This incident comes barely six months after a medical doctor identified as Allwell Orji jumped to his death from the third mainland bridge into the lagoon.
Family speaks
A family member of the man that jumped into a lagoon in Lekki Lagos has reacted to the incident.
The source told The Nation that the man left his Ondo State residence three days ago to attend a church programme at the Redemption Camp. He said the family was yet to establish the reason behind the act and declined further comments.
The man, Adekunle Oluseyi, reportedly took off his clothes, phone, wristwatch, wallet, band and shoes before jumping into the water at about 10am.
LCCI officials, on getting the information, checked their Close Circuit Television (CCTV) footage and realised it was true, before alerting emergency workers.
Oluseyi’s wallet contained two Automated Teller Machine (ATM) cards and there was no cash inside. As at press time, officials of the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA) and the Lagos Waterways Authority (LASWA) were yet to find Oluseyi. General Manager LASEMA, Adesina Tiamiyu said search and rescue was ongoing. And It cannot be ascertained whether he is dead or alive. All one can say now is that he is missing. It is confirmed that the man jumped into the lagoon.
LASWA, LASEMA and Marine Police have been searching for him since the distress call from LCCI. From the CCTV footage, he suddenly pulled off his clothes and shoe. He looked to be sure there was no one around him and jumped into the lagoon.
Efforts are being made to find him alive or recover the body. His family has been contacted and all items found on him have been handed over to the police.
*Who checked his ATM?????
Nobody checked hs atm Stella, there was no cash inside his wallet am guessing. Sad
ReplyDeleteWhy do I feel it not ordinary, scary.
DeleteThey said there was no cash in the wallet not the atm.you have to read twice to understand that line.
DeleteSo it happened 10 am and passers-by dodnt notice. That's quite unfortunate.
They meant that there was no cash inside his wallet.
ReplyDeleteMay be they meant no cash inside the wallet.
ReplyDeleteNa wa oooo
A man who hears the word of God is also depressed nd committed suicide. This is the reality of life.... hmm

Suicide will keep on rising if family ties are not strengthened.
ReplyDeleteLord have mercy.
ReplyDeleteReading this the first thing that came to mind was; hope he didn't just find his health status challenged? As in disease? Well, he alone and God knows right now. It's well with his family and I pray he's found.
ReplyDeleteMay God help us.
ReplyDelete"After a four-hour search without recovery of the body, the officials had to call off the joint operation"
ReplyDeleteU called off the search operation just after 4hrs???? Only in Nigeria
Stress of life isn't easy o, Nigerians are believed to be strong and resilient so no body takes you serious when you talk about depression or suicide. Not everyone is that strong to face suffering.
ReplyDeleteSigh, my story now. Imagine spending 5yrs in school after they don borrow train you but when it was time for clearance you are told there was an error in your 100level clearance, and your o level result don't meet the requirement for the course? So you can't graduate as you aren't qualified to study the course. Na there I die wake up.
At that point I was already thinking suicide, na family keep me strong.
I have started afresh but honestly I still think of just putting an end to the suffering, cause now it's 2 times harder with limited finances. Abi na my mama wey I suppose to dey give money now I go dey collect from.
Depression is real
Why don't you get a lawyer and sue the school? That was their error not yours. If they don't want to graduate you they must give you compensation for all the money spent. Then you can go to a private school or abroad after suing them for plenty money.
DeleteMy dear get a lawyer to help you. This is so wrong on all levels..
DeleteIt is the school authorities mistake why should you have to suffer.
Why didn't they tell you when you were in year 1. They had to wait till final year.
I feel for you. It is well
#Confront your anxieties to let them go*
ReplyDeleteIt is worrisome how Nigerians are increasingly taken to suicide as a last option. The economy is not working for the poor, it is only working for the rich. Only God can save the country!
ReplyDeleteSuicide is never an option. rest in peace to him, I bet he never thought about how broken his loved ones will be. I just pray people learn to spread love always, lots of people you see well dressed and smiling are actually unhappy and depressed.
ReplyDeleteHow can it be suicide, when he saved his phone, wristwatch, clothes and Atm.he plans to still use them.so it definitely isn't suicide.if it was, he would have jumped with everything he had on him
ReplyDeleteAbi o. It was a hot day in Lagos, guy had been strolling from redeemed camp and amwas sweaty and tired, didn't bother with third mainland bridge but chose the cool inviting waters of ikoyi-lekki link bridge to dive in and enjoy a leisurely swim. Oh wait, he's been swimming for over 24 hours now o, oh well, maybe he's having the time of his life!
DeleteStella,a young lady dropped a comment on this suicide case online yesterday on how she has attempted it twice, I reached out to her and met with her in my office today. Stella this girl is broken, completely broken.I struggled to hold down my tears while she was with me.She has even started writing her story. That girl needs serious help, it is not even only about money. She needs a psychologist or someone who can put her life back on track. You see people walk around but some struggles are heart wrenching. Wish I can get someone to join with me to bring her out of her present state. The surprising thing is that we have a whole lot of comfortable people in this country but they are not ready to help, they keep accumulating wealth as if they'll live on earth forever. They forget so easily that can leave this earth at anytime. Please as much as possible let us all try to extend a little hand of help to that person in need.May God help us all.
ReplyDeleteAnne
Depression is real...may his soul rest In Peace.
ReplyDeleteHe came for church progammmes without money. Ok ooo
ReplyDeleteWhere you there when he went to church??
DeleteDid you sit beside him monitoring what left his pocket?
Someone has lost his life and all your bean brain can think of this your Uber dumb statement above.
How have you existed so long with this abject level of (no) sense?
