The court also issued an interim order, suspending the release and launch of the film, in any movie theatre or cinema house on March 31, pending the determination of a motion on notice before the court.
The judge ordered the seizure of all copies, materials, projections or infringing materials, relating to the subject matter.
The News Agency of Nigeria reports that the orders followed an ex parte application filed by a company, Rancoteur Productions Ltd, on behalf of a Canada based script writer, Jude Idada.
Idada lays claim to the film “Okafor’s Law” as his intellectual property.
The plaintiff had filed the suit through Anthony Idigbe, seeking an order, halting the premiere and release of the said “Okafor’s Law”, pending the determination of a copyright infringement suit filed against Oboli.
Joined as first to third defendants in the suit are: Dioni Visions Entertainment, Omoni Oboli, and The Filmore Ltd.
The plaintiff, in its exparte application, had sought an order, restraining the premiere or release of the said film, as well as an anton piller order, seizing all copies of the infringing material.
The exparte application was moved in terms by counsel from the law firm of Idigbe, O. Otudor, who urged the court to grant the orders as prayed.
Delivering his ruling on the exparte motion, Justice Buba granted the orders as prayed.
The court made the following orders:
“An order of interim injunction, restraining the first to third defendants, whether by themselves or their privies, from premiering the feature film “Okafor’s Law”, in Lagos or any part of Nigeria, pending the hearing of the motion on notice.
“An order of interim injunction, restraining the defendant from releasing the featured film in any movie theatre or Cinema house on March 31, pending the hearing of the motion on notice.
“An order of interim injunction, restraining the defendants from distributing the featured film, pending the determination of the motion on notice.
“An Anton piller order is granted to the plaintiff, to enter into the defendant’s premises, Cinema, Studio and other places of dissemination, to seize all copies of infringing materials relating to subject matter.
“An order, directing the defendants to deliver and surrender to the plaintiff’s solicitors, all products and packages with the inscription, “Okafor’s Law” and volume of transaction or trade which have been done by defendants.
“An order directing the defendants to permit the court’s bailiff, and such other persons not exceeding four (4), to enter the premises on any working day of Monday to Saturday at 8am to 8pm, to remove all products or packages with the name “Okafor’s Law”
“An order for a search to be conducted at Viva Heights Odudu Eleyiwo St, Block 15, plot 17 Oniru Victoria Island, and Plot 1378D Joseph Namah close, off Karimu Kotun St, Victoria Island and all other places where Okafor’s Law is stored and sold
“An order declaring that a failure of defendants to comply with the court’s order, will put the plaintiff at liberty to apply for committal to prison of such person,”
The court thereafter, fixed March 29 for hearing of the motion on notice.
NAN reports that the movie “Okafor’s Law” is billed for release on March 31,
The court’s order was, however, served on the defendants on the evening of March 24 shortly before the movie’s premiere.atthe IMAX Cinema in Lagos.
The order consequently, clogged the premiering of the debut movie.
Jude Idada had accused Oboli of copyright infringement on the “Okafor’s Law” movie, adding that she had stolen his story idea for the movie in September 2016.
He alleged that Oboli took the work he had done regarding “Okafor’s Law”, and developed it without giving him due credit.
He avers that the producer, however, went ahead to set March 31, as a release date for the movie, in spite of a demand letter sent to her, as well as a copyright infringement suit instituted.
NAN reports that “Okafor’s Law” stars: Richard Mofe Damijo, Toyin Aimakhu, Blossom Chukwujekwu, Ken Erics, Yvonne Jegede, Halima Abubakar, Gabriel Afolayan, Funke Bucknor among other Nollywood actors and actresses.
Oboli is a popular Nollywood Producer, actress, Director and script writer.

DeleteKpele omoni,May God help u to recover all dat u ve spent fa!
That's how my ex told me about a fantastic business idea. Said he'd finance it. I should manage it cos that's my field.
DeleteWonderful ideq , I thought, and was very proud of him and happy.
Within the week, his secondary school classmate came to the house, he wasn't in. So the guy showed me his proposal, and told me he had asked my ex to support him financially, that I should help him talk to Bobo.
I was shocked.
The next time my ex asked me how far, I looked at him and hissed.
Intellectual thieves!
At anon 13.34. You said it perfectly. Naija people are too sentimental to rich people or

We keep talking about unfair situation in this country against the little people but unfortunately when the situation faces us and it involves the celebrity or fake ass fraud, they sing another song and turn the other side.
