The former Minister of Labour and Productivity, Usaini Akwanga, who was kidnapped by gunmen on Tuesday has been released.
The former minister was forcefully taken away from his farm in Kurmin Tagwaye Village, Nasarawa State.
The Commissioner of Police in the state, Abubakar Bello, however, confirmed the release.
However, it is an unfortunate incident, we on our part, the Nasarawa State Police Command will surely take action to ensure that the perpetrators of this dastardly act are brought to book. As we did in other areas, we will surely also commence operations around that Akwanga area with the aim of routing them from those places, that we assure the good people of Nasarawa State.
“In the process of investigations and search and rescue, we made some arrests about five persons were arrested and they are undergoing interrogation,” he said.
A family source also confirmed the news to Channels Television saying that a ransom was paid before his release, although the amount was not disclosed.
