Police Foils Another Suicide Attempt On Third Mainland Bridge

The Lagos State Police Command has rescued a woman, Taiwo Titilayo Momoh who attempted to jump into the Lagoon from Third Mainland Bridge on Friday.

Taiwo’s case is coming few days after a medical practitioner, Allwell Orji jumped into the Lagoon from Third Mainland Bridge as his remains was retrieved from the water on Wednesday.

Lagos State Commissioner of Police, Fatai Owoseni told newsmen at the Rapid Response Squad, (RRS), headquarters, Lagos Government Secretariat, Alausa, Lagos, on Friday that Momoh was in a taxi heading towards Oworonshoki on Third Mainland Bridge when she told the taxi driver to stop on the bridge.

According to Owoseni, the woman was about to jump into the water when a police patrol team on a routine patrol on the Third Mainland Bridge sighted her and rushed to save her before she jumped into the Lagoon.

The police boss said from his interaction with the woman, she had depression as a result of unpaid loans, adding that “she is still insisting that she wants to end her life.”

Owoseni noted that committing suicide was an offence under the law but that the police would try to talk the woman out of committing suicide.

He said the woman would be taken through post-trauma programme to ensure that she had hope and not commit suicide, adding that the police would do a medical evaluation on her to ascertain her condition.

Owoseni lamented the rate at which people commit suicide in the country, describing it as worrisome, adding that the police had begun patrol of bridges across the state to forestall other cases of suicide.

He added that it was now an offence for individuals to walk on bridges in the state and that no vehicle would be allowed to stop on any bridge in the state henceforth in order to prevent suicide incidences.

“Right now, the woman is still in trauma and she still insists that she wants to end her life,” he said.

However, as the woman was being led from the RRS headquarters into a waiting police vehicle, she was confronted with several television cameras and still cameras and she reacted by saying that she was not a criminal and that her shots should not be taken.

    4. I know this woman very well. She has been suffering for years. Her son duped her years back. She almost died. It was her son that made her go broke that she started buying goods on credit.

Her house caught fire again, she survived it and later she was duped.

If you see her, she doesn't even look an inch of what she's going through.

      Thank God she was rescued.

  10. I can say without equivocation that everyone to commits or attempts to commit suicide always, yes in ALL cases, start by displaying strange and unusual tendencies which people close to them see. They then move to talking to themselves murmuring their frustrations and hinting to themselves that they want to end their lives. Again people close to them notice and heat this. Finally they begin to voice it out not to themselves this time but to people around them especially people close to them.
So why do so called loved ones who see, notice and hear these not take it serious and do the needful(as we say here) and save everyone from these avoidable suicide cases

No matter his many times they go to church or they position they hold there, they must still go to a babalawo. There are some people that ni matter what you give to or do for them they will never be satisfied and they will continue to bear hatred for you
In the same there will always be peiple that when they fall into suicidal tendencies, ni matter how you try help them, they remaian resolute and adamant. For such people, nwanta rie ihe oji makaya muru anya, ya ehie ura. So you let suçh people go and you make sure you shed no tear for them

    1. Dear it is bad. My mum is in this same textile business. She has also been duped twice before and now no sales. She has had to close down the shop and now she's into selling little items like coolers, drinks, rice etc but she's not making much. She's been so depressed. This is my mum that had up to 5 staff working for her, drivers, etc. She had to sack them all.
I now want to start diverting my thite to her because things are so bad for her right now. That can atleast take care of her feeding. Thankfully she has a small bungalow she built when business was good.I asked people's opinion as I earn just 170k and still have my own rent and bills. So I can't afford to give both thite and save atleast 50k a month. Some said i should keep paying the thite.others said to divert to her. Church will understand

I don't know how to face my dad with the truth, after all he has done for me and all he laboured for his family, this is how I pay him back. How could I be so foolish to allow a man deceive me. If I ever come out of this mess, I vow never to marry, I will remain single for life. Ladies please never you give your boyfriend money, even if it is matter of life and death. Don't grow with any man, he should go and struggle and make his money on his own, some men are not worth it.
