MTN Foundation Donates School Furniture to Erinle Community Kwara State

Extreme joy, excitement and gratitude best describe the feelings of old students, pupils, parents and teachers of the Muslim Junior Secondary School Erinle, Kwara State as they received brand new sets of school desks and chairs from MTN Foundation as part of the Foundation’s ‘What Can We Do Together’ Initiative.

An octogenarian and 1952 graduate of the school, Chief Saka Raji could not hold his joy as he expressed appreciation and delight for the furniture donation to his alma mater. “Today, I am indeed very happy. I am the only surviving member of the first set that graduated in this school and I am happy to be alive to witness this memorable event,” he said.

Speaking further Chief Raji said, “Many parents have been forced to take their children to private schools even when there are no qualified teachers. This is due to lack of good furniture that has made the learning environment unconducive. I believe contributions like this from the private sector will help to rekindle parents’ interest in public school education.”

Expressing her sincere gratitude to the Foundation, Staff Secretary of the school, Mrs. E.O Omokaye, thanked MTN Foundation for the donation, describing the gesture as a laudable initiative. She added that the provision of chairs and desks came at a time when such facilities were highly needed by the children. “This donation will not only help our students to be more focused and comfortable it will also increase the number of students that the school can admit, since we now have a comfortable learning facility.” She added.

Speaking on the ongoing installations, Executive Secretary, MTN Foundation, Nonny Ugboma, said, “We are pleased with the positive responses received from beneficiaries’ communities through the initiative that was launched in 2015, as parts of efforts to reach out to more Nigerians.

The initiative, now in phase two will provide 20 transformers, 20 boreholes, 80 school furniture and 80 primary health care centres across all six geo political zones in the country. Installations are ongoing in more than half of these locations across the country.
