Such students, he said, are unserious elements that should not be accommodated any longer in higher institutions.
The President also cautioned governing councils and managements universities against muzzle-flexing and ego-tripping, which he said had thrown affected universities into avoidable crises.
Buhari spoke at the 31st convocation of the University of Port Harcourt (UNIPORT).
He further assured his administration was committed to the 2009 agreement entered into with the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU).
This, he noted, led to the recent setting up of a committee to renegotiate the contentious agreement.
Buhari, who was represented by the Minister of State for Education, Prof. Anthony Onwuka, told vice-chancellors and their managements to practise transparency, accountability, fairness and ensure discipline.
He said: “We must stop to continue housing adventurers, who have no business remaining in the universities beyond the time specified for their studies in the universities.
“In that wise, it is being proposed that at the end of this academic year, any student with less than 0.5 CGPA should cease to be a student of the university and should be shown the way out.
“The universities must continue to have people who are serious in what they have come to do.
“If you have less than 0.5 in your CGPA, you are out. You are out for good so that the space will be left for those who have come to do serious business.
On governing council, he charged them to avoid ”unnecessary muzzle-flexing and ego-tripping that throw affected universities into avoidable crises.
“They must look after the welfare of staff and students and ensure proper development of their universities.
On the contentious 2009 agreement with ASUU, Buhari pleaded with the lecturers to give peace a chance, by coming to the negotiation table in the best interest of higher education.
He reassured ASUU and other unions that government was committed to quality education in the universities and other layers of the education sector, including the welfare of staff in the system.
*Does the President have a right to do this?Recession is biting hard and now you want to take away some people's right to be educated?na wah!..Or am I not understanding this?

DeleteI mean which department will allow a student have GP of less than 0.5 and them never fling am comot? Is it even possible for a student to have GP of less than 0.5?
Is it just that? Check out their poor English online. You will be shocked. 0.5gpa is as good as not going to school naa. Na to de insult their seniors everywhere, busy wasting parents money. DeleteKaii madam everything you wrote up there DOES NOT show that you have a certificate yourself. #bringbackthegloryof englishlanguage
DeleteI guess you are part of the 0.5cgpa that should be thrown out of school. With your grammar I wonder how you scaled through English in your WAEC. Ogbuoge."those" and "does" Don't go and study, be here looking for people to insult.
DeleteSmh.
DeleteHmmmm who are obviously in that category, that's why you are insulting him. Pure evidence, see spelling....
Delete0.5 is even too good. It should be set at 1.0.cgpa. some students can be so carefree about their schooling..
ReplyDeleteWait o, of all the issues we re currently facing in this country with people attempting and committing suicide here and there,Hostels re in deplorable state,it's this GP issue that's bothering our dear "certificate-less" President.chai.This is really CHAINS for those who voted him in. ..I can never be affected because my case is different

You are allowed. Ok
Sometimes in a desperate need to b relevant on a platform dat ranks low in the skim of important things, people end up sounding stupid.
DeleteU kidjo, has hit dat mark with this comment.
I am shocked dat Stella would make d above comment. But again, what do I 'know'? She would probably b happy if she pays school fees for her child in this recession and they come home with a 0.5 cgpa.

A president without a weac certificate, meaning he never saw the four walls of a secondary school block. Wants vice chancellors to expel students in higher institutions due to poor academic performance.
ReplyDeleteSeems everything is comedy in the zoo.
Yhoooo one of my favorite bvs is back. Welcome back dear.
Delete*hangs leg on the wall*
Fools on parade...
DeleteThanks, my pastor's daughter, never knew someone missed me here.
DeleteThis is coming from someone that came into power with a fake certificate...
ReplyDeleteHeight of hypocrisy!...
Tueh!...
This woman it's obvious you are demented. So if your papa didn't go to school, he doesn't have the right to send you to school or ask you to come out best in your academics? I wonder whom you are married to, he must be one of those illiterate Igbo men selling CD plates at Alaba. Double Tueh for you!
DeleteShe is saying the truth why are fighting her. Nawa for some pple ooo
Deletei find this not possible..please..am not sure there are students in nigeria institutions that have less than 0.5 CGPA....
