Catholic Priest Kidnapped And Murdered In Imo

The Police in Imo State have confirmed the kidnap and subsequent murder of a Catholic priest.

Reverend Father Cyriacus Onunkwo was allegedly snatched from his vehicle in Orlu town in Orlu Local Government Area on Friday morning by gunmen.

The Commissioner of Police in Imo State, Chris Ezike, told Channels TV that following a manhunt, a body was discovered in the bush Omuma Village in Oru East Local Government Area on Saturday.

The corpse has been identified as that of father Onunkwo, while investigations are still on to unveil his killers.

Police say the late cleric’s car was discovered intact, with nothing removed from it.

Also, his body did not bear any gunshot or stab wounds, leading to speculations that he may have been strangled.

No arrests have so far been made, but the police commissioner says that the police are still working to find the abductors of the priest.

  1. Imo again?!
The Catholic church in Imo state is indeed coming under persecution in recent time in that state.
The Papacy just might be moved to put activities of the church on hold in Imo state.

  2. This is so sad! I just hope he didn't stained his hands or indulged in illicit affairs.

I pray the perpetrators are found and dealt with.

The responsibility of any Priest or any man of God is to win souls to God, nothing else.

May he find peace in God's bosom.

    2. Bit anonymous she said she hopes. That can mean she hopes he goes to heaven. Why will you just assume Shea saying he dwarves his death. Nigerians only use an extremely minute part of thier brains that why they always jump to conclusions.

  12. From a Priest Friend: The Priest was a victim of kidnapping. A few hours before the priest was kidnapped, the same kidnappers failed to capture the younger brother of another priest who escaped being caught with bullet holes on his car. Fr. Cyracus was only in Nigeria from Rome to arrange for the burial of this father. This brazen attack on priests and killing of people inside the church is a sign of total disregard for what is sacred and the downward spiraling of what is godly in us as a people. May God not fold His hand and allow Satan take over.

  13. The priest is our father in our lady of the Rosary in Lagos ajegunle. Last Sunday at 6oclock mass the father was rushing to end the mass on time, for him to travel to the village for his father's burial. Not knowing that he will not come back. A very strong father chijioke. I heard the kidnappers has been apprehended. Not too sure. Those people will not go unpunished. Forgive my English.
