30-year-old woman, Salima Lawal who was arrested for attempting to sell her 32-day-old twin for N350, 000 has been sentenced to 10 months in jail
Lawal was arrested by the men of the Katsina state police command in December last year for allegedly attempting to sell her two month twin baby girls.
According to dailypost,A Katsina State Senior Magistrates’ Court sentenced Lawal to 10 months in jail.
The court, however, gave the convict, a resident of Marabar-Kankara, Malumfashi Local Government Area of the state an option of N10,000 fine.
The presiding magistrate, Nuradeen El-Laden, in his judgment on Wednesday evening explained that he gave Lawal a light sentence in view of the health of the twins and that of the mother herself.
He pointed out that a woman attempting to sell her children might have been battling abject poverty.
El-Laden noted that the convict and her babies had spent a number of days in prison custody, adding that Lawal had shown remorse for her action.
Double wahala for her. Too bad.

ReplyDeleteIs not better to sell the kids than dump them in the bush/roadside????
why will she be jailed. is it not better for her to sell them and use the money to train others. Than for all of them to die of hunger
ReplyDeleteExactly. They are not supposed to jail her instead what she needs is rehabilitation, counselling and some help. This is obviously abject poverty. Smthing tells me she just needs help.
DeleteIf they can train her and give her money to start a biz inorder to feed her kids. She won't be in this predicament.
Yes selling your kids is wrong. But smthn tells me this is a case of poverty.
