Official Statement On Missing Jumia Associate

It is with saddened hearts that we announce the ongoing police investigation on the disappearance of a delivery associate of one of our partners which has been possibly linked to the recovery of a deceased body by police investigators.

The associate was employed by our third-party logistics partner in Port Harcourt, Rivers State. Jumia Nigeria’s regional management is working full time with the partner, the local police and the family of the associate to investigate the case.

While the full facts are yet to be known, the delivery associate was reported to have been last seen on Saturday during his delivery runs. We thus await the results of police investigation on the matter.

While we continue to hope for the best possible outcome, we ask that the general public joins us in upholding the family and the logistics partner with prayers and support during this sensitive and difficult time.

Delivery associates and logistic partners are an integral part of our ecommerce business. They are a hardworking force of dedicated men and women who go through rain, sun and tough terrain to deliver to our customers’ expectations. We condemn and stand against all forms of verbal or physical assault against them and regard security on the job of the utmost importance.

We acknowledge and appreciate the public support that has been shown to the family, our partner and Jumia. We ask that continued support and prayers be offered on behalf of the associate’s family during the ongoing investigation, even as we also respect their privacy at this time.

Signed,

Juliet Anammah
CEO Jumia Nigeria

    1. I hear you. I think they should do a q
Quickteller system. Go to the ATM, pay via quick teller and you get a reference code to enter into your account. It's longer but safer for items over a specified amount

    1. Nigerians are wicked and evil. Even Satan is learning where we are. We are very creative and innovative when it comes to perpetrating evil and hurting others.

How can you do this to a human being ? What is his crime? A man hustling to make ends meet. I just can't comprehend it.

  7. Well, Instablog had the news up yesterday or so. I think the delivery of the iphones was what triggered this event. I think two iphone 7 and the customers didn't want to pay. Instead they resorted to killing him to avoid payment. Why kill someone for money just because of phones that might go bad anytime. Imagine the small boys and the girl sef that want to use the phones as hungry looking as they are. I guess they all planned it before they placed the order to dupe the man. And they tied him up like a goat sef.

The question I want to ask is if he was lured into the house to receive payment cos most times the business is supposed to be concluded at your doorsteps.

  10. This is just so saddening.

I say that they either scrap pay on delivery or insist all customers come to their offices to get their orders.

    Totally disgusting.

    2. Whitey, no!
You can't scrap pay on delivery in this Naija, they will deliver thrash to you, been there, gone through that. It's either you go to their office or you arrange to meet 'in' a public place during the day and payment should be through a POS not cash.

    3. Pearl, no. At times, the delivery people take it to customers' doorsteps.

Pipi, that's true. It has happened to me too. Thanks to POD, I was able to cancel the order when went to the office and saw that it was not what I requested for.

Yeah, your suggestions sound better. Enough of the home delivery bs maynne. No amount of money is worth anyone's life.

Hope you're good, mami? Been a minute.

  17. The desperation for material things is becoming alarming! Why order when you don't have the means to pay. Learn to be contended. The said items will be out of trend in the next 3 years.

People should hold loosely to all that isn't eternal

Poor boy! My heart bleeds for him. No amount of compensation will be enough.
