A woman was arrested in Mohali on Sunday for allegedly killing her husband with the “help of her brother and his friend.” The wife of the victim Ekam Singh Dhillon shot her husband at their residence.

Seerat, the mother of two – an 11-year-old son and a five-year-old daughter–allegedly stuffed her husband’s body in a suitcase and then hid it in a BMW car.

Seerat and her brother planned to throw the bag with the body in a canal, but after keeping the bag in the BMW Seerat misplaced the car keys and could not drive it away.


Speaking to The Tribune, SP Mohali Parminder Singh Bhandal said Seerat, who had been on the run was arrested after “she admitted to murdering him with the help of her brother and his friend”.

An FIR was registered on the statement of Ekam’s father Jaspal Singh, but the motive behind the murder is not yet known.

Apart from Seerat, her mother Jaswinder Kaur, brother Vinay Partap Singh and two other relatives have also been charged with murder in connection with the case.

Police said that Seerat used a 9mm pistol to kill her husband who she claims quarrelled with her after “he had come home under the influence of liquor”


Police were informed of the incident early on Sunday when a PCR team was alerted by an auto-rickshaw driver of bloodstains near the BMW car and on its rear seat on which the bag had been kept.

The report claimed that the auto-rickshaw driver had gone to drop a passenger “when he saw two women carrying a bag which seemed to be heavy.” They allegedly sought his help in placing the bag in the car. He got suspicious when his hands got stained with blood. He left immediately and informed a PCR vehicle nearby.

Seerat is the niece of Congress leader Ajit Inder Singh Mofar, who is a two-time MLA from Sardulgarh.
