Speaker Dogara hosts members to Ramadan Iftar

...He also offered prayers for President Buhari's quick recovery

The speaker of the House of Representatives, Hon. Yakubu Dogara, yesterday hosted members of the House from South West and North Central zones to an Iftar (breaking of fast).

During the event, special prayers were offered for the quick recovery and safe return of President Muhammadu Buhari.

Speaking at the occasion, Dogara stated that the breaking of the fast has now become a tradition in the House as a way of demonstrating unity among members, regardless of their religious persuasion.

" In the House, we now have a tradition where members from various zones join our Muslim brothers to break the ramadan fast to show that we are one, irrespective of our different beliefs," the speaker stated.

He enjoined the faithful to continue to pray for the leadership of the country at all levels, for Nigeria to prosper, and use the opportunity to continue to pray for quick recovery and safe return of President Buhari.

"We pray for those who are piloting the affairs of the country in his absence, more than ably led by the Acting President. We pray also for the National Assembly for the complimentary role we are playing in providing good governance in the country. We should also remember leaders at state and local government levels and all in position of authority so that God will continue to increase them in wisdom, strength and good health, because if the leaders are doing well, the nation will do well," the Speaker said.

A statement by the Special Adviser to the Speaker on Media and Public Affairs, Turaki Hassan, indicates that the Iftar dinner continues today (Wednesday) and tomorrow with South South/ North East and South East/ North West Zones respectively.

The Ramadan Iftar which has now become a tradition in the House was introduced by Speaker Dogara during last year's fasting period.
