Picture this.......
EDD refers to Expected Delivery Date.....
When I was pregnant with my first Boyfriend,I got asked of my EDD everywhere i went and my mouth would murmur something inaudible until I noticed that my Sister in law who was also preggy even said hers before she was asked...I was asked one day why i was being selective with info on when their Nephew, grandson would arrive and I said ''In my Country we dont....''
My hubby interrupted and said ''Honey this is not Nigeria......'' and then he would tell anyone that asked..I was tired of the heated debate every time he told someone so i let him be...LOL.
You?
Not in support

DeleteAbeg o, it is not advisable here. If possible to keep pregnancy a secret sef it could have been better.
ReplyDeleteCall me old school, but don't think I am going to be sharing that information.Nigeria or not.Aside my mom(who would be with me,no matter where I am in this world) my only sister,my dad(he don't joke with deliveries. He gets into serious fasting and prayers) and my husband,no one else will know my due date.If I can hide the pregnancy,I will.
DeleteJanelle, u try sef. Me it is only myself and hubby biko. Who announcing epp?

ReplyDeleteThank u miss Ess, I don't even post recent pics on social media when I'm pregnant
DeleteWhenever I manage to attend any IMPORTANT celebrations I practically avoid pple taking full pictures of me to avoid them posting on internet for pple to see I'm pregnant
But after delivery, I start posting all pictures I secretly took while pregnant. Infact pple are usually surprised bcx they didn't see my bump
Shifts away from couch!
ReplyDeleteI can never announce my EDD, for what na
I won't even post recent pictures on social media. Well as a social media personality, I might post pictures, especially snapchat
But I won't announce my EDD
Lolo oniro oshi who sabi you?. Who give u award? Your attaché is too much you this dwarf. Stop this you b.s. and just be real for once in your life
DeleteThis is naija o. A country where pregnant women put safety pin in their cloth to scare away witches.
ReplyDeleteIf they can do that, my dear don't u dare ask them of their EDD o.
It's just like seeing someone that cane for pt test and will lie to you that she just came to do MP/widal for getting say na we go still type the result.
Everything in Nigeria is all about secrecy.
I'm not announcing jack!
ReplyDeleteIf u wanna beef me cos I no tell u my EDD, then be my guest!
Even abroad, students of hogwarts still dey active! Lol.
As for me o, I won't dare upload my baby bump let alone upload my EDD. I'm a SM person but I don't put my personal stuff, you can never know what's happening to me through my SM. But for those that does, I have no problem with that
ReplyDelete*Larry was here*
👍 u only get to see my bump after delivery.

