Thyroid Awareness And Support Initiative ..

The Thyroid is found in the neck region...

HOW WELL DO YOU KNOW YOUR THYROID??

THE THYROID
The thyroid gland is an endocrine gland in your neck. It makes two hormones that are secreted into the blood: thyroxine (T4) and triiodothyronine (T3). These hormones are necessary for all the cells in your body to work normally. Any impairment causes the wrecks all the cells and systems of the body. The thyroid gland lies in the front of your neck in a position just below your Adam’s apple. Thyroid gland is responsible for body metabolism.

WHAT CAUSES THYROID DISORDER

There are many different causes of the different thyroid disorders. Most commonly the cause is due to autoimmune thyroid disease - a self-destructive process in which the body’s immune system attacks the thyroid cells as though they were foreign cells. In response the thyroid gland becomes underactive (hypothyroidism) or overactive (hyperthyroidism). You may find that other members of your family have thyroid problems or another autoimmune disorder.

  4. Stella thank you for bringing this here, it's very real, I suffer from one even without any bulge in the neck. It's also a major cause of infertility which a lot of people are not aware of. I just sent my sister for test when I saw how her eyes was bulging. It was the same symptoms I had. I took medicine for over two eyes before my eyes went back to normal. It's hormonal imbalance in both male and female. People needs to be enlightened oh.

  5. I had hyperthyroidism-Graves disease for several years until I had thyroidectomy in 2005. The growth wasn't visible because it grew inwards and affected other organs. Symptoms were charcoal black, complexion, bulging eyeballs, palpitations, tremors etc. Thank God the growth was benign and not malignant, otherwise, that would have been another sad tale. All thanks to God, I am now euthyroid but still mindful of my lifestyle and salt intake and do routine thyroid function test

    1. I advise that you heed your doctor's advise for thyroidectomy, most importantly to remove that reproach called goiter while you maintain your treatment and good dieting lifestyle that will help you live well. You have hypothyroidism -underactive thyroid
