Briefing journalists after the meeting, Usman Dutse, ASUP national president, said the industrial action follows the failure of the federal government to implement its agreements with the union reached since 2016.
He said considering the “sufficient time” given to government to implement all agreements, they had no choice than to embark on the industrial action. He listed some of their demands to include non-implementation of the NEEDS Assessment report, shortfalls in personnel releases and withdrawal of allowances and non-passage of the amended bill of the Polytechnic Act.
Others are infractions in the appointment of rectors, as well as improving the conditions of state-owned institutions, among other issues.
The union had on November 7 issued a notice on the strike.
