Google just told me he didn't actually write it, but it was truly based on a novella he wrote. The writer was the the director too, that is the writer who adapted for screen from the book.

I've not read showshank redemption, I assume she thinks something that beautiful and genuine can't come out from his horror filled 'mind'. The guy can make your shadow look like the walking dead.