ReplyDeleteWhat connect recession with unserious students ?
ReplyDeleteThey should be shown the way out so they don't pollute the rest hard working and go getting students.
Shut the fuck up. Were you shown the way out with your criminal life? Yahoo boy no maga
DeleteAnyone with a right to be educated should have a GPA above 0.5. What are you possibly doing at a university with that kind of GPA. I second the motion.
ReplyDeleteI wonder oh. People are even defending them here. Comparing them to Buhari with Waec.I dont fancy Buhari but at least he allegedly had a WAEC result which was the highest form of education he sought at his time. Most people in the force then were not too keen on furthering. How can I suffer to take my kid to school and he/she comes out with such grade. Because you decided to join bad gang in school. God forbid bad thing.
DeleteNow I know why most people here reason with their anus.
ReplyDeleteImagine what Stella wrote up there.. how can you connect the two together ? Recession and student that's not serious and not performing well ?
If we don't know what to say at time, we need to keep quiet so one don't sound like a fool.
Na wah o.
Stella, he isn't taking away some people's right to be educated. A cumulative grade point of 0.5 isn't encouraging at all. And that's why some universities place such students on probation first before asking them to withdraw if no improvement is shown. Frankly, a Cgpa of 0.5 is a pass and even worse than a third class. It's advisable for such students to start again so they can have better chances in the labour market. *I stand to be corrected o*
ReplyDeleteLet Buhari produce his waec result first
ReplyDeleteHaba annonymous, i mean no insult, but if Buhari has no waec cert like they say, and now he wants to push students harder to make better grades and results, isn't that a good thing? Sometimes we have to keep sentiment aside,u and i know that if our kids or siblings bring that kind of result home, nobody would be happy to say the least, well i do not know where you come from. And today if an enemy would push my kids so hard to make them better people in life, i don't mind, infact i'd personally look for that enemy.
DeleteWhat right if I may ask? 0.5 CGPA? They had better go learn handwork.
ReplyDeleteWe can't all go to school.
Good step...those that their results are below pass should continue cos their carryovers no be here. Most universities started it since 2015(below one point is remarked as withdrawal)
ReplyDeleteIn some universities outside Nigeria , if you have A CGPA of less 1.5 . You are asked to either leave that particular department to another department
ReplyDeleteOr if you have less than I.0. You are withdrawn.
I don't think he is being unrealistic.. it's the norm .
Even the school I did my Msc withdraws any student with less than 2points.
DeleteStella you're not understanding oh.
ReplyDeletesee ehn, Nigerian universities as it is, produce graduates that are half baked. And I'm talking about those who struggle to get 2:2 and even 2:1. So if our tetiary institutions are producing such half-baked graduates, do we need the ones who don't know what they're doing in university to remain there? Let's face it. Not everyone has the capacity for reading books and going through 6-6-4 education. If you try and your CGPA is too low, accept that it is a bow out. Your CGPA shouldnt be less than 1.00. Bad as e bad, make e reach 1. There are many intelligent people looking for space in the universities please let the dumbos create space for them.
A candid example of an half baked graduate is you.You talk too much. Running your mouth in every posts. Are you that jobless?
Delete20:51, you again???? @22:04
DeleteSomeone give me panadol pls, this headache-inducing English won't kill me. Lousy fool!
Anon of 0.5CGPA dey reply everyone. Well done. Get off social media and go read your books. You can still make it.
DeleteYour head is dia Chikki 👍💕💕
DeleteThis is the least of what is disturbing Nigerians...Please Mr President, get serious for once! Haba!
ReplyDeleteI supported him on this issue, I mean how can you have 0.5 CGPA at the end of the session? That is really unseriousness at the highest level abeg
ReplyDeleteI support(ed) him?WTF!It's people with such ingrish that ought to be sent out of Uni.
DeleteSome Vice Chancellors do this already. It is no news. At least the affected students will get to know on time that university is not meant for them. They start immediately to learn a lucrative skill.
ReplyDeleteI supported him on this...I mean how can you hv 0.5 at the end of the session? Ha na wa ooo...na real wa
ReplyDeleteAcademic incompetence has to be proven
ReplyDeleteWhat right are u talking about? Right to hv less than 0.5 CGPA? Let them go and find their talents somewhere else.
