Nigeria Immigration Service Bans Cash Payments At Passport Offices‎

The Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) has banned cash payments for passport processing as part of its efforts to eliminate corruption at all passport offices nationwide.‎

NIS spokesperson Sunday James disclosed this in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) Today in Abuja.

He‎ said the Comptroller General of the NIS, Muhammad Babandede, directed that all payments for passport processing must be done online and through designated banks‎ henceforth.

All payments in respect to passport processing are to be done by applicants through banks to generate application ID and reference number on the NIS portal and not through an individual or touts,” Mr. James said.

Passport applicants are therefore strongly advised to visit the NIS website www.immigration.gov.ng to confirm the approved fees for all categories of Nigerian Passports and age groups before making payments,” he added.

He also urged Nigerians to direct any complaint or enquiries to 07080607900 and the email address nis.servicom@nigeriaimmigration.gov.ng

  4. I hope that works, immigration is as corrupt as hell. If it isn't cash payment, no one answers you. If this is true and it works that will be great because of the amount they insist that one should pay.

  8. Government is only angry that the immigration don't remit half of what they collect, this is just a move to get their share.. Nothing stops the illegal trade going on at the immigration offices. Nigeria embassies outside the country is the same thing.

Shame shame shame. Their website has never worked.

  9. Why don't they include that one can make a report on any staff who demands more than the required sum, that will equally help to Albet their corrupt practices if truly that is their aim.

  11. Story for the gods. It's also boldly stated on their website but I was given evil eyes yesterday when I went to the HQ to renew my passport cos I decided I wanted to follow due process and pay at the bank. They will treat you like you have committed the worst crime cos you aren't going to grease anyone's palm as you have already paid. And they'll make it very difficult for you to be attended to. I'm talking about just yesterday. These same people for some months a while back collected money for 64 pages from Nigerians even when they applied for 32 pages. They were told 32 pages wasn't available and never refunded the money people paid for the 32 pages and proceeded to ask them to pay for 64pages. Where is that done anywhere else? And nothing has been done to the NIS. So money for 32 pages passport gone, for something they never collected and they still paid fresh money and more for 64 pages passport that most of them don't need. This country though.
