Members of the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) were absent at a meeting called at the instance of the Federal Government over the lingering industrial action in universities, Which was scheduled to hold today,29th August 2017.
Sen. Chris Ngige, Minister of Labour and Employment had called for a meeting in Abuja with ASUU leaders, Minister of Education, among others on effort at revolving the lingering strike embarked by the union.
According to Ngige, “today we are supposed to have a formal meeting with the Minister of Education and other stakeholders in the government side and ASUU. But we had some new development, which made it mandatory, that we roll over this meeting to the next day.
“Because the government as you know on Aug. 18 gave ASUU an offer, through the Ministry of Education and yesterday when ASUU got back to us, which was late, the meeting has already been scheduled.
“ASUU had gotten back to government to say that they needed us to deliberate on their counter offer before we can have a formailised meeting,‘’ he said.
The minister said that with the new development, government acceded to it by calling for a meeting with stakeholders in the government side on their offer.

ReplyDeleteThis is very serious oh. Which way naija?
ReplyDeleteJust one semester to go. Abeg ASUU have pity.
ReplyDeleteBarracudianusaurusunamon - For that BV, ASUU strike is not coming off anytime soon, I advise whoever this concern to go use this time wisely, learning something good, possible a handwork. One's handiwork is what gets you by nowadays.
ReplyDeleteNigeria is failing institute-wise, quite unfortunately, disappointing, and saddening, I just wish soon enough, someone would hear the masses cry and do something about this, rather than embezzling and building their own private institutions abroad for their own selfish gains.
Q.E.D.
The truth is.. The people pretending to fight for the masses are mostly after what to gain from the situation... The government itself is a failure... An average Nigerian will always look up to God to solve their problem. Forgetting that you sometimesyou have to take action yourselves...
DeleteSo bad of this strike on this epoch of life
ReplyDeleteIt is well
ReplyDeleteHmm the govt just want fix meetings upon meetings, ASUU isn't ready for meetings they need money.
