Charity Orji, 54, was returning home from a wedding reception in northeast Dallas at about 11:30 p.m. Saturday, when she and another man were suddenly cut down by an unidentified vehicle, KDFW reported.
“It’s just painful knowing that someone can do something like this and not stop and keep going,” Jeanne Martin, Orji’s sister-in-law, told the station. “A truck comes from out of nowhere … from out of nowhere this vehicle comes and just knocks them down [and] keeps going.”
A witness told police that a vehicle traveling eastbound hit Orji and a 63-year-old man as they walked on Forest Lane near Plano Road. Orji was pronounced dead at the scene and the unidentified man was hospitalized with serious injuries, the Dallas Morning News reports. Orji’s 18-year-old daughter, who was also walking with the group, was not injured.
Orji had moved to the area with her husband from Nigeria.
Anyone with information about the deadly hit-and-run is asked to call Dallas police at (214) 671-4268.
