I got this in my email.....
Please be informed that the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) has released a new guide to Bank charges effective May 1, 2017. (See copy of the CBN circular attached).
Notable amongst the list is the Charge on Returned Cheque due to insufficient funds which has been reviewed upwards. N5,000.00 flat would be charged for cheques N500,000.00 and below, while a 1% charge applied on cheque value for amounts above N500,000.00.
Do ensure that you fund your account(s) on time to enable us honor your instruments whenever presented as severe sanctions await customers with returned cheques (irrespective of frequency) due to insufficient funds.
Sequel to the CBN circular on issuance of DUD cheques dated June 28, 2016, a monthly report of customers who issue any cheque against an unfunded account (irrespective of frequency) is forwarded to Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) and erring customers would be barred from using Clearing system and accessing credit facilities for a period of five (5) years and shall also have their cheque books cancelled/recalled.
The defaulters shall in addition have their account details forwarded to the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) for further investigation and prosecution.
