House Help Steals Over N5 Million Within 9 Days Of Working With Employer

A housemaid hired from Cotonou has been accused of stealing N5m from her boss just 9 days after she was employed.

The maid, Kumenu Tope Samenu, pictured has confessed to stealing money from her employer's room in Lagos.

In a video shared by Kehinde Rhoda on Facebook, Tope confessed that she uses a spare key to open her madam's room and steal her money which is usually in Pounds and Dollars.

She opened a bank account where she keeps the money she steals. As at the time she was caught, she had stolen over N5 million.

    3. This woman don enter. Her video has gone crazy viral. It's easy to pity such not until it happens to you.

We've experienced having a terrible maid and she did same. She would enter my room with a spare key that she made from the original. How she did it is still a mystery to me oh. The babe don nearly finish me before we discovered and handed her over to the police. We ended up in court but I had to let go after 2years of back and forth. She got pregnant whilst awaiting judgement sef.. But the pleading was too much so I had to let her off because of her new baby that she was always bringing to court. Her lawyer ehn, Infact he would have been the reason she ended in jail if we followed suit. Very wack

As for this one up here, better leave Nigeria cos ur own don finish. Thief

  9. We Nigerians don't hear words, stop engaging these Cotonou people as housemaids, gatemen because they're desperate to make it big. God save her she never waka.

  10. Stella, the truth is even us Nigerians aren't helping this employment situation. As bad as the job situation currently is, there are people who will do nanny jobs for 40-50k a month; very happily.

But NO! They go and employ these people from another country. On the pretext that 'Nigerians aren't honest'. Okay now see.... who is honest? Is honesty written on people's forehead? Let's not talk about those ikoyi ones employing western/Latino nannies for their kids and paying serious dollars. All as a status symbol. Heard of one that recently snatched madam's husband. Make them continue, since Nigerian dosmestic staff have become 'so bad'.

    1. This is greed in high places. Imagine, I for once think some even won't steal more than a million and walk away, but this one stayed and was still stealing till she got caught, what If she hadn't been apprehended? You mean she would have continued? Wow! This is a huge thief, and her greed for more made her exposed.

    2. @chikito. Do you know how I can get a good nanny job... Those agency will just collect ur money and won't give you the job

  12. When will people learn to stop using these cotonou people. I am not suprised neither am I sympathetic.
My cousin had two in her house. The day they beat her up and stole from her it was like film trick to her. She had two maids for her two kids. What nonsense. Let me not forget to add that she had a chef and a cleaner as well as a security man. So many strangers in just one house! A 4 bedroom house oh.

The best thing is to have someone who cleans and leaves. Even a chef who comes over the weekend to cook for you is alright too. If you need a child minder then make arrangements with a good daycare centre. Do not invite untraceable strangers into your home. The world is too evil abeg.

    2. Me, I have a morbid fear of gatemen, so I live on a 'close', my house doesn't have a gate house or gate man. There is security at the street entrance and as it's a close, I feel that's OK...

    3. My dear, easier said than done for some of us. If you have a crazy schedule with kids you'd have to get an extra hand jare.

It's just convenient but one needs to be careful. I also have two at mine but I'm security conscious. Thank God for cctv as well.

  13. Just 9 days? It's a planned work with the agent coz I don't understand what gave her the mind to carry out such act within the short time frame.

So what happened to Nigerians, are they no longer good for the job?

Crime is not linked to a particular nation, race or tribe, it's everywhere, when dealing with people you should look out for the content of the person's character.

  16. Chikito why are you always bitter towards us island people.
Only you talk about Island big girl wanted to pay for your cheap goods. Now you are talking about Ikoyi people employing Pilipino nannies, is it your dollars they are paying them or its your husband they are snatching.
Stop beefing people because they have more than you. Its not our fault we were born into wealth,iv been living in VI as far back as 1989 as a kid. Island big girl dis, island big girl that.
You just end up looking stupid and envious.
Each person has what is their normal and has a standard of living they are used to. If it differs from yours, instead of being jealous. Pray you get there one day.
If I can afford it, why wont I give my kids the best according to my own standard. Its my money isn't it.

    1. Always anonymous 😊 Now let me reply you cos I know you will check back.

Listen real good... you see that your gist, it's as noise-filled as the ones that those 'I'm an island' kids keep screaming in my ear everyday. when you get on your hustle, and can 'brag' by your sweat (like me) then come and ring that bell. I lived on the mainland and I now live on the island (Lekki 1 FYI) And I'm very open about that. And guess what?? There are people that can buy houses in Ikoyi and VI at one snap of their fingers, and they still live on the mainland - In finer, classier, more spacious houses. And guess more? There are residential locations on the mainland that are finer than many on this island. So this your rubbish story Doesn't make you better than some living as far as Ogun state.

