Knowledge of one’s own demise is generally not a good thing. Either you’ll stress out over it needlessly or you’ll think it makes you unkillable and behave recklessly.
ReplyDeleteIf this were a curse type situation (because I’d consider this a curse) I would go with “how”. I could learn to live with the knowledge of how even if it was something commonplace like a traffic accident or falling down the stairs. I imagine I might do those things more carefully, but I’d be able to get over the stress of that knowledge.
If I knew when I was going to die it would be much harder to resist the urge to try and take advantage of that. After all, if I know I’m going to die in 2075 I don’t have to worry about being careful, do I? Wrong, just because you’re going to die on that date doesn’t mean you can’t be catastrophically injured. Heck, maybe I die at that time because of spending 50 years in a coma. It could be anything, but it might be hard to resist that temptation.