Really??? People should put sentiments aside and face the reality that the Judge must have seen a good evidence enough to have given judgement in favor of the Plaintiff
despite Omoni wealth and connection. Fair is fair irrespective of your status or connection. She is a fake ass and I'm glad she got served
Fair is fair and is good to know that God is on the Plaintff side despite Omoni status. Pay up and stop making fool of yourself with your crocodile tears.
DeleteFair is fair and is good to know that God is on the Plaintff side despite Omoni status. Pay up and stop making fool of yourself with your crocodile tears.
DeleteOk, can someone just 'leak' the movie 'unintentionally' pls.
DeleteCrocodile tears is now the new strategy to get Nigerians on your side. Commit attrocity and come to social media and shed crocodile tears, people will melt for you. Omoni do the needful chikina. Yesterday na husband they steal, today na dog dey steal, tomorrow na intellectual property they steal. Nollycrap will not seize to surprise us.
DeleteMy Omoni, may God see u thru this. #okafor'slaw
ReplyDeleteDis is getting really messy..
DeleteI remember dis guy first spoke up last yr concerning dis issue and SDK even posted it here..instead of her to HV reached out to him since and settle dis thing amicably, she didn't.. Now see d owoh soup she has prepared for herself..
Common sense is not common..

At Zitel. Wow!!! You have no shame just like your shameless Omoni
DeleteHmmmmm
ReplyDeleteChai, why waiting all these while for her to spend money to finish it?
ReplyDeleteAs in eh! See the movie I have been waiting to see all the while fa. Maybe she could have tried trashing it out with that Mr that called her out sometime last year or something. So does it mean silence is not always golden or what?! Oh Chim! May God see her through this trying time.
DeleteHe didn't wait till now. If only Omoni had sorted this out when it started, it wouldn't have gotten to this point
DeleteMy dear Sandy, silence isn't golden at all. The guy just wanted to strike when it will hurt her the most; and this is the best time to do that. She will pay thru her nose to settle the guy else all her money will go down the drain. The guy is a correct guy. She taught she will intimidate the guy with her celebrity status. Anam anu
DeleteCommon 750k she couldn't pay the guy then. Na now she go know how far
*Thought*
Delete@Ego. You said it perfectly. I'm glad the guy won. Lesson to other fake asses reaping where they didn't sow
DeleteOboli pls do d needful n save urself all dis stress.
ReplyDeleteWe all thought the guy was joking, and that a smart omoni will go and sort things out with him.
ReplyDeleteOh 😱
Personally I didn't like what d film was all about, promoting immorality .
ReplyDeleteAngle!!!
DeleteBut nobody dragged your judgemental being to cinema to watch by force and it's not your place to determine what others see.
Sorry for being insensitive earlier. Am sorry.
DeleteAt 12.55 Your dirty ass should be sorry too

She should settle the guy na. What's with all these show off and big girl stuff? Aunty you stole somebody's idea which is the norm for you guys but this one understands how the law works. Aunty pay up. This is the era of buhari oo. He is even too weak to identify a boob. APC on seat ooo.
ReplyDeleteYour last line. 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
DeleteHahahaha...
DeleteOmasiri oh!!!!!
IgA egbukwanu mmadu with laughter
LMAO 😁 @ he's too weak to identify a boob
Hehehehehehe..babe u baaad gaaan..
DeleteShe thought she could silent the guy because of her status forgetting that God fight the bathle if the motherless. A thief is a thief and I found it disturbing that people were in support of her because of her status. A celebrity can necef do wrong? Is that what I'm reading in this blog? Shame on you guys for supporting an intellectual theif
DeleteGood for her, she was only charged 750k why do this to the young man,
ReplyDelete750k really?
DeleteAnd omoni couldn't pay?
She must be stingy oh
Look what she landed herself into now...
Only 750k!!!!!! My Omoni done fuckup. If it was when Goodluck was in power.
DeleteEstablished acts always poaching ideas and intellectual property of the downtrodden...
ReplyDeleteThis will be an eye-opener to all of them..
MO Abudu will be dancing now as she smartly make writers and Co to sign off their rights to any work under ebonylife..well according to Twitter gist last year . Heheheh
Said it right
DeleteMo abudu pays well . If the pay is right why not?
DeleteDo the right thing,
ReplyDeleteDo not lie,
Do not steal,
Do not cheat,
Only then will God finish work for you.
Nigerians know how to form pain and Religious sentiments when they ain't having their way.
I no de so let whoever is lying be punished severely.
