Ojota used to be a military settlement in the late 18th century and soldiers practised their shooting there.
The area had several gun firing spots and became known as "Oju ota" in Yoruba which means "Bullet Spots". Now called Ojota.
2. ABULE EGBA
This area is on the outskirt of Lagos and got its name from the early settlers who were Egba people from Abeokuta.
The area was first called "Abule awón egba" in Yoruba which means "Village of Egba people". It later became " Abule Egba".
3. APOGBON
Apogbon got its name from the then acting governor of the Lagos colony, William McCoskry, who heard a red beard.
Those who couldn't pronounce his name decided to describe him by his beard, "Oyinbo to pon ní agbon" meaning a red-bearded white man. It later became Apogbon.
4. MAGODO
Magodo is now a posh area, but in the past, it used to be sacred land. The residents had a lot of taboo's and one of them was to avoid using mortars and pestles, "Ma gun odo" which means "Don't pound mortar". It later became Magodo.
5. EPETEDO
Epe is named after the early settlers who were Epe traders. The area became dominated by the Epe's and they still trade there.
7. BROAD STREET
Broad street used to be one of the longest and widest street in the city. It got its name from its broadness.
8. IKEJA
Ikeja is actually an abbreviation for "Ikorodu and Epe joint administration". It was coined by the oyinbo's for ease of communication.
9. OJU ELEGBA
Oju elegba is coined from Ojubo Elegbara. Elegbara was the deity that the people worshipped in that town. Elegbara's shine was located in that town. Ergo the name Ojubo Elegbara (Elegbara means shrine).

ReplyDeleteI followed all the drama on Ihn yesterday and spontenous post this morning concerning Stellas cash gift to Bloglord and her request that the gift be used as recharge cards for some bvs and the blog. So Stella took back her gift according to spontenous post this morning and all hell broke loose.
My take on this is that Bloglord was wrong not only because she rejected the gift but she gave instructions to Stella on how it should be shared, she mentioned not one or two but TEN bvs that Stella should give 1k R/cards to and also the rest for the blog. It is insultive according to one anon on spontenous post not only in Yoruba land but to any reasonable person.
All this big politicians and royal fathers, people bring gift to them during sallah or christmas, they accept the gifts and send someone to share to their workers, friends or relatives, they don't reject the gifts and even when they do, they don't tell the owner to go and share it to some people. Let us call a spade a spade pls.
Bloglord should apologise to Stella for what she did.

I don't usually comment or even read SP and IHN, usually too long for me. But I had to comment on this BlogLord matter.

People have bad mouth including me when ppl come for me that is. They will begin to say BlogLord is a beggie beggie, she cant even afford data if not for Stella. Meanwhile we all know that is a lie. Majority of those that leave such comments are even the frustrated bvs that cant believe another person is not suffering, another person is doing well.
Now she has rejected gift again and said it shld be shared. People are still talking.
I don't see why anyone should take offence to this.
There are times iv gone to visit my grandmother and as big as I am because I'm the last grandchild she still sees me as a baby and will be giving me money like she use to do back then.
Off course I always refuse, but some days she will squeeze it in my bag.
And even I will still go ahead and give her something also when I'm leaving.
