Vice President Yemi Osinbajo on Monday while speaking to Journalists revealed how much he and the President take home......
He spoke n Abuja during an end-of-year seminar of the State House Press Corps with the theme: ‘Journalists and Retirement Plans’.
The Vice President said that although remunerations were generally poor in the country, including his own and that of the President, the case of journalists was unique because many media owners are making the revenues but simply refuse to pay journalists better when due.
He noted that while he earns about N1.5m as Vice-President, President Muhammadu Buhari earns about N1.75 million, which was not commensurate with the offices they occupy. The Vice President recalled his brief encounters working with media houses as legal adviser, and how in all the months he worked, he was NOT paid despite the irregular hours he put in.
Giving other reasons for the fate of Nigerian journalists, Osinbajo noted that the private sector, which hosts many media organisations, does not adhere to the country’s minimum wage, which is currently N18,000 per month.

ReplyDeleteI don't believe the vice president, the chief of army staff earns N1.5million, so how can he earn same as the VP.

DeleteAlloy, so in your mind you decide to equate the chief of army staff salary with the vice president and president pay. They chief of army staff is a military man which is a professional career and a General which is the peak of his career that gives him the opportunity to occupy the office of chief of army staff which is political. So how much do you think the vice president who is first a lawyer and a SAN earns? Or maybe you should ask how much a SAN earns?
DeleteOga VP, that na still too much money o,lol! Reminds me of the print media jog-hunt I embarked on last month. The Sun editor was impressed and interested in meeting the young man ''who has a passion for writing''. Sadly, there was ''no vacancy at the moment'' and we agreed for me to check back next year. I don't/won't mind the ''irregular hours'' but I do mind the lack of payment. A labourer is deserving of his wages, biko.

ReplyDeleteIf it doesn't commensurate, he should use it to sow Santa seed in my life, I'll really appreciate it a lot! Especially in this economic situation...

They don't even buy fuel for their car, they don't pay dstv bills , either do they pay their domestic staff or even buy simple soap themselves. It is all supplied.