It have to do with your believe
ReplyDeleteI noticed my Nigerian friends find it difficult to say their EDD, they'll quickly change the topic. In fact they do the same when asked the sex of the baby and if you give birth thru CS its an abomination to them....arggggg
ReplyDeleteHahaha same here. The more comments I read on this blog the more I am beginning to feel Out of place here. We are the most superstitious set of people I know
DeleteI don't know what is wrong in giving birth thru CS too
DeleteMy sister is the type that wont tell you her EDD or sex of the child but the whole world knows that she's giving birth through CS.
DeleteI don't see any big deal in showing bump or telling people my EDD and sex of my baby though. I will only mind the kind of people I tell.
Silence is always Golden.
ReplyDeletesometimes it is pale yellow
DeleteI don't see the need announcing your due date on social media!
ReplyDeleteWhen I was pregnant of my boy, these Caucasian people, especially my husband's family and friends were always asking me of my due date, I told them because they were people closed to us.
All my black friends knew my due date too, I didn't see anything wrong with telling them. But, going online to announced the sex of my baby or my due date is a NO, NO for me.
People are free to do or say whatever they like or deemed fit on social media, afterall, it's their social media handle.
My privacy is paramount than any social media validation.
My in-laws are d best u can ever ask for but I can NEVER tell them my due date. No, they won't even ask but I won't if eventually they ask .
DeleteNot that I feel they r evil or something, but they may unconsciously tell someone else n dt someone else will tell another someone else n d news will fly.
Oh, I remember now dt I actually told DH's immediate younger wen he asked during my 1st. But not d exact date
DeleteI told him d expected month. Bcx I was overdue n he was worried
Mrs R, caucasian friends ke? But you live in Naija now. You can fams sha
DeleteAnnouncing on social media is rubbish. I can tell anyone I'm comfortable with
DeleteLol @anon 17:43
DeleteAnon 17:43, bow your head in shame oo, Mrs R lives in Europe 😝😝😝
DeleteStella pls dont even compare, foreign countries see it as nothing but nigerians take it overboard not like I blame them but it the situation we find ourselves.
ReplyDeleteStella pls I sent you a mail.
Well, I sed without asking sef.
ReplyDeleteI believe my God is above all. And Yea, my family pictures are all on fb.
But rmbr, I'm not in naija. And SM is mostly d only way my family can keep track from naija.
I don't like it.. The world in which we live in a very bad place.. .and besides your EDD should be private.... It's only for your husband, yourself, your family and the doctors and nurses who will take your delivery
ReplyDeleteI hate social media craze. ..i don't know how people do it
@Anonymous Orubebe
It may be right in other countries but not in Nigeria. What is anyone's business with my EDD? I can tell my family and some few close friends but I wont announce to the world.
ReplyDeleteYes ooo. I can't shout abeg, I didn't only hide my due date I hid everything possible from the public. Naija we dey I no fit come born ebora
ReplyDeletenobi jost dew det, eye no dey evun anuonce my bird-day befur e arrife... so dart my vilage pipu wheel north cum an laik the koment, later meck me slip a day befur my bday an weck up a day afta.
ReplyDeleteChai villager, kuku kill me. Lol at waking up the next day after ur birthday.
DeleteI'm sorry but I don't even share my pregnancy pictures on social media when pregnant until I put to birth talk more of announcing due date... I don't even tell anyone what I'm having. Anytime I birth and post on my page, everyone asks when, how??
ReplyDeleteThat's how my aunty when for scan and she was told it's a boy, 4 good scan told her it was a boy. In 4 different places and at 4 different times . I followed her once and we saw it was a boy. They kept showing us different part of the baby, like this is the head, sex organ, blah blah. Seeing she really wanted a boy she was more than elated and shared the news with friends. As she already had girls. She and hubby bought all boys things. Decorated baby room with blue and what not, the excitement was just too much. That's how she dreamt one day that a friend came to visit her and her baby, so she gave the friend the baby to carry and went to bring something to serve her. When the friend was about going, gave her the baby back. She looked and it was now a girl. She told the friend this isn't the baby I gave to you. I gave you a boy, why are you giving me back a girl. where Is my own baby? And that's how she woke up. Only to go for last scan in one of the places that told her it was a boy she was having and they told her it's a girl. A girl? How? But I was here and you said it was a boy. and not like she came when things can't be seen clear. The last scan before the one that showed girl was done at 38 weeks. The one that showed girl was done at 40 weeks
Whether we like it or not, Nigeria is not Europe or America. Juju/jazz works. Someone will now come and manipulate your child or sit on motar for you when you are in labour. And that's how somebody will just die or baby will die or one issue. Biko, better to be safe than sorry
Gbam!
DeleteI love you Fabmum
Jeez!! Things dey happen oh. Was it a girl she eventually birth??
DeleteJanelle,yes na.that's what she said.
DeleteAwon aye!

DeleteFab mum, I don't doubt your story at all but I have a friend here who was told at all her scans she 2as having a girl. Like she even went to have the 3D one and they said it was girl. Had her baby shower and all. She gave birth and it was a boy! You cant sue the hospital cus they tell you, it's not 100% guaranteed that the sex is always right.
DeleteLet her know this in Nigeria, Dem witches no dey play at all... Post ur edd and be expecting extended delivery date...if my mama no notice any changes in me, I no go tell her say I dey preggy
ReplyDeleteIt is very very wrong. Tho some people might not see anything wrong in it o. But for me, it's a no no.

