THE WAIT
After being delayed for 15 months, (due to the nonchalant attitude and laziness of the student affairs officers of uniben), I finally printed my call up letter on the 20th of jan 2017. I already knew where I was going to (FCT -ABUJA), all I just had to do was wait till it was time to print my call up.
JOURNEY TO CAMP
The journey to camp was a smooth one, I booked
With one of the transport companies going to camp directly. I met a lot of PCM inside d bus (mostly uniben students), we discussed about anything and everything especially how uniben frustrated us. Took pictures bought stuff on the way. Sang, etc.. Even the driver had to complain our noise is making the AC blow hot air.. I made friends inside d bus dat I still talk to from time to time.
CAMP EXPERIENCE
I already had a general idea of the stress, the fun the punishment, in camp, so I configured my mind to hope for d best while expecting the worst.
I went to Camp a day before camp opened, we weren't made to carry our bags on our head, we went straight to our respective hostels to sleep in preparation for registration the next day. registration wasnt difficult for me cos we were the first set to start. In less than an hour, i was done with reg and got my kit. My kits were oversized nd I had to look for who to exchange with which at the end was fruitless cos almost everyone were looking for smaller size. I had to go to mami to amend mine to my size.
Drilling started in the evening, it was fun for everyone at first till a week later when people started avoiding parade, sneaking to the clinic to form sickness.. I couldn't hide in my hostel because our hostel mistress always lock our hostel. *sad sigh*. So those in my hostel (patriotism hostel) always attend parade *hot tears flowing down my cheeks*
During the first week of camping, I was battling with fever/actute constipation, it wasnt funny o I couldnt sit. I was weak, infact, I dont want to relive it. 2nd week I was battling with cold and sore throat, 3rd week I was battling with body pain and sore in my mouth due to lack of vitamin C. (YOU CAN SEE HOW MY VILLAGE PEOPLE FOLLOWED ME FROM BENIN TO ABUJA ABI **crying*) so I didnt really maximize the camp as I had planned.
ACTIVITIES
I participated in some activities in camp. I was on kitchen duty for my platoon, did parade, man o war drill, SAED, and participated in our cultural day. I couldn't do much cos of health issues and I couldn't take exeat to leave the camp. The ones I culdnt do, I cheered for my platoon.
PUNISHMENT
before the official swearing in, someone in my platoon laughed when the morning prayer was going on, so they already planned to deal with us even before swearing in.. The RSM said we won't get above 40 percent in any activities and true to his word, we were always failing. But I think they forgive us towards the end of camp and we started winning Activities we participated in.
Our camp commandant was another problem.. His rules ehn, no part 2. He will always make us sit on the floor anytime he is around, he dare not catch u in the hostel when others are outside bcos he will so deal with u.
He had a set of rules. NO LOITERING ABOUT, NO PHONE. NO NOISE, ALWAYS DOUBLE UP, ALWAYS WALK ON THE RIGHT SIDE OF THE ROAD, DONT WEAR WHITE SWEATER, ONLY USE YOUR KHAKI JACKET TO FIGHT COLD, DONT WEAR YOUR JUNGLE BOOT WITH YOUR WHITE AND WHITE, NO HEAVY MAKEUP etc. The rules were too many and we had a hard time remembering everything and so we just avoided him like a plague. When he is coming like this you will see people running for safety bcos if he catches u, get ready for punishment.
CAMP BOO
I Didnt have any camp boo, I just had a lot of male friends I hang with (most of the females were married or engaged so they feel you are not on the same level with them)
OTHER POINTS ABOUT CAMP
CAMP BOO
I Didnt have any camp boo, I just had a lot of male friends I hang with (most of the females were married or engaged so they feel you are not on the same level with them)
OTHER POINTS ABOUT CAMP
Most of the officials were nice (90 percent female), our camp director was the best, she always advised us and begged for those serving punishment.. Shout out to our FCT coordinator, our supepe daddy, he treated us like his children and showed us love. The kitchen food was very okay.. I Didnt buy food in mami even for once (but I ate orishirishi), we had ATM inside the camp so withdrawing money wasn't an issue. We always had water but the light wasn't constant. We Didnt do bon fire night or endurance trek due to security Or so they said.. We only did cultural day. In all, I enjoyed camping but I won't want to experience it again biko..
PPA
I got my posting letter and I saw ministry of petroleum. See d way I was jumping up and down thinking I will b swimming in money *yimu*
For now, the ministry is just there, no work yet (budget have not been signed). Right now I am focusing on my SAED training. I also plan to do part time/weekend job to help keep my mind and hand busy, but I haven't seen any yet.
I know my stay here in abuja will favour me, but for now I am taking things one step at a time.
ADVICE TO PCM
Abuja Is a great place but if u are not strong, u will develop HBP before your time. Please and please if you dont know how to manage resources don't come ooo.. Abuja consumes money. But IF u have money and can manage resources biko come.. Orishirishi and opportunities plenty here.
