The Chairman of the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), University of Ibadan Chapter, Dr. Deji Omole, stated this in a statement in Abuja on Monday.
-University of Lagos (UNILAG) N14, 500 to N63, 500
-Ahmadu Bello University N27, 000 to N41, 00
-University of Nigeria N60, 450 to N66, 950
- Obafemi Awolowo University N19, 700 to N55,700 .
– Nnamdi Azikiwe University N20, 100 to N65,920
– Nnamdi Azikiwe University N20, 100 to N65,920
- Bayero University, Kano, N26,000 to N40,000
- University of Abuja N39,300 to N42,300
- Usman Danfodiyo University N32,000 to N41,000.
The statement which assessed the two years of President Muhammadu Buhari’s administration, lamented that the government had made Nigerians poorer.
Omole said the public education was not taken seriously because “children of the rich and those in high offices” do not attend school in Nigeria.
The latest increment might be attributed to poor funding by the federal and state governments as ASUU poorly rated the President Muhammadu Buhari in the area of funding of university education.
ASUU also noted that it would be difficult for any Nigeria university to compete globally due to inadequate budgetary allocation to the educational sector.

I pray this is not true o Stella, the news has been going round for the past 24hrs.. unilorin own too much ehn, so many students will drop out. imagine from 17k to 70k.. which kind life be this?
ReplyDeleteThey drop out other people take their place the circle of life
DeleteWell, universities aren't non-profits, they have to pay staff and maintain the facilities, the money has to come from somewhere. Some of the increases are significant though, massive jumps, they could have been more moderate in the increases, unless university enrollment has decreased significantly.
ReplyDeleteWahala wa o.....lasu nko?
ReplyDeleteUNN, ABUJA AND USMAN DAN FODIO are still within their initial costs. The difference in others is just too much. Not like I know what they are teaching them these days.
ReplyDeleteMay God heal my country Nigeria!
ReplyDeleteMy School's Dean already debunked this news... But if this is true, we are in for some serious trouble. I mean, more than 200% percent increase!
ReplyDeleteclues less nation ,why wont they be Evans ,yahoo boys and people being on the fast lane ,when you increase school fees you expect parents to get the money from 30 -70 k salary they earn from.a bank job or you expect them to pay from.18k naira minimium wage ,or you expect them to pay from akara frying or platain hawking ,no jobs for students ,Nigeria is a big laugh i swear .An average living Nigerian sends their children to private schools. So why suffer the poor ones
ReplyDeleteShey you live abroad, is tuition free there. Education is expensive. Compared to most countries it is still very cheap. The oil boom is over. Government have been subsidising education in our country. Even with the current rate it is still subsidised. I am not happy with the percentage increase in most of the schools but the era where we waited for government to do everything for us is gradually coming to an end.
DeleteYet parents still pay tax, please govt must still do everything for the masses bikonu
Deletemy dear in abroad students can work ,some countries education is even free ,some countries you study after graduation you work and little money is removed from your salary monthly .you do this in a country where you dont give them power supply to even run a small scale business or good road or even subway to move goods for sale easy ,bia dont even compare Nigeria to even bostwana .Nigeria is one of the richest country in the world.they have billions to steal but cant fix things ,anonymous i know you are one of them una weldone
DeleteCynthia, parents in other countries don't pay tax? How many people even pay their tax apart from those mostly in the civil service. Most private employers deduct tax from the salaries of their employees but don't remit to the government. Uniben and ubth failed to remit taxes to Edo state government for over 10 years, yes they are federal instructions.
DeleteNot everyone should get a university education, some young people need to learn skills this is what is missing in Nigeria. Many skill acquisition centers but everyone wants to get a sub-par university education. A broken circle of barely literate graduates looking for low paid jobs to educate their own children with.
Delete#Don't waste your time on people who don't appreciate you*
ReplyDeleteEverything is falling apart under APC and Buhari.
ReplyDeleteThe money students spend on smoking, alcohol, womanising, partying, clubbing, expensive phones and others should be more than enough to pay tuition. In my days tuition was just #15, it was difficult for some to pay. I pity the children of the poor, it's not a crime to be poor. In other climes people start saving for the education of their kids from birth. Scholarships are available for very brilliant students, there is also student loans. State governors use to give out bursery to students of higher institutions. lazy lecturers are not helping. 4 years MIT ago made 15 billion dollars from their patents alone, an amount higher than the federal budget of that year. No place for research in our universities, all the lecturers do is go after little girls. Eventually they will reduce the fees when students protest. My pain is students on self sponsorship, how will they cope.
ReplyDeleteNa wa....
ReplyDeleteThere's just something about being in the north that I like
ReplyDeleteStella I don't think this news is true, I saw the full list and it's crap. They said LASU is increasing from 93500 whereas Lasu fees is 25k, they also said uniosun is increasing from 92500. Lautech is even in the full list and they got ours wrong as well. If the list is true how come the current school fees of some universities is wrong?
ReplyDeleteNa real wa
ReplyDeleteYabatech nko... We protested for reduction tire... Whey they agreed to reduce it, they reduced full time school fee only... Till now majority have not paid, they claimed part time are the school "internal generated revenue"
ReplyDeleteWhat will the common man do?
ReplyDeleteSee the Federal Universities that people used to run to is now 'Expensive' too.
Were are they increasing tuition fees to.
ReplyDeletethis is too much.
ReplyDeletecurrently in anambra state university,100level medical students paid #402,300 ,200level paid #252,300 300level level is paying about #180,000 only God will help us in this country,i know you think am lying for a state school but that's the truth,i think the least in our science campus is about #137,000 for engineering..So those universities up there are still in safe hands
ReplyDeleteThey are all jokers, comedians in d making, unizik 63k, na d lecturers go dey go d school
ReplyDeletenawoooooo. This is terrible
ReplyDeleteThat's what happens when you vote someone with just standard six to fight only curruption. Someone who knew he's not medically fit to hold such a position as the President of a country, but ignored that because of greed and selfishness. I hope though voters will be wiser next election.
ReplyDeleteWhat rubbish are you all saying? Please face reality...these fees are not too expensive....do you people know what parents pay for primary and private schools....my kids pay about 70k per session for a private school in Ikeja..then you expect a university where more is taught and provided to be less....pls be very realistic abeg...
ReplyDeleteThe primary school is a private school like you said. My brothers are in private universities and their school fees is very high and was even increased but you don't see them protesting or complaining because it's private
DeleteBut a federal university shouldn't be expensive since it's federal. That's the whole idea. Because their fees are subsidized. Because the get their funding from federal government. So it shouldn't be high. I don't think they should be paying more than 40k on federal universities as bad as it may be.
I can understand state universities paying alot because funding is from the state and most state are broke anddobt generate a lot of revenue to help the schools alot but federal universities shouldn't be expensive.
If a family wants to go the expensive root, then their is private universities. People go to federal because it's cheap
Thanks to Obafemi Awolowo for our own school time.
ReplyDeleteThe "new Nigerians" are hell greedy, corrupt (body or money for first class), producing sub-standard graduates.
