Mama Tee Series -Sponge Bath

Bathing with sponge is bad?

So there are some people who don't bath with sponge at all? hian!

A cousin came to Lagos for an interview last week and stayed two days in my house.

The night she arrived, when she wanted to use the bathroom, I asked if she came with all her toiletries and she said yes, she had her toothbrush, soap and cream. So I had bought a new sponge from the provision store in front of my house earlier and then I picked a clean towel from my closet and handed them to her.

My dearest cousin told me she doesn't use sponge. I told her if she didn't like it, I would go get her a small towel from the store. She told me she doesn't use anything on her body asides soap and water.

Hian! When did she start that this?

I remember when we were young, we even shared the same sponge. You know that 'kain' sponge that they get from sack, that rice sack, that is the one I'm talking about. Hahahahaha

'What are the dangers?' I asked.

She told me sponge makes the skin to age fast and that if I have to use anything, I should use a small soft towel or the soft sponge that they use for new borns.

Poor me that can't do without sponge, I mean confirm sponge not towel oh. I use sponge at least four times in a week mostly at night. It would feel as if my body is not clean if I don't use sponge for two days straight.

I will still be using my sponge oh, to each his own abeg.

Who else is with me on this?

Mama Tee.

*I am all for sponge everyday but the baby type...

    1. I use sponge everyday. I can't bathe without using it. I use it to scrub my virginal too, if I don't scrub it and I use my finger to rub the corner, if I smell the finger it will be smelling that virginal smell. But if I scrub it it will not smell. And I also scrub my anus with it.

    1. That's me, my body itches me when I use sponge, so I've stopped using it for close to 20years now.

  3. I have also stopped using sponge but mine is for medical reasons. Me that loves to scrub. Cos I even scrub my body twice while bathing with hard sponge. And bath twice daily.
I have had this condition now, which my body just scratches me anyhow. With no marks on my body whatsoever. Especially after bathing. It was so serious i had to go to dermatologist. Who put me on piriton and other drugs and told me to stop using sponge. Now i use a small face towel and just use it for crucial spots, but mostly use water and soap.
The condition is better. But it is still there and I am tired.
Bvs who as also experienced this. I can't even wear certain fabrics again. Because even some clothes itch my body. Even when i am hot or under sun it itches. Thank God I am mostly under AC at work and at home. I am tired. I need a lasting solution.

    1. #Anon12:41,what you're suffering from is called aquagenic pruritis. I also had it before, I went to different dermatologists and I was given different drugs still no changes,I had to research about it myself. You can Google it up.
But some of the ways to prevent or reduce recurrence is to always ensure you take your bath with warm water. Stop bathing with cold water. Secondly, make sure you don't stay too long inside the bathroom. The lesser the time spent ,the lesser the risk itching attack. Once you come out of the bathroom, clean your body immediately and apply soothing organic oil(I use coconut oil, olive oil or Shea butter)before you apply your body cream.
Lastly, avoid body cream and soap with mercury and any other bleaching agent. Use mild toilet soap like, dove, nivea, cusson baby soap,Irish spring, dudu OSU etc.
God so good that's how I've bn able to manage my own. Even though I still have the itching episode but its now once in a blue moon. Unlike before that I will dance makosa for at least 30mins after taking my bath.

Even oyinbo people wey no dey like to baff dey age very rapidly so what’s her point? I can imagine the accumulation of dirt and dead skin on that your cousin’s body and I bet it’s slimy to touch. Tufiakwa! I scrub my body every faccking day with a sponge and also when I take a bath in the night. Using soap and water only doesn’t feel like a bath to me, infact that one no be baff. Na higher level of rub and shine or ordinary shower biko.

    2. Your vagina smells because you scrub it with soap and sponge. Stop doing it for like a month and see.. you can wash the pubic region but not inside the vagina.

I don't scrub my vagina with soap and sponge and it doesn't smell.

So someone told me that I shouldn't use sponge on my face to avoid break outs...during that time. I don't know if her theory is scientifically true...but it's working oh.

I wash my face with soap and water... then cleanse with Neutrogena cleanser.

I don't have break outs again. Even one. 😍😍😍

    1. Is neutrogena a good cleanser? I have been using Palmers skin success medicated acne toner but it's not working. I still have pimples.

      Delete
    2. Yes the theory is right
Sponge is not good for the face, our facial skin is delicate. Foaming facial wash /cleanser or mild soap like pears transparent soap are best for the face

      Delete
    3. Yeah @Anon. The brand is good. They are also very good on acne prone face. It is less alcoholic than most acne cleansers. It doesn't even sting unless you have an open cut acne.

I react terribly to cleansers...but with Neutrogena, I have not seen any negative reaction.

There are many types in the market oh...but Buy any original one you like the ingredients and you will testify.

Neutrogena and company, come and pay me for this PR work oh.😍

    4. Please stop using dat Palmers cleanser it gave me very big big pimples too n I dint use it up to one week o. Had to discard it n d pimples started drying up immediately.

    5. Anon 15:30. Are you for real? Maybe you bought fake oh. Or it had to do with your skin. When I wanted to change my cleanser, I was debating between Palmers and the Neutrogena.

Thank God I didn't enter another one chance, like I did with KUDI cleanser. 😍

    6. Thanks everyone
I will stop using it and go buy neutrogena

    1. Na lie jare. No be only essential oil. I use sponge everyday and my skin is so fresh and it glows even in this Harmattan. It depends on the food you eat and what you 'rub' on it after bathing.
I mixed honey, coconut oil and vitamin E oil to my body cream.

      Delete
    2. What kind of vitamin E oil please? I mixed honey with my soap. I can't dare with my lotion though, make fly no dey follow me. I too fear Lagos fly and mosquito

      Delete
    3. Go to a pharmacy and tell them you want to buy vitamin E oil. It's between 400-500 per satchet. Buy two satchets depending on the qty of your cream. Burst the capsules with a needle and empty the oil into your cream. You can add honey in your cream, not much though, like 2 tablespoons. No fly will follow you. Honey will moisturise your skin.

  23. I have heard that theory but I refused to adhere to it.
