She made the submission at the VivaWomen women quarterly event held at Insight Publicis Nigeria office in Lagos.
While delivering a keynote address on the topic: An Anywhere Leader - Lead with a Difference”, Mrs. Alabi remarked that everyone can be leaders, regardless of their titles. Telling her story, she spoke of how she grew from being a Content salesperson at Sesame Street in America to leading the largest PayTv channel in Africa.
In her words: “when I took on the position as MD of MNet, I had no clue what I was getting into. I literally had to learn the hard way, to lead albeit with fear. Along the line, I came to the realization that to be an anywhere leader, you are constantly going to be in a flux and you need to transform and adjust to different circumstances”
Meanwhile, the VivaWomen Nigeria Lead/Chief Operating Officer, Quadrant MSLGroup, Mrs. Tosin Adefeko while speaking at the event reiterated that the VivaWomen initiative is to provide a platform for women within the group to share their experiences, best practices, mentoring and for networking.

That's so true
ReplyDeleteIta true. But she is the Ceo. Soooooo
DeleteI told some people around me this and they felt I was saying so because I didn't want to stretch myself. We can't all be entrepreneurs!

DeleteMy one and only Linda! Kedu?
DeleteEntrepreneurship isn't for everyone, truly. I used to work with alot of SMEs and stella you will literally laugh at the conduct of some 'CEOs'. Interestingly, they eventually make it in Nigeria but ask me why we have so many short-lived businesses here?
ReplyDeleteSo a company I previously worked for did their 10th anniversary. We organised an event to that effect and the clients that came were not only surprised at the kind of projects we had handled, but mainly at the boss's consistency in the same line of business. They gave a number of reasons but one of them was that the people running these businesses did not understand what being an entrepreneur entails.
So the usual cycle is: start small-push-big break (which is relative)-king kong moves and dreams-no baseline to support king kong-crash-'priding' to admit faults and learn from mistakes-decides to try something else.
So i wonder is it because of economic pressure?

You can say that again Ms Biola. Many people think been an entrepreneur is easy, but trust me it's otherwise. You require like 3 times more hard work than working in a company.
ReplyDeleteSo,you see,not everyone can have that zeal and be consistent while at it.
Entrepreneurship is hard work but the reward is long term
#Make yourself a priority once in a while. It's not selfish. It's necessary*
