Dana Air Addresses Brouhaha Following Aircraft Door That Fell Off

The management of Dana Air on Wednesday said the door of its aircraft fell off because a passenger attempted to open it.

A statement signed by Kingsley Ezenwa, Media and Communications Manager at Dana Air, said the incident could not have happened if no one tried to open the door. We wish to state categorically that this could never have happened without a conscious effort by a passenger to open it (exit door).

Mr. Ezenwa in his reaction Wednesday said by design, the emergency exit door of the airline’s aircraft are plug-type backed by pressure, which ordinary cannot fall off without tampering or conscious effort to open by a crew member or passenger.

We also wish to enlighten the author that, when an aircraft is airborne, it is fully pressurized and there was no way the seat or door could have been ‘shaking’ as insinuated,” the statement explained. It said further that a thorough inspection was however carried out on the said aircraft upon landing in Abuja, by the airline’s engineers and a team from the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA), and no issue was reported. There was also no threat to safety at any point.

The flight was only delayed for 8 minutes as we needed to demonstrate to the regulators that the safety and comfort of our guests is at the centre of our operations. We wish to apologise to our guests for any inconvenience such report may have caused and for the slight delay on the return service to Lagos. The statement concluded that a thorough investigation of the concerned passenger was ongoing.

    1. Sue them abeg. No time. This is a shoddy PR release. Every single person on that flight should sue or at least let the courts carry out a TRANSPARENT investigative report ( if such a thing still exists)

    2. These guys are lying how can they even say such? Trying to justify their stupid mistake. Where the craft fill with children or a village adult who hadn't boarded an aircraft before, would want to try open the exist door forcefully while on board? What flimsy excuse..

See how empty the so-called aircraft looks. Who flies Dana these days?
well they have a connecting flight from Abj to Uyo.

Mr PR next time look for something reasonable to say with your concuted lies. We are adult not kids..

      Smh!

  2. Someone tampered with the door and the hostesses didn't see the person.
Dana airline well done o. It wasn't just one person that Complained about the issue.
Local flights in Nigeria need to step up,the fact that it's called a local flight doesn't mean the aircraft should be local and improperly serviced, tokunbo aircraft everywhere with one issue or the other

  4. Doo fell off because someone attempted to open it? Meaning that the door was just hanging there. Cos I don't see how an ordinary passenger would push a door inside aeroplane and it will open.

  10. Any one that flies definitely knows that sitting by the emergency exit has obligations on the passenger seated there in respect to emergency situations. The emergency exit doors in any passenger aircraft as a safety requirement is meant to "fall off" once opened to ease the fast evacuation of passengers.
It is not impossible in the circumstances that the door was tampered with by a passenger and as such investigations may be required to rule out that possibility.

    1. Anon. so the other passengers would calmly sit and watch as another passenger tampers with the emergency door right? or the flight attendants wont notice enough to do something?

  11. Can we all just say no to mediocrity? What kind of report is this? NCAA investigated and no issue was reported? Are we supposed to believe that a passenger or crew member attempted to open the door? They won’t even take responsibility? Our mumu don do abeg. Fly Dana at your own risk

  12. This one is stupidity at its peak Dana haba this lie doesn't make sense!

  13. This report is ridiculous. So they want us to believe that during disembarking, a passenger consciously opened the emergency exit door in the FULL view of other passengers and the air hostess and nobody raised the alarm? That exit door was faulty biko! Who still patronizes Dana? Once e pass Airpeace and Aero (for local flights) I no fly, I can't play with my live abeg.

  14. This emergency door must have been faulty. But it is designed to fall off when the door is opened.

  15. LOCAL AIRLINES ARE JUST PROBLEMATIC

  16. Unless the previous passengers that flew on the aircraft attempted to open it since the ones that noticed it deny doing so. Routine inspection would have sorted it out before passengers boarded, unless truly the door was faulty.
