Witness Claims Husband Of Ibadan Lawyer,Accused Of Murder Stabbed Himself To Death

Michael Lana, a defence witness in the murder case against a female lawyer, Yewande Oyediran, on Wednesday told an Oyo State High Court in Ibadan that the deceased, Lowo, mistakenly stabbed himself to death.

Yewande, a staff of the Department of the Public Prosecution, Oyo State of Ministry of Justice, allegedly murdered Lowo, her husband, by stabbing him with a knife on February 2 at Akobo area of Ibadan.

Mr. Lana, a lawyer, while being led in evidence by the defendant’s counsel, Leye Adepoju, said that the landlord of the couple, Akinpelu Adelodun, told him that Lowo mistakenly stabbed himself while he (Adelodun) was trying to settle the fight between the couple.

The witness said Mr. Adelodun also told him that Yewande came out from the house shouting for help while Lowo was chasing her with a knife.

He said Mr. Adelodun informed him that Lowo had held down Yewande beside his car, adding that he (landlord) was able to rescue Yewande while Lowo mistakenly stabbed himself in the neck.

Mr. Lana, who said he was a family member of Mr, Adelodun, added that the landlord called him on phone to his residence as a lawyer to narrate the incident to him.

He also said that the landlord requested for his advice on a letter sent from the court inviting him (Adelodun) to come and give evidence in court.

The witness said Mr. Adelodun further told him that he did not give the police the real knife that stabbed the deceased, adding that another knife was taken away as the murder weapon.

He said Mr. Adelodun told him that he did not give the police the real knife because it could be incriminating as the thumb print on the murder weapon would be that of the deceased and him, and not that of Yewande.

During cross examination by the prosecution counsel, Sanya Akinyele, the witness said he was in court to prove that Mr. Adelodun was lying when he told the court that he did not call him on phone.

Mr. Lana, who claimed that the statement Mr. Adelodun made to the police was not true, added that he was in court to ensure that justice was done based on the truth.

The News Agency of Nigeria reports that a witness from MTN, Mr James Oluwatunyi, was also called by the defence counsel to tender the call log between Lana and the landlord.

Justice Munta Abimbola adjourned the case till May 24 for continuation of hearing.

NAN reports that the accused, who is standing trial on a one-count charge of murder, had remained in prison custody after entering a “not guilty” plea.

  3. I followed this story and I hope the landlord hasn't been compromised because initially he said d girl stabbed her husband while fighting and after settling the fight he advised the guy not to sleep in the apartment BT he refused saying his sure she wasn't angry anymore and then she stabbed him again as they slept which killed him.

The moment talks of how influential her family is and her coming to court in a private car rather than d usual 'black maria' I feared he may be denied justice.

Sad case the girl is a black widow

When this man knew his wife was a ninja he should have fled the 1st time round.
If your partner as little as threatens you with a knife. That signifies the end of a marriage. How can one be married to one's enemy.

Whoever kills must be made to face the music.

How come this witness is coming out now?
Why didn't we hear of this before?
Women also commit acts of violence and should be made to face the music just like men.
Madam,If you stabbed your husband, I pray no Judge gets you out of this.
Her story struck me because after the issue got settled,She still carried out her threat.
I understand that some women kill their husbands in self defense, but this woman's one was a deadly act.

  12. this is pure lies, how can somebody chasing another mistakenly stab himself, the thing is that the guy is dead, but madma know that any wrong done to man by man must be address by man and if not by man then by God, also no peace for the wicked.

Oga landlord this was not your initial statement, just know that somebody's blood is involved.

  13. Is the landlord talking to a group of kids or adults? Knife na toy? A grown up man mistakenly stabbed himself to death what a wonderful. He was able to raise his hands and plunge a knife in his neck by mistake, landlord abeg I take God beg you better return that bribe they gave you before you rub shit for your face. Mumu talk you did not give police the real knife, that mean you held the dead man's hand with another knife and rub it on his blood abi?

    1. What kind of ridiculous tale is this? "He said..." "He told me..." Is this child's play? She and her lawyers couldn't even come up with a believable "witness" and "truth".

      Nonsense!

  17. This is very common in murder cases, the defence tries to manipulate evidence by "buying" witnesses' testimonies. Since it carries a death sentence, the defence will employ all sorts of tactics but the court always sees through them. Even when a court knows a witness is unreliable and lying through his/her teeth, the court remains silent until judgment day. This evidence will not be in the accused person's favour because, a witness' oral testimony ‎in court must be the same as his statement to the police. So if the witness tries to change the evidence he/she had earlier given to the police, the court will discountenance the entire evidence of that witness because the court cannot pick and choose which narrative to believe. It's known as the inconsistency rule.

The courts are mindful of the fact that defence witnesses lie a lot, so courts are not easily fooled unless the court has been compromised. I remember Rev. King's case where the defence tendered the statement of the deceased, the girl who he killed. Apparently, she made a statement to the police before she succumbed to her injuries. In her statement, she completely exonerated Rev. King. She told the police that it was a generator explosion that caused her injury and that Rev. King was upstairs in his sitting room when it happened. Imagine that! Even on her death bed she was still being manipulated. Of course the court saw right through the bullsh*t and still convicted him.

It's a normal phenomenon for witnesses and even the accused person in a murder case to give flamboyant and psychedelic evidence that are regarded as an affront to reason and intelligence. As long as the Judge has not been compromised, the defence witness is just wasting his time because his entire evidence goes to no issue.‎

  19. Chai I said it when this news came out. She is from an influential home and will never be found guilty. That witness, if you are lying, may you be killed in this manner. Why don't the wife claim provocation or self defense to serve a little term. When choosing a spouse, never go for someone without conscience. Men stop cheating! Many have died from cheating.

  20. This is so sad. The dead of course cannot defend himself. I knew it'd come to this since I saw a post on Facebook from a bunch of lawyers inviting others to come together in defence of the wife, who happens to be a lawyer too. Rip to the dead

  21. I followed this story too. So suddenly the landlord's statement has changed. Anyway let the court acquit her but the court of conscience and sacredness of human blood will not acquit her. Rip to the dead.
