ReplyDelete2017 budget in May 20, 2017..
ReplyDeleteWehdone..
Stella the right side is the Revenue while the left is Expenditure. They should have put it in percentages for better understanding. I still have problems with the Recurrent Expenditure which outweighs the Capital Expenditure, but it's better than the previous years. It is the C.E that people get to benefit from directly in form of good roads, hospitals etc. R.E is various remuneration of staff at all levels.
ReplyDeleteI also have problems with the fact that the budget is Deficit and not balanced at least (if not surplus). It's well sha.
As much as people like to see Capital Expenditure higher than recurrent expenditure, that can only happen if we can generate more revenue. Remember that it is the recurrent expenditure that pays for health, education and other "services". Also note that this is where federal civil / public service salaries and pensions are taken care of.
DeleteSo don't expect a drastic reduction in recurrent expenditure if you don't want someone you know in the public service to be impacted.
However, with more revenue generation and cost efficiencies, there can be an increase in the capital expenditure.

ReplyDeleteBetween, that diagram is silent on what portion of the budget will eventually end with looters.
I hope his budget helps our economy reshape for the better
ReplyDeleteLast year we had a deficit of over 2 trillion, this year we have a deficit of 2.3tn the painful part is that capital expenditure is 2.17tn that means we are even borrowing to fund recurrent