I'm glad she got served hot. She thought she can bully the guy to silence with her connection. She has forgotten that God is a faithful God that fight for the weak. This lady is nothing but a fake ass that take credit for someone' else's hard work. Thank God Jonathan is no longer in power if not, they would have dealt with the poor guy
DeleteKai..people wicked oo. After she has done the movie, done publicity & all the stress in between, then you now brought a court injunction not to release it. na God go punish you.
ReplyDeleteGod will punish you more. Someone is fighting for his right and you're calling on God who asks us not to cheat and steal to punish him. Don't blame you though, Pablo Escobar is your role model so I expect nothing less from you.
DeleteGod doesn't punish unjustly. If you 'steal', he will punish you as wellm
DeleteThe punishment is for you for supporting thievery.
DeleteWhat are you saying? After the guy called her out for it? Why can't she do something about the guy since all this while if he was lying? Continue swearing over what you know nothing about.
DeleteYou are the one tha God will purnish. See how you carry curse wey no concern you? Person steal another person work and you are cursing the victim, may that curse follow you enter your early grave. See the rubbish country we find ourselves,to live in Nigeria dey even scare me. Let her try it abroad if she will not pay with all her life savings. The guy approached her like a gentleman man last year, she snubbed the guy,the innocent guy now decided to get closure through the law,you are now cursing your lineage. Ara lo ma san pa iwo atawon to ni e ,ewu.
DeleteAnon 11:22 chill nah owo n tepe? Young escobar you are silly sha. People would cheat you and you would curse yourself on top? If Omoni had settled since she wouldnt be going through this.
DeleteNow look at how much She has lost already for stealing someones hard work and still going to part away with more cash.
You dont know the law so i shouldn't be wasting my time on you
At 10.42. You are a fool with no shame. Who cares if she spent her last breath to promote someone else's work? She should have given Ceasar what belongs to him. God doesn't like ugly and Omoni did something ugly and she got served for that. Thief shouldn't be compensated irrespective of what
Delete@Young. If someone steal your property, wonder if you will not sue them too Mr or Mrs Foolish
DeleteJustice Buba is not a judge to toy with. True to his words, he will commit omoni to prison if she disobeys his orders. I really feel sorry for her . Let her defend the suit noni. With justice buba, it shouldn't take long in court and looking at the bright side, all these are publicity for omoni. If she wins, she will sell the movie big time and claim damages against the guy.
ReplyDeleteAnother thing I'd like to say here, I don't know the circumstances of this case but people should be nice. You will take idea to them and they will tell you that they can't promote it. Later you will see them doing it. Mo Abudu did it to a friend of mine. The guy gave her a good idea for a TV show. She turned him down. Now she has started the show on her TV. Wicked people!
If he has solid proof, he can sue her.
DeleteYou won't know how much it hurts until your intellectual property is hijacked.
Bloody thieves.
Wunye clinton, you don't say.so painful.very wicked people indeed!
DeleteAll these nollywood actress are so mean & drama queens. Backbiting is their watch word.
DeleteThaya just share wickedness. She cant win this. This will teach others a very big lesson
DeleteExactly!!! Mo abudu is very guilty of this!
DeleteOnly in 9ja will people feel sorry for someone doing wrong thing just because they are famous. Really? If it is a poor person that stole their property, I'm sure the whole country would have killed him by now. Shame on anyone that feel sorry for Omoni for doing the wrong thing
DeleteShe should just swallow her pride, go and meet him and they settle this ish outta court na, abi wetin? Shish!
DeleteResponse@Sinshine. You said it right and Anon?14.09. Mo Abudu is their Chairman and Head of Runz girls. Only in Nigeria will a person be sympathized with for stealing someone else's property. This situation exposes her to the world that she is not as smart as the Media portrays her to be if not, she would have settle the poor guy. Every day for the thief and one day for the owner. God catches her where it pains her.
DeleteNot the type that gloat in someone's misery but this lady must have been found guilty based on the evidences presented to the Judge to have given such judgement despite her status. People should face reality and stop being sentimental
DeleteHmmmmmm they should settle well. Abeg any download?
ReplyDeleteI've even booked with a friend to come pick me up early on Friday in order to see the movie.
DeleteEven the bible forbids stealing, I wonder what she teaches her boys.
Well, the badt guys go soon leak the download link
Call Jonathan number and let him call the judge for you .. Yimu
ReplyDeleteThat was yesterday honey
DeleteWhy not settle this man. All the money omoni will use for legal fees just settle out of court.
