Tee went missing yesterday.
We had gone to visit a church member who just gave birth two streets from my street, the sitting room was crowded so kids were all moved to a separate room. I spent less than 20mins with the new mum then made to go, entered the room where they kept kids, Tee was no where to be found. That was how all the women in the house including visitors came out to search for Tee.
It all seemed like a dream, minutes turned into hours, darkness came, virtually all mothers in the neighbourhood who were around came out, young guys were not left out in the search, we combed all adjoining streets, calling her name as we went from house to house.
We had checked my house several times in case she had gone home.
I turned into an emergency prayer warrior. Confessing my sins, asking for forgiveness and pleading for her to be found in one piece. I remembered all the missing child posts I had read on this blog and else where, how some were never found, how some were found dead, I cringed at the thought.
I had cried so much that I could hardly see well, I regretted leaving my home that evening, I regretted allowing her to be taken to that room, I regretted ever hitting her, I regretted so many things. I couldn't imagine life without her, I had gotten so used to her in the four years of her existence that it seemed like we've been together since I was born, sacrificed so much for her too.
The women consoled me assuring me that she would be found in one piece that night.
Then around 10pm or thereabout, a woman called me that I should come and pick my daughter in her house. She was found wandering on their street crying.
When they asked if she knew my phone number, she answered yes and called the digits for them, that was how they could reach me that night. My joy knew no bounds.
Tee, who apparently did not remember I was still in the house had gone out of the room unnoticed and out of the house searching for me. She later told me she was 'looking for me'.
After we found her, the women started narrating their own experiences one after the other. Almost all of them had experienced this before. One said two of her kids went missing for four days when they attended a church function. Another said her grown up son went missing for a month, he was found in another town, and many more like that. I noticed that 80% of those who shared had experienced it more than once.
It was my first time experience and I don't pray to experience it ever again.
Are there parents here whose kids were lost and found? What was the experience like?
Mama Tee
*Na wah..I have experienced this briefly for like two hours and i know that feeling....Happy you found her!
Thank God for you. Too many things will be on someone's mind when a child goes missing. Thank God she was found in one piece.
ReplyDeletehmmmmmmm what an experience.
Thank God for your daughter ma
DeleteThanks everyone. May we not weep over our children.
DeleteMy legs still hurt from the excess trekking.
I pray for comfort to those who lose their children.
Thank God for safety.
ReplyDeleteI definitely know that feeling but mine happened indoors o! My eldest was two years then (damn the terrible twos), she was playing hide and sick with her cousins and decided the best place to hide was to zip herself up in a ghana-must-go bag...we screamed and screamed Onome...I nearly passed out! For my mind I say, 'I never ready to comot for your papa house o'. Next thing we heard someone giggling, followed the sound only to find her under the staircase in the partially zipped bag! She just screamed 'found you' I nearly tear her hot slap!🤣
ReplyDeleteI didn't like that feeling at aaaalllll
Lol...kids will always be kids.
DeleteLmao at her "Found you"...I don't even wat to imagine the mixes emotions you were going through when looking for her.
DeleteMother's are trying abeg 😁😁😁

DeleteOne of my neighbour's child went missing when I was in school. Till I graduated they couldn't find him, a boy of 17. It was so pathetic as he was the only son. His mum was already in menopause.
ReplyDeleteWell done Mama tee. You are such a good writer.
Thanks Mena
DeleteSorry about the boy
DeleteWow I'm so happy for you mama tee. I pray never to experience this.
ReplyDeleteAmen. Someone with HBP will just have heart attack. Very bad experience
DeleteWow I'm so happy for you mama tee. I pray never to experience this.
ReplyDeleteOh my God!
ReplyDeleteThank God it ended in praise🙏🏽
Chai!
You will never know this feeling till you experience it.
Many years ago.i just bent down to check on my sleeping 4 months daughter and to make sure she was comfy. It wasn't up to 10 seconds😩 And when I raised my head my then 3 year old has vanished!😩
I frantically looked around and didn't see her. panic set in. I immediately ran with my buggy to the shop entrance and reported that my baby wandered off and they should pls do something.
God bless that man!
He immediately swung into action!
Sealed off the entrance and the exit.
As a missing child announcement was going off.
In that 4 or 5 mins,I saw my life replay before me! I was almost having a heart attack! What do I do! What do I tell her father. He had just left us some 10 mins earlier to check some stuff in the shops in the Mall while I did my own shopping. Who had her! Who took her? All the missing child stories started replaying in my mind's eye and I started rejecting them....
I juts knelt and cried "God pls bring my baby safely back to me.....🙏🏽🙏🏽🙏🏽😩😩😩😩
And like a movie.as I stood up to run off in her another direction,I saw her!💃🏼💃🏼💃🏼💃🏼💃🏼
I saw her!🙏🏽🙏🏽🙏🏽🙏🏽🙏🏽
It was a toy shop and she had wandered off.
