Uber Chronicles 5

Hey everyone! It's another week and today I write with a heavy heart and I ask myself, are we really done with slave trade? Do the whites really look at us as equals??

So we had a symposium, Heads of Uber Nigeria, from the Uk and I think Netherlands, with the Drivers and partners, we thought it was just a regular meeting, then we got the shocker! Uber was slashing prices to N200 base fare! and not reducing thier percentage! because they felt they weren't having 'riders' again and wanted to compete in the market! But they were wrong! And it has spelt doom for the company in Nigeria!

Imagine Uber trying to copy Taxify?? Taxify collects 15% meanwhile Uber collects a whooping 25%! And most of these drivers have to pay partners a certain fee every week! Tell me how would they cope? And when these so called 'Heads of Uber' were cajoling us (with funne) that there would be top ups we were listening not knowing it was a trap! Because in the end, those top ups were useless! And they were now creating Surges up and down that even when u hit it, the surge just gives u back the old base fare instead of increasing it!

Imagine someone going from Aguda to Kofo Abayomi and paying N300? Or from Luth to Deep inside Palmgroove and paying N600?? Or going from MMA 2 to Ikate for N1600?? And the annoying part is the riders will balance and say put on Ac! or say why don't you have a cord so I can charge? And the next thing they report you! Even kabu kabu without AC won't take these low prices! It's not fair!

We are not saying don't slash prices, but how can you slash that low?! Think about the wear and tear of the Car! Maintenance! And fatigue of the drivers!... Please if there are Human Rights Activists on this Blog, please look into this and help us! A slash to N300 base fare is not bad at all!

We want to provide 5 star trips and give good services! But with this rate? Don't be offended if an Uber driver comes off rude or gives an attitude! And please y'all should not report anyhow at this time, because we are going through a lot!

On a lighter note: So I get a request to pick up someone from Sanusi Fafunwa, the Rider hops in with a lady, and it turns out he's my old neighbour! And he's surprised at the same time shy (busted!!, lol because he's married with kids)I start the trip and it was within VI, and he starts to explain that the lady is his colleague and blah blah (errrm excize me sir, I didn't ask u all these) along the drive he also starts to applaud me and my siblings, that he's proud and impressed with our Entreprenual spirit and all! (In my mind am like at least 5* sure and tips sure!.... So I thought)
Trip ends, and the bill is N820! And he says oh wow cool, so just give me N100 and keep the rest with a smile!... Am like pardin!? Ayam not understanding Sir! Keep what? . Omo I cried in my Soul! And he keeps going am so proud of y'all (am like Yinmu abeg!)...

So please I beg again, be nice to us drivers at this time of trouble! Thanks and God Bless!

PS: lest I forget, y'all can download Oga Taxi, help the struggle! It's Uber guys who are there too and u get good cars too!

That's all for now, till next week, so stay glued for more Chronicles....

As a rider or driver, do you have your experiences too?

*He paid you N100 when his bill was 820?..or was that a typo?

In as much as it's not proper to say UBER is doing the wrong thing, it is also pertinent for us as a people to be considerate and understand that viable competition keeps a company alive and competitive. You refused to inform us that Taxify started the price reduction before Uber followed. If people port to taxify for lower fare and leave your uber; i want to be certain your chronicles would be differnt. i suggest u sit and study the business case for u to remain with uber or switch to anoda wit more profit and returns.

  14. i don't understand why you are complaining here and comparing uber and taxify. Pls leave Uber now and go to Taxify or do your own business. Nigerians always complaining and instead of looking for a solution. Any rude driver i will report kai!

  15. The same oga taxi that one of the taxi drivers beat up a lady because she didn't refer to him with "e" ? No thank you. I prefer una because you guys are more professional but the price slash is killing oh good for us but obviously bad for your pocket.
A massive protest and withdrawing of all of una cars from the scheme will turn things around but guess what? It won't happen, why? There will be several judas that will betray the plan and dabaru the aluta.

    1. Whether Judas like to betray us or not, in the long run, we will all withdraw our vehicles.
It's just not profitable with this new rate.
As it is, uber is now even cheaper than Oko ashewo.

    2. Port to taxify or oga taxi biko

  16. To be very honest this price slash is unrealistic if what you stated up there is true.

Did you guys really lay out the issues to be addressed properly? Did you factor in cost of fuel?

  17. @DaSuspiciousJoe errr.... in my MBA they taught us that there are times when conflicts would arise between the management board and Employees. I guess this is where good HR (or in this case driver managers) come in. They should have heard from the drivers and then updated their adverts to say they give world class standards in Nigeria compared to 'others'. Make base fare N300, percentage say 18%. They come and speak with phonetics because they think Nigerians don't deserve i proper explanations. So unfair!

Poster better check your margins and decide which works best for you. Don't stay and whine

  18. I feel for uber drivers,hw can they save for the maintenance of the ride,I entered ordinary Taxi with A.c. to Lekki at #5k no traffic ,then at night I entered uber and was charged #2800 with all the traffic and beautiful corolla ride.I gave him #3500,the slash is not favourable to the drivers, but good for the economy