DeleteIf it was possible for me to disappear during the pregnancy and appear with the baby I would. Things are happening, I used to dismiss spiritual things with a wave of the hand but omo things dey happen for Naija. Why would you want to announce your EDD the the general public in the first place? Stella even una oyibo people dey do occultic things but maybe e no reach baby side.
ReplyDeleteIt is not bollock o. Village witches are real but the power of God is greater.
ReplyDeleteI used to at first but after a series of serious misfortunes, hubby and I decided not to tell anymore after all no one will help you carry belle or push out the baby.
It was when I saw something that village people get inner eyes. The kind attacks I received in my dreams fit full book.
Now I don't say I am pregnant until I put to bed and my village people de react badly, de rake
I don't think is a good thing to announce your edd date before time. The only person that should know about it is me and hubby, my doctor too will know it but the rest na wash.
ReplyDeleteNaija get wahala sha. I remember when I was pregnant mum will come me to warn me about so many superstitious things like attache pins to your cloths when going out, don't going out @ certain a certain time of the day. Funny enough I obeyed every thing out of fear. I don't really believe in those things but I did then because prevention in away better.
ReplyDeleteYes ooo. I can't shout abeg, I didn't only hide my due date I hid everything possible from the public. Naija we dey I no fit come born ebora
ReplyDeleteWell, like I will always say,I don't believe in anything juju/witches/wizards/village people nonsense. But I wouldn't announce mine, just cuz I want to keep it private. Not cuz of fear of village people.
ReplyDeleteWell in in UK we say EDD is Estimated Due Date. I carried my 2 babies in UK and EDD is seen as public knowledge. Infact strangers will query your name choices self.
ReplyDeleteLol
ReplyDeleteI live in the UK and I keep rolling my eyes when my colleagues ask me certain questions e.g. bring your scan photo we will like to see it, your symptoms, what are you having? When is your 20 weeks scan? When is your due date ? Egbami. They want to know everything.
My colleagues carry my pregnancy for head pass me, they are so excited. I am always evasive with my answers, I just don't like prying questions.
I go for my hospital appointments and see other pregnant women announcing due date and how far gone they are without nobody asking, LMAO.
🤣🤣🤣. Ahhh, I took my scan pictures to work o. Even the ones I had done in 3D to check the babies' faces well. Infact, they were in my drawer before I took them home. All they had to do is ask, and I'll show them the pics in excitement. I used to ask those who haven't seen if they'd like to see 🤣🤣🤣 I'm not superstitious so I guess, it didn't bother me.
DeleteStella as a Nigerian. I don't think its proper. I live abroad, nobody even in my family back home knew anything until after I had my baby. Coupke with the fact that my sisters are battling with miscarriages here and there.
ReplyDeleteAnnounce my due date!!!!! You won't even know I'm pregnant till I'm about 7 months gone. By the time they start guessing that I might be pregnant, I don born my pikin finish. Thank GOD for giving me an amazing body. I just feel pregnancy should be handled the way couple want it. For me. I prefer privacy.
ReplyDeleteOnly my mum and hubby knew my EDD throughout all my pregnancies.
ReplyDeleteMost people don't ask either
This world is mysterious so one has to be careful
Why now?..who wan die young?
ReplyDeleteSuch date can't be announced oooo
MC pinky
I believe that it is what someone strongly believes in that works for that person. Some of these superstition come to effect because we have come to believe it and put so much meaning into them. But then, you can't assure yourself of safety even when you don't believe in it, everything that happens has a spritual background even the Bible says that "we are not fighting against flesh and blood but principalities and powers" whether you announce it or not, wisdom demands that you keep some things discreet. You don't know who is with the dagger behind waiting to stab. This is inherent in humans all over the world.
ReplyDeleteOn SM, I still wonder why people find it hard to keep their life private, nobodys cares about what you do. Nobody!
Ayam a very secretive person, and I love myself dat way. My EDD is one aspect of my life i wud neva let out only my immediate family would I devour such to..
ReplyDeleteBTW wetin Una wan take person EDD do?would u help d woman push wen she is in labour or undergo CS on her behalf if need be?_ mschew
hmmmm....i no de tell o,just hubby & I know d date, this has nothing to do with d 'Naija mentality'.....i just love when everyone is looking forward to the good news(no idea )
ReplyDeleteMust I even announce it?
ReplyDeleteAbeg, they will know when the baby arrives.
I have announced so many things to people which didnt end well. Abeg, I nor dey do.
Some family members/friends are still angry with me that I didnt tell them before I left the country.
My adage says "Eni ti sango ba ti oju e wo ile, ko ni bawon bu oba koso" #deep
With the rate of monitoring spirit in Niger???
ReplyDeleteNoooo
Even pregnancy is because u can't hide it CU's it will surly show,if not we even hide it sef
I am 6 months pregnant and my friends and my husband's friends don't know I am pregnant.
DeleteMy husband's friends are angry that they have not visited us at home this year and claim he has changed and he is avoiding them.
I have been avoiding social gatherings and visits. I am ok with just my family and hubby's family knowing for now. Friends will know when I pop, I can't chout. This belle has been God all the way and we agreed to keep this private.
I have a friend on facebook (white) when his girlfriend was pregnant he announced, first scan he posted and edd also he posted. My point is you are what you believe. They don't belief in all these stuffs but we do...life shouldnt be so difficult that you have to hide your joy.
ReplyDeleteSorry to shift away from topic o, but why do our parent body bite them whenever they see you pressing your phone or sitting down and they ask u to go do one immaginery work. I tire o
Who says it's not needed? It's needed my dear. Why do you think native doctors ask for pictures or something that belongs to the person you want to attack?? It's because without that, they can't touch you. To touch you, they need to link something that comes from you.
ReplyDeleteYou haven't heard stories about how they wait till your due date and attack you in that place. Alot of people that died in child birth wasn't normal. If you look beyond the physical then you will know. I know a lady that was in labour for long and her pastor was praying outside the room. The pastor told thr husband to go the house and make the mother stand up from the mortar she is sitting on. He went and the mothers room door was locked. He knocked and knocked but she didn't open. He broke down the door and pushed her off the mortar. Not up to 10 minutes, his wife put to birth. What will you call that?
I believe in village people but my God sure pass them
ReplyDeleteI am currently reading "48 Laws of Power" and one of the Law is "Conceal your intentions".
ReplyDeleteI have an open personality so it doesn't take me anything to tell you about myself(Good, bad, ugly). My siblings call me "radio without battery" and the day I found out I was hurt and I learnt to keep things to myself.
I remember when I told one chick something and she went to gossip to another chick and the second chick was like" she already told me" .the first chick was like how can I share such terrible incident with more than one person but that's who I am.
Then something happened to me on FB after I shared something personal since then I gave myself brain.
I hate it when I see new born babies online talk more of a pregnant woman before she puts to bed.I am a believer in the Word so I know "No weapon formed...." But the Bible also says "Wisdom is profitable to direct".
Biko Amaghi ndi Ana eze(trans:we don't know who to avoid)