Kai! I knelt and kisses her ehn. See tears😂
I told her I loved her and that I would die if anything happened to her.
All through the commotion, the General wasn't back and after everything the koko was how to tell him I nearly lost our daughter.
It's Bn more than 6 years now and I still thank God when I remember. I got me a "child leash" as soon as I stepped out of that Toy shop,in that very same Mall.
The General would later tell me I seemed more relaxed, thankful and more gracious, not blowing up his money and generally so mature on that particular vacation😂😂😂
If only Oga knew😂
I didn't tell him what went down till much much later.
We thank God Mama Tee o!
Ah! Memories! See my heart doing gbim all over again😩
Lols
DeleteTGW, I won't even tell any of her dad's relatives or mine so they won't mistakenly mention it in his presence. He must not hear about it. Chai!
Happy for you mama tee.
ReplyDeleteI pray never to experience such. May God Continue to protect us.
Every parent nightmare. I have never experienced it, you must’ve been devastated. You child is smart to have known you phone digits. Thank God, she was found.
ReplyDeleteThanks dear. To think it's only recently that she learned the digits of my phone number. I urge all parents to teach their kids their phone digits. I see some 3yr olds call out their parents phone digits.
DeleteThank God she was found and smart to know your number... I remember when we searched for my cousin then in the village when we went for xmas... It was so scary
ReplyDeleteVery scary my dear
DeleteI have experienced it from My neighbour's child, dis boy dey loss once in a week, and when he's found his father won't beat or caution him. One day I called the man to install car tracker on the boy, to avoid putting we the neighbours in unnecessary stress, na so the man turn my enemy until today.. *Handsome Beast*
ReplyDeleteLols @car tracker
DeleteMy son once got missing in camp. it was easter retreat and we all went to my church camp outskirt of town even though we lodged in a hotel. I went to drop him at the children's camp and was constantly checking on him oh, next thing i went after 20mins and he was no where around. I though i would die that day, and worse part was that i was pregnant. I asked my husbands cousin who was with him and she said she just turned around and didnt see him cos she was helping the organizers coordinate. I cried, i wailed, i prayed, i cabashed. All the workers and pastors wives turned to prayer warriors. After like 4hrs this little boy just ran across from the opposite direction of the road shining his small small teeth. I stood in shock looking at him. He just ran to me and hugged my leg and said mummy i want water. All the people searching for him with me started laughing but God knows i didnt find it funny. If not for the women begging me i would have blascattered his mouth. Apparently he ran across to play ball. I've told him, he had better play professional foot ball, cos this boy don do me many things cos of ball.
ReplyDeleteLols. You won't even be able to beat him or her. If you did, you would injure him/her. I was just staring at mine when I found her.
DeleteWhat a story!
ReplyDeleteI was visualising the whole story as I read. May God bless our mothers. Thank God she was found.
Amen
Delete@Meena that was a sad incident.
ReplyDeleteI think parents should be more careful on their children more than anything else!
ReplyDeleteI have tell my wife this every day.
Ember month is here!
You are right Sexy daddy
DeleteThings happen man.... I tell you they do. Beinf careful is just one side of the coin. Children can be sooo 🙄
DeleteI remember the story my dad told me of when I went missing. I was 4 and someone have birth in the compound opp ours so I went to carry baby, meanwhile everybody at home was looking for me.
ReplyDeletePopsy said mum was already crying her eyes out and he has told everybody that if they know who carried his child, they should bring me and collect all his properties....
Me I didn't know all this was happening until night when I was tired of carrying baby and went home. I can't even remember if i chop beating that day sha.
Lols @carrying baby
DeleteIt is very heartbreaking for a loved one to go missing.
ReplyDeleteWhen I was young, one of our neighbour's daughter went missing. She was not found. After 12yrs of leaving the area, I saw her brother and inquired if they found her, the answer was still No.
Her case was very sad. She had fell from the two storey building where they lived at the age of 5yrs, the fall affected part of her brain. She had mental issues and needed help with so many things, pus was coming out of her ears. #tears# Their mum was a single mum, she carried her from one hospital to another, herbal medicines etc, yet no improvement, we heard she can be operated on outside the country and she will be ok. Later, one doctor helped her to get the attention of an NGO which volunteered to help her get treatment outside the country. Donations came in, The week she was to travel, she went missing. They searched for her, announced in the radio and television, they could not find her. We neighbours all cried and cried. My mum used to cry when she remembers her. She felt for the mum after all her suffering. She was 9yrs old when she went missing, a very beautiful girl. It was a very sad time in the neighbourhood.
