One could be cos the husband is blind, so for the wife to have asked her blind hubby to check the time knowing fully well that he can't see, the hubby knows she is in danger.
Or
The husband knows the wife never cooks or go near the microwave, so her asking him to check the time shows she might be in grave danger.
