All those beggars have refused to look beyond their impairments.

Impairments and disability are often used interchangeably but in reality, an impaired person isn't necessarily disabled. It is societal and institutional models that makes them disabled.

For example, a person who has a functional impairment with his legs decides to get a wheelchair but he still has to deal with the prevalent societal and institutional barriers like buildings without accessible features such as ramps.

So, has oga overcome his perceived disability by getting a wheelchair that helps him move about? Yes. Has society and institutions aligned themselves with his ability to overcome his impairment? No.

Disability as a concept is therefore complex as it is relative and this explains why you see visually impaired persons here that move about without any help except for their waking sticks or dogs and persons with no legs that drive cars and hangout in clubs, go to malls, etc.

This society understands that simple concept that Nigeria has failed to see.