May God protect our children.
WTH!!!This one is the handwork of wicked people(spiritual things)
DeleteThis broke my heart.... Very spiritual i tell u
DeleteI cried reading and I'm still crying. Oh My God...Jesus. I'm a single mum with an Autistic child. I must say we get the support we need cos we reside in UK. Whilst shoppings one darn day, my baby let go of me for a minute and that was it. I screamed myself hoarse. I couldn't bring myself to speak coherently to describe him. No words can describe the love we share. I know I can't live without him. I actually miss him when he's only in school. Lost count of the nos of times I ve gone early for him from school. Sorry I'm trying to describe how much I love him. His words are coming along very cutely too.
DeleteBack to gist- this man taps me says: is this him? Poor boy frooze still with my voice screaming his name every 3 secs as he was going a different direction. All happened in 6 minutes but felt like 6 hours
OMG
DeleteThis is soooo sad
May God console the mum
Oh no.... 😢😢
DeleteOMG
ReplyDeleteIf it was me (God forbid), I would have fainted and only wake up when I hear my son's voice. He is all I have, he is my only friend and relative. Thank God for you mama tee.
Lols
DeleteI see some sad stories. It is well with those that lost their kids till today.
ReplyDeleteLady Port this your story is all about wickedness of man. They saw her glory and dealt with her. Wicked people everywhere. The foundation of that family is really faulty.
ReplyDeleteMy mum always tells me the story of how I got missing in the hospital when She went to give birth to my brother. She cried and didn't mind all the pains of coming out from labour room in less than 20 minutes, she ran everywhere in the hospital in search of me.
ReplyDeleteUntil She went into the delivery room to search and there I was watching another woman pushing her baby, I wonder what I thought was going on then...whenever I remember this story it brings tears to my eyes. Mummy I love you, love you.
Oh dear
DeleteGod bless her
I remember a course mate of my got missing in 200level that was 2012, they looked for her everywhere at a point different stories started coming up both lies and truth some said she was pregnant and went to abort some said she went for runs all sort of stories, then her family decided to arrest all her friends come and see people denying her upon all she was not found.... but maybe they will see her tomorrow I can't say but has of today they still haven't found her.
ReplyDeleteSuch a pity. At that age?
DeleteMay such evil be far from us all. May God console her parents
I prayers never to be in this situation because I wouldn't know how to handle it. I'm not made for this stuff. I can't even search for for a minute. Thank God she knew your number. What would have happened if she didn't?? Wawuuu.
ReplyDeleteThank God for you and her.
Lols Fabie, may it be far from us. They would have probably taken her to the police station or to the CDA chairman who would have directed for it to be announced round the area.
DeleteThis is one of the worst feelings ever. My sister and her daughter came to visit me in England. We were at the mall, this girl was right beside us she was like 5 then. Next thing we could not find her, her saw the worry on my sister's face immediately. When she wandered back I shouted at her so much the white people were giving me side eye. I no send them, I was expecting one of them to come and caution me and for me to insult them well but they just gave the disapproving look and moved on. Another incident, we were all at home, my baby nephew about 18 months was sleeping in the room. All of a sudden he wasn't there, we searched the whole house, searched the compound. I was scared because his mum left him in my care so many thoughts crossed my mind only for my brother to find him at the generator house starring at the generator. I just hugged him thought. Have him food then a warm bath. He's 11 now and I've not still told my sister.
ReplyDeleteLols. Thank God they were both found. The feeling is not a nice one and such things could divide the family. God forbid.
DeleteMy 2 year old daughter and i were walking along the road. She was just playing around, lagging behind. I bent down to adjust my shoe. When I looked up my daughter was nowherer to be found. I looked behind me, beside,in front. We were the only ones on the path that has big houses with hugefences. My heart lurched, I developed headache and felt my bowels wasgiving way, my legs buckling. It was like she disappeared. (All within a few seconds). My mind was running riot with different thoughts. Only for the naughty girl to sneak out of a space between the fences that had a small gate smiling. All my symptoms disappeared immediately. I pray never to experience such again. My heart goes out to parents of missing children.
ReplyDeleteHmmm thank a god for you, I can imagine you must hve died and resurrected many tines while the search was on. It’s fantastic that she knows your number , we drill ours in to my Son too.
ReplyDeleteNever lost a child before but I remember an incident when my Son was about 2 we were at the MMA i actually use those back pack with leash for him but naija ppl kept saying why I should let him etc. Fast forward to that checking of suitcases place one of those ladies said she would watch him my brethren I just bent to open suitcase, fiam!! The boy took off like I could not even see him!! in that busy MMA departure and with those open doors I left my suitcase open my bag on the floor my fear was that he would run out of the building those minutes were so scary.
Hmmmm sad