KING XOXO MYSTERY
I have a close friend that her two pregnancy born abroad i didnt even know she was pregnant: The first she claim she was travelling for a course; i kept wondering when will you finish this course; becos we chat and talk daily: one day i just noticed she uploaded a baby hospital pic saying its a girl; i was abit hurt becos i share everything in my life and marriage with her.
ReplyDeleteSecond pregnancy she did sAme thing. Said shes travelling to do some check up cos she has fibroids. Anytime i ask; she will say shes still doing tests. Next thing she uploads her baby boys pic.
What iv just done is i also dont confide in her again. i dont need to know her EDD but as a friend iv known for 20yrs. you shld be able to share with Me.
excuse my typos phone is bunkas today:
Spot on! I have a friend that did the same to me. She hid her pregnancy, and due date. I was hurt because I shared everything with her. When her brother's wife was pregnant and I was pregnant as well she was hiding the brothers wives due date. I stopped being friends with her because I feel she doesn't trust me and I feel uncomfortable with the idea
DeleteBeware of that friend! She doesn't love nor trust you enough to even tell she's pregnant.
DeleteThat's one sided friendship.
You sound so entitled... Friendship for 20 years, so?! Should she tell you what she eats daily, or when she visits the bathroom?!?!.. sit in the corner and realise the world does not revolve around and neither does her life. You should be grateful you friend and the baby are okay not bitter !
DeleteAnon.17:08, sorry if that hurts. She may have her reasons.
DeleteA close friend once asked me to buy her jewelry sets from the Island not knowing it was for her Introduction. It was on Facebook I saw the pictures.
Life is full of unpleasant surprises. Try also to confide in God only.
Something similar happened to me with a friend that I had known for over 15 years. We went to school together and was even a bridesmaid at my wedding. To say I was hurt will be an understatement. We talk at least twice a week and I didn't know she was pregnant. We live in diferent states so don't see often. She just called me after delivery that surprise!!!!!! Surprise bawo...... me and you even gist about our other friends that are pregnant.......like how? When? And the funny part was this was her 3rd child so it wasn't like she had never had a baby before. We have always discussed our pregnancies with each other ... so this one really threw me off. It pains me because I tell her everything going on in my life. I have been advised to stay away from her as she can't be trusted. I find it hard but I'm learning to just mind my business and face my family.
DeleteMy friends and I announce our due dates to each other , and post pics of our pregnancies on social media . I don't think think it's a big deal at all. God that gave me the pregnancy is greater than whatever evil power , and as a Christian , I refuse to live in fear . We've all gone on to have very healthy happy babies who are all toddlers now . To each their own anyway.
ReplyDeleteI don't support anyone announcing their EDD. This is Naija and one can't take chances......
ReplyDeleteOllie, chop kiss 😘😘😘
ReplyDeleteOllie, chop kiss 😘😘😘
ReplyDeleteI announced all my due dates over and over again 🤣🤣🤣. I'm starting to believe the psyche that, what you feel, you attract and what you think, you become! If you go about thinking someone's going to eat your baby, it may just happen.
ReplyDeleteThat was how I felt too with my first pregnancy. ...I even ask friends /family to feel fetal movements when it happens around them....
DeleteLet's just say I have learnt d hard way.
MI o ni Ara of, make world people no turn me to basket.

DeleteTochi, that was busy flaunting her pregnancy, robbing it for other women who are ttc to see and sharping her mouth upandan,is still carrying her big belle, other people have carried and given birth, her own has stop growing, not until her husband told someone that they don't know what to do again, after 7months of healthy pregnancy with scan result showing the baby,a recent result is showing that its not a baby DT its fibroid and she needs surgery to get it out. Now,she sneaks outta her house, hides her face from street people.
BVs,we are in Naija, don't give the devil a chance.