ReplyDeleteSo you will think. But she is an arrogant bastard that think she is above the law because she has some God fathers. Shame on you Madam Cheater
DeleteAll I know is that the plaintiff's lawyer is a hardcore.
ReplyDeleteWaited for her to spend millions on publicity before striking.
That's the way to go. No time for dilly dallying
DeleteToo bad for Oboli...

I can't waste my hard earned money to go watch a Nigeria movie at d cinema.
No b small overhyped o! D movie is just there.
DeleteChoi.... She should have settled this guy nah, he isn't playing Mehnnnnnnn!!!
ReplyDeleteLess talk, more action...... She go Dey alright
This case was pretty simple, when Jude Idada called omoni oboli out last year, she should have called him and settle him, I believe 750k shouldn't be a big deal to her since she's claiming box office Queen. But she ignored the brother I bet she didn't see this coming, it doesn't take much to acknowledge someone who has done really a great job, by doing so, she makes him popular, and in return she's more popular, but she wanted to take all the glory that comes with the movie to herself... This intellectual infringement stuff has been going on for a long while in the industry, just that most of the people whose work are been stolen you'll discover are upcoming writers who are yet to find their feet in the industry so they chose to keep quiet.... Well let's see how far this case goes....
ReplyDelete👍
DeleteYes! We should learn to lift one another up. Wetin dey dis life sef?
DeleteLet them sort their self.
ReplyDeleteThemselves
DeleteIf actually she ignored that Mr guy and went ahead to shoot the movie and now this, she should dance to the tune of the music. Whoever that advised her to go ahead made a huge mistake. I pray they settle things amicably.
ReplyDeleteShe should have settled the guy if she is at fault.
ReplyDeleteUnpublished or unknown acts especially writers are always very desperate to get attention that they do not do the right thing when they approach these established acts. This is why they are easily taken advantage of.
ReplyDeleteLet Nigeria take copyright issues seriously and support writers especially. That's why you have crappy movies everywhere. There are very talented writers but no enabling environment.
Dishonest thieves steal your idea and end up making a total mess of it. Why not be honest and work with the original owner and see what fantastic result you will achieve?
👍. AI mean what are writers for? Why can't they be supported and get their due? We need a good structure in our entertainment industry.
DeleteThey are producers, actors, directors and they get paid but they want to starve the writers and deny them their entitlements. And these same criminals will go to church and be rebuking evil. God is watching you.
ReplyDeleteGood for her, many of them are like that in the film industry, thieves.
DeleteFellow SDK family help me to thank God. Fire consumed every thing in my house yesterday but no life was lost.
ReplyDeleteEven though we are left with nothing I return all glory to God.
Thank God for your life and that of your family Akudo.

ReplyDeleteOmoni took the guy for granted, now this.
ReplyDeleteHope they find a way of settling amicably.
Oguike thank God for you. Thank God for your family. God will replenish what you lost Amen
ReplyDeletehahahahaha sweet mother, dont worry, i am sure someone will tell us
ReplyDeleteOmoni should face the music since she called it bluff last year when the guy called her out. They are the ones screaming piracy now see what she did. I don't pity her. He who comes to equity must come with clean hands. Mitcheew
ReplyDeleteWow! Serious ish for Omoni.
ReplyDelete*Scratches ear* Stellahipsy oo, I hear say the delta actress @aweleodita wey @mumccyaliyah called out dat time don born for the husband, koko zariah american boy.
Omoli should have paid the guy then now, see mess up she has gotten into now, may God help her out of this
ReplyDeleteWhat she did is against the law, that is if is true
ReplyDeleteGood for her
ReplyDeleteIt serves her right
ReplyDeleteRiding on another person's back have become like a birth right for some. Till they jam!!!
ReplyDeleteOne day one day monkey dey go market...
He / she no go return.
Intellectual property rights is something not even recognized to the foolish & greedy people. They are always for unwitting host to entertain their madness & that ever desperate spirit of stealing another person's concept or ideas.
After this episode even any single word coming from omoni oboli mouth will be treated worse & rejected quicker than Hillary clinton's lies.
She should have settled the guy, She wan show the guy say she get connection. The guy no make noise he went straight to court simple.
ReplyDeleteI won't be surprise if her so called friends who were dancing n celebrating wit her few days back r actually here dissing her under anon mode...Life!
ReplyDeleteGive the guy credit for his work. No originality at all. Any fantastic movie u see in niaja most of them are copied. See husband for hire!!! Copied. Atleast give credit. Mtcheeeeee
