A bizarre incident occurred at Tamadu Barracks, North Avenue, Apapa, Lagos, yesterday, following the discovery of the lifeless body of the Fleet Commander, Western Naval Command, Apapa, Rear Admiral Teikumo Daniel Ikoli, in his apartment.
There are conflicting reports as to how the Fleet Commander died. But a source told Vanguard that sounds of gunshots were heard from his duplex in the early hours of yesterday.
It was gathered that late Ikoli, who was one-time Commander, Nigerian Navy Ship, NNS Beecroft, lived in the duplex with a house help, a boy, while his children schooled abroad. It was also gathered that he left the office earlier than usual on Tuesday, after complaining that he was not feeling well.
News of his death threw the entire Command into mourning.

A personnel, who spoke on condition of anonymity, said: “He was a wonderful officer and an achiever. “When he was the Commander of NNS Beecroft, he transformed the place. But we noticed that he became withdrawn at a point. He also suffered from an unknown ailment. “Only God knows what happened yesterday.
There are suspicions that he could have been assassinated, because he had once said assassins were after him. “That was when he was a member of the Presidential Committee on the probe of arms deal. He lived alone— with a domestic worker. “His wife stays in Abuja, while his children are schooling abroad"

ThisDay Report
Barely seven months after he was promoted from the rank of a commodore to a rear admiral, Daniel Teikumo Ikoli, an officer of the Nigerian Navy, has died in his residence in Apapa GRA, Lagos.
He was said to have shot himself in the chest after firing two previous shots that hit the wall and the television set in his house.
When THISDAY visited his house in Apapa, it was as quiet as a grave yard, as no soul was found there, although some of his neighbours said his body had since been removed and taken to the morgue.

Initially, the navy had suspected it was an assassination attempt going by the deceased’s previous paranoia about assassination threats during his tenure as a member of the arms deal probe.
However, after the police were invited and they did a sweep of the apartment and the scene of his death, preliminary investigations revealed that he had shot himself.
Details later…
RIP

He was depressed and stooped taking his meds. When the first shots were fired, his cook called him thinkin it was robbers (as d cook stays in d bq) but he responded saying its ok. Then d 3rd one and he called again but then he didnt pick. The cook called his orderly who then called d man and when he didnt pick, he called the foc and he also started going to the mans house. Personnels were dispatched to his house. Hia doors are even armoured so they had 2 go get equipments to break it down. No sign of forced entry and all
HIV made him kill himself.
