they're just not prepared for a system where actual Knowledge of the subject matter is important and where hands on experience matters.
P.S... those calling Nigerian medicine obsolete makes me laugh. No doubt,there are problems with health care delivery But what is done, is actually according to Best practices standard...do Drs always adhere to it is discussion for another day but it is the standard.
Nigerian Drs are 'pound4pound' as good as you can get...with some exceptions

DeleteDifferent countries , different approach to syllabus and different emphasis on what is considered knowledge. In all, Nigeria grads cant compete with their counterparts in the western world, when it comes to delivery of care. A situation where all increase in temperature is malaria, all body pain is malaria. Most doctors in Nigeria are trained into thinking all sickness is malaria. Same with foreign trained doctors trained towards diagnosing most ailments as any known epidemy in that region. Cramming to pass exam and actual on your feet diagnostic skills in real life situation is very different
Nigerian medical schools are more rigorous and dont joke with performances. And dat madam saying nigeria practices obsolete medicine...is it not same medical textbooks that is bin used in training doctors all over the world? The difference is Nigeria is rigorous, u work hard for every single score. No one pampers u to pass.
