Is this a good one?you May have to decide after reading!
Governor Okorocha gave the directive while handing over letters of recognition and staff of office to Nineteen (19) newly recognized traditional rulers in the State, adding that Igbo language must not be allowed to die as been predicted in some quarters.
The governor also told the traditional rulers in the State to be agents of peace, progress, and prosperity in their respective domain instead of being tools of disunity and destabilization, warning that any traditional ruler who could not show genuine leadership in his autonomous Community stands the risk of having his Certificate of Recognition and Staff of Office withdrawn.

Not bad.
ReplyDeleteHis motives seems genuine hence I see nothing wrong in his decision. We need to value and protect our cultures.
ReplyDeleteI know a couple wife is igbo and husband is Yoruba. Their kids can only speak English. Such a painful situation . So imagine such child trying to get a political seat in future how will be or she reach out to the grassroots.
That situation, the kids may have to learn one native language. Father preferable.
DeleteKids from this type of homes /marriage learn the mothers native tongue seeing shes always with them. Unless they mother can speak the father's native tongue.

DeleteFor once, this Okoroawusa has done something commendable. He should extend it to the House of Assembly.
ReplyDeleteIt makes a whole lot of sense. Keep the language alive. If anyone doesn't understand let them get an interpreter to translate whatever they say.
ReplyDeleteAnother dividend of democracy,
DeleteIs a good idea, other tribes don't speak English during their own function. I love the idea, we must promote igbo language.
ReplyDeleteMake sense.
ReplyDeleteNot a bad idea though
ReplyDeleteEnter your comment... I don't have anything against this but the truth is that Okorocha and his APC demons are just wiping up sentiments to blindfold nigerians. I'm sure you are all happy about this, but what about the real issues affecting your lifes and future?
ReplyDeleteLanguage, culture and traditions are part of what is negatively affected and if care is not taken, may go extinct.
DeleteIt is one of the major identities of a nation.
Whatever
ReplyDeleteMisplaced priorities
ReplyDeleteMakes sense. After all they are the custodians of culture.
ReplyDeleteAfrican leaders and the tyrannical/autocratic selves! Isn't English an official language in Nigeria? If you're interested in promoting a language/culture, why not ENCOURAGE them to speak the language NOT ban them from speaking English
ReplyDeleteGood idea.