ReplyDeleteStella, do you know how many such students inhabit our universities doing nothing but drink, smoke, Rob & rape students? Not to mention the monies they collect from their parents to come & waste their time? I saw so many in my university, I am sure others encountered several others in theirs.in my school, one was told where he was outside lounging, that his mates were in the exams Hall,he said he wasn't in a hurry to graduate. That was his 7th year in that university oh!
ReplyDeleteEhn! After dey say Buhari...dey will nw come n say 'who was represented' mtcheeeew!
ReplyDeleteBTW dey shud indulge dem in a trade(dier passion) b4 sendn dem away.
Choi, is this part of the problems in naija?
ReplyDeleteYes, you are all half baked graduate, you are not employable and that's why you can't let us rest from begging.
DeleteIdiot.
Shut up your downgrading gutter of a mouth anon 20:48,Did she beg from you?
DeleteUseless bastards re all over this blog spoiling this place for us.
GTFOH ASAP.
Student with CGPA of 0.5 is that one a student?
ReplyDeleteSuch student is just a time waster
Meanwhile president wey no go school dey make such implementation...it's alright!
I wonder ooo
DeleteYou guys are daft, imagine fan Emmanuel that didn't go to school too having an oppinion.
DeleteI blame internet and China palasa.
Anonymous you're a very stupid human being. At least I have a WAEC certificate. Oya buhari provide your own ooo
DeleteOnuku Igala
FUTMINNA leads, others follow... 1.5 or you're out.
ReplyDeleteFail core course in year one and you're out of engineering.
Anti Plagiarism scrutiny using Turnitin for both undergraduate and postgraduate in full force.
Riot and pay restitution fee, lol.
Discipline overdose!!!
Thank you. Did my M.Eng there. Them no get time for rubbish.
DeleteSpot on!!! FUT Minna leads, others thrive to follow.
DeleteBaba wey no even know wetin GPA means.
ReplyDeleteLol
DeleteAbsolute rubbish, who says someone with that kind of CGPA cannot perform better when encouraged and councelled?is that the problem Nigerians are facing? SMH
ReplyDeleteHelp me ask oo stella
ReplyDeleteIn other words, graduate hoodlums and political thugs first before nation builders.
ReplyDeleteStella oh please, do you know what it is to have 0.5 as gp? Hian.
ReplyDeletePlease schooled her because she acting like an illiterate here, that's most of them follow her blindly without thinking.
Delete19:38, school 20:51 first before schooling Stella pls.
DeletePlease school(ed) her? You can't even get your tenses right, yet you call Stella an illiterate.Nigeria is doomed!
DeleteHow can someone with .5GPA still be in university? Is it a system of no one is left behind? Is that not why the the graduates can't read? This is surely a step in the right direction. If you don't study you need to kicked out. Simple as that. Well done.
ReplyDeleteWell all of you have spoken well. But the truth is that students that have such CGPA are those their parents forced to go to school while they don't want go to school. They want to do business, be an apprentice or learn one thing or other. So if they are forced to school what do you except. So many will read and read but will not be able to understand. Whatever they should go and do business or be an apprentice in the area of their choice.
ReplyDeleteStella u no understand. It's heartbreaking to pay school fee for someone n d person has a 0.5 cgpa, if na me I won't pay again, go n learn a trade!
ReplyDeleteStella can relate with them naa. 😂😂😂😂
DeleteStudents should just sit up, which parent will be happy to see their child having 0.5 cgpa?
ReplyDeleteBuhari and his rep should know that every Nigeria higher institution is supposed to have their own terms and conditions regarding students' academic performance. No need declaring draconic laws. Biko they should tackle other pressing educational issues.
ReplyDeleteWhat alternative is in place for the mr buhari
ReplyDeleteI was waiting to read who represented him, cause i know he will never go to other regions, president of the North. I hope this cuts across regions.
ReplyDeleteIt is so so so bad that in this recession, a student will now come out with a poor CPGA. Let that student go and become an artisan.
ReplyDeleteI think this is a welcome development in our educational sector. We need to raise the our standard of education that can compete with other countries of the world. Students need to study really hard to come out with good grades
ReplyDelete
