A very remarkable day indeed. M.K Abiola will never be forgotten. The elections, military intervention, lives lost and the effect of deep rooted corruption in the Nigerian political system.
ReplyDeleteGod help Nigeria.

ReplyDeleteSeyi incase u dnt knw, JUNE 12 was a date Nigerian voted for a Muslim-muslim ticket. It was a date d@ reminded of wen we was one Nigeria, nobody care wer u frm wat u worship. It was mainly wat u cn do, u knw it was a period when we com together and speak as one out of hope and faith in the future of dis COUNTRY. I grew up in agege and then we had igbo, hausa and n-deltan folks living wt us in peace and unity. I never heard of people calling d igbos crooks, yoruba cowards and hausas in-human den. It was a period, we seems to have lost forever no thanks to IBB/ABACHA. The ghost of june12 will forever hunts some families
DeleteJune 12 is not just another calendar day in Nigeria; in progressive ideological circles, today is regarded as the authentic ‘Democracy Day’ as against the ‘May 29’ date popularly celebrated by the Federal Government.
ReplyDeleteThe date is celebrated in honour of an annulled presidential election
That may sound strange to foreigners or young people without a knowledge of Nigerian history but the truth is ‘June 12’ is a celebration of an election won by the late chief Moshood Kashimawo Abiola, born August 24, 1937, of the Social Democratic Party (SDP) on June 12, 1993. The results of the election were however annulled, a decision that plunged Nigeria into crisis.
June 12 is supposed to be democracy day for Nigerians as against May 29th.
DeleteThe day democracy was brutally strangled and buried. Since then, democracy has never been the same again
I am not understanding this post, To be sincere. Which one is democracy day again? Is it not may 29th again or have they cancel it?
ReplyDeleteJune 12 1993 I was still a kid then u know and can't really take into account what was happening around me. All I could remember is that I was in villa playing with sands. Lolz

ReplyDeleteHow could I ever forget. The freest and fairest election in the history of Nigeria. Keep Resting in Peace, Aare Ona Kakanfo!
Stella June 12 isn't democracy day, may 29th is, there have been many requests to the FG to mark it as democracy day by the likes of Femi Falana (Falz' dad) & co but, it has fallen on def ears. Today is just a day to remember him, as far as I know, only lagos and Ogun state honour the day, sometimes Lagos declares it public holiday when they are in the mood.
ReplyDeleteWow! I never knew Falz is Mr Falana's son.
DeleteOne Igbo life is worth ten thousand Arewa's.
ReplyDeleteHaaa June 12, I can never never forget. Abiola, the president we never had. Ibb never expected Abiola to win. He made sure he wasted his money to purnish him. Abiola was a charming man. Very very funny man. When he comes to our house, we were always so happy cos that whole month is sure. Ibb, Evil genius indeed. Look at him now? Abiola is resting and Ibb is in so much pain. Leg no function. Irony of life . God has a purpose for everything. Rest In Peace baba kola, ologun dudu.
