DeleteThat was what a guy did to one of my former church member daughter. She worked with External Affairs and travelled to US. She made everything possible for her guy to join her. When the guy came, he did not spend a week, he disappeared to be with his babe. The guy is married to that babe and enjoying very well in US.

The father can always send the cash equivalent of the car to the young man. A parent may not be held responsible for the actions of a child but a parent can register his/her disapproval at the child's behaviour.
DeleteFor starters, why would any self-respecting FATHER accept such a gift from a man who isn't yet his son-in-law? A Fiance is just an upgrade from a boyfriend, until the marriage rites are performed, traditionally and/or under the Act, a fiance is as "useful" as a boyfriend, which is a far cry from a son-in-law. I used capital letters spelling father, for emphasis. I know mothers, generally, are usually more receptive when it comes to gifts, whether Greek or otherwise, from prospective suitors. Fathers are usually more difficult to "infiltrate".
I would imagine a father who was oblivious to the nefarious plans of his daughter, would apply more tact and diplomacy. How can he be so cavalier to the pains of a man who gifted him a car he is probably still driving around town in shamelessly? True, he can't force his daughter to marry a man she obviously has no plans of marrying, but he sure as hell can register his disapproval by calling his daughter to order, to apologise and refund all the guy she ditched paid for her to come over to the US. The father can even apologise on behalf of his daughter and offer to refund the Naira equivalent of the car, it's left for the guy to refuse. But for the father to remain wilfully passive, is unacceptable and quite low.

Last year at the peak of the recession 2 of my cousins called to tell me they will like to come visit me from the east I stay in lagos,the elder is awaiting callup from nysc, while the younger just finished ssce. We've never been close but I accepted partly because I'm a mother of two toddlers with a little business that isn't doing too well but I accepted cos I felt I'll be relieved for the short period of their stay. Domestically they relieved me but financially I was drained.
ReplyDeleteOnce we sold about 30k at the shop the next day their dad called they were in dare need of 25k. Unknowingly I've already paid someone I was owing and I told him so, to cut the long story short the elder informed me she was going back, I prepared her to the best of my capability. Buying new clothes, shoes, accessories, bag of rice and cash, her luggage was so much we had to pay for xtra seat. As soon as hubby left the park she sold her ticket and zoomed to God knows where. I was at home worried sick and praying she gets home safely. I kept calling and she kept on lieing about how the journey has progressed.
Next day found out she hasn't left LAG. I called her dad he kept blabbing, I just told him since he is aware she has left my house no problem. But d least I expected was simple sincerity to someone I opened my home and business to for 4months fed and clothed, including hair dos and toiletries. That I expected more from a so called kids from an evangelist daughter. The next day uncle sent me a message I should watch my words and actions before it's too late quoting one psalm "touch not my anointed etc" and I neva received thank you even after they all ate my bag of rice of #22k and cash, using the clothes I bought for them to catch Xmas groove.
I have sworn never to open my door to any holiday relation again.

ReplyDeleteSince Sunday I being dealing with this same issue.i live with a boyfriend 1) told me he found an akata for his stay process mostly they pay for it.2) not knowing dude being gbenshing akata and made it look serious in fact he never paid nor made her know it's a scam.3)I started complaining cos of the closeness and lies.dude kept lying.emotional torture on me part.i had it to the peak when he did the unforgivable and I busted his phone and called akata.dude might just be on his way back to Nigeria if he presses further to access akata now. Dude lost on both sides infact akata was digging and discovered there was even another akata dude been scamming on the side.long story.stelz ,contact me if you want a story in details.its so messy.im working with the akata now to start an awareness on this issues.she said to me,"most of the times the women go against themselves and the guys wins.but we gained friendship in each other instead.
