Joined in the suit are the Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice in the state, Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Matters, the eight high chiefs that were elevated to kings as well as the Baales that were conferred with kingship status.
He argued that Ajimobi did not possess the power and authority to confer anybody with the right to wear a beaded crown and coronet.
The Olubadan is also claiming that the crowning of the kings is illegal and void since the governor did not consult with the Oyo State Council of Obas and Chiefs. The Olubadan is seeking an order setting aside the Gazette number 14 and 15 of Volume 42 of August 23 and 24, 2017 made by the governor and which conferred the right to wear crown and coronet on the elevated high chiefs and Baales.
He said the governor’s action violated the provisions of the CAP 28 of the Chiefs Laws of the state.
The monarch, therefore, prayed the court to set aside the installation of the new kings.

So much tension in Ibadan over this ish. Ajimobi really over stepped his bounds. Let's see as this unfolds.
ReplyDeleteHe just undermined the Olubadan and Oyo Council of Obas

ReplyDeleteInterestingly, this even caused personal sentiments for some of us. My mother is from the royal family in line as the next olubadan so she is against the Governor's decision but my father's house was crowned king so my father is happy with the decision. By and large we the children have to listen to arguments for and against this decision. It's been interesting but I choose to opine that the Governor had no business dissolving a winning strategy.
The Ibadan kingship succession system has always been peaceful why interrupt the process, WHY NOT SPEND THE TIME ON PROBLEMATIC ISSUES IN IBADAN? GUESS THESE POLITICIANS ARE JUST A JOKE.
Why do politicians involve themselves in traditional rulers' affairs? Why? I don't really understand, turning all these into politics which isn't supposed to be so.
ReplyDeleteI thought there are rules&tradition involved.