FYI, i am a very silver spoon kid. My first memory of a home was a 14-bedroom house (on the mainland) with two chefs, three maids, and three drivers. My siblings and I never did outdoor sports because of the amount of Cars parked in that big house. On 2.5 plots of land. It's some of that pride I grew up with that I struggle to let go of, today. So don't come at me with that your VI story as if its scary news. Because even if it's a tiny flat in 1004 with no maid, you would ring 'island' to make yourself think you're better.

But unlike you, I'm thankful that the twists and turns of life have given me a broader understanding of what it means to be objective, practical and empathetic. So, I chikito WONT employ ANY foreigner as a status symbol, when I know Nigerians who can do the job and are seeking. It's common sense!! Later we blame the Govt for our problems when most Nigerians are a wasteful lot. So let that foreign nanny thought be your rotten 1989 cross to carry.

Anyone who lives on the Island know that 70% of the people here live very fake lives - even to banana island. Is it not here that Banks take ownership properties of so-called 'billionaires' everyday? So why are you acting up? Should I call names of people renting from one multi-million Naira home to another just to say they live in ikoyi? And are appearing on lagos tabloids as 'successful businessmen'? My dear, I've come from a very long journey, which makes me too self-absorbed to be jealous of anyone. When you, on the other hand, get a brain that matches your 1989 story then just maybe you can make non-biased salient points.

When we wanted to acquire our own property, we were moving from surulere and we wanted to buy at banana island. We got a property there but changed our mind when we got to ikeja GRA, we were thrilled

  19. I'm yet to hear anything good about cotonue workers employed as househelp or gate men. Their desperation has no rival, just 9days and 5 million has flown away into her bank account! If she stays for a month the owners of the house will sleep in their beds and wake up in the gutter.

    ReplyDelete

    1. Hahaha.no be small wake up in gutter. I don't want to generalise but really I'm scared of cotonu people and their desperate attitude towards money. One almost killed my brother last year over money he owed him and went to ask of. He choose to kill him instead of paying back the money he owed him. He used a matchete on his head dividing it into two when he turned back to leave cos he went early in the morning so he can meet him at home but he after pleading with my brother and my brother turning to go he went in and from behind cut his head into two. Twice. It's a miracle my brother survived that incident. It was only God.

    2. My salon owner said she brought in one. She lost her twin in her hometown, and they told her that she needs to carry a figurine with her wherever she goes. She bathes with it, offers it food (the girl always refused to eat at the table, so she thought the girl was getting used to new environment), as in whatever she does she does with the thing. When she's cold she covers the figurine too. But every night the woman says she sees a shadow walking around the house. And she hears a boy child crying. Her husband and kids too started seeing and hearing it. She said it became too scary. One day it occurred to her that it started when the girl came. So she sent the girl on an errand with her driver and searched the room. Only to find the figurine wrapped with all sorts under the girls duvet. That the girl told them if she doesn't hold that thing she will die. So they sent her away.

      Delete
    3. And the girl said her twin is usually very peaceful but he doesnt like this house that's why he's restless. So someone else will employ her and she will be with that thing quietly in their house.

  21. Some people trade in FX so there is no biggie having such amount at home. In pounds that's like GBP7/8k. The woman even sounds like an Alhaja, she may be trading in Gold Jewellery from the house sef, know plenty of them like that. She also mentioned a Rolex Wristwatch I think.
Many people are avoiding banks right now because of FX deposit limit etc. Her business may be legit, so you people leave the woman and face the thief.
Carrying such amount, she should have a safe at home though.
Let people stop employing these non Nigerians. My colleague that hired a Cotonou cook broke into her home the next day he came. And this is someone that locks her house round and leaves only kitchen open for staff. He sent the daft maguard to go grind pepper and cleared the house.

  24. Just seeing this. Wow! I'm guessing this happened around March. This same girl, called herself Philo worked as a maid in my compound around July and she stole tons, lied on others and was sent packing without all the gifts her employers got her because of her attitude problem, not knowing they will find stolen items in her bag. They began to put 2 and 2 together. She had been the thief all the while.
How did she get off 5 million Naira theft? She is an unrepentant criminal. If found, she should be arrested along with her agents. No way the are not in on it. They also discovered she was pregnant o.

Nigerians, wake up! We keep calling these house helps necessary evil. Could you not do without them? A girl like this would kill to have her way. FACT! God help us o.
