Chronicle Of Blog Visitor Narrative...

Na wah oh...

STAND ALONE MARRATIVE
ADDICTION:...

Hi Stelz,
I hope this meets you well. Don't mind my typing errors ooo.
I am in such a bad and terrible state right now. We are orphans, I and my big brother but mum provides everything we could ever need. My brother is addicted to tramadol.

It all started in the year 2014, my elder brother was working on the Island and doing very well for him self, we were proud of him and he was one hell of a cute guy but one day he came home and told us he was sacked from work.
I, my mum and my step-dad asked what led to his dismissal but he just told us a story and mum welcomed him back home with open arms.

One night, mum called and told me that something happened to him ooo, when I got there I was told he had seizures, I was like seizures ke. Mum is a good Christan so she took the matter as a spiritual attack, she became a prayer warrior and I saw my mum emaciate greatly due to prayer and fasting.

Three weeks after the first seizure attack, he had another. Mum was crying thinking her first son was going to die but after about 10 minutes of violent jerking, he became conscious again then I started suspecting epilepsy but this is a guy that has never had epilepsy before so that thought died. Remember he wasn't working again so mum was responsible for his upkeep and pocket money. Whenever we suggested we take him to a hospital he would decline saying he knows what is happening to him.

We received a call one day that he had fallen down at the bus stop. Chai! see shame but we went there and carried him home, it was that day he told mum that tramadol is the reason for all that's happening to him. My pity for him turned into anger immediately, mum was crying me sef forming strong man joined her crying then my brother promised he was going to stop taking tramadol. Mum decided to help find him a job, he got the job but after a week, mum received a call from his boss asking why she brought someone with epilepsy to his hotel, he had another seizure there. That was how he lost that job.

The seizures became a regular visitor to my brother every 3 weeks, he became a shadow of his former self, so lean and even started to wear my clothes because he had no clothes again. We all begged him to stop even my mum and step dad but he wouldn't bulge and this started causing quarrel between my parents.

My mum smiles and tries to behave that every thing is cool but deep down I know she isn't happy. She is filled with sadness knowing that her first son has turned to a problem and source of concern to her.

Please anyone reading this taking tramadol should
stop oo because the after effect is so bad.
This is his number 090********, l am not asking for anything from anyone but someone should just call him to tell him mum loves him so much that if not for anything but because of the sacrifices she has made and being a widow at 24 and having to do many kinds of job for us to survive. He has brought her lots of pain and tears. #our case is different.

*I took out the number,I dont think it is a good idea to expose him to strange phone calls.
Please if you are reading this and can help her brother fight the addiction, please drop your contact in the comment section,I will enable it for her to be able to contact you.
Good luck

    3. Tramadol is a narcotic-like pain reliever. Tramadol is used to treat moderate to severe pain. The extended-release form of tramadol is for around-the-clock treatment of pain"

      It's harmful when used carelessly!

      Delete
    4. Tramadol is an opioid analgesic, meaning it is very addictive. Dear poster, your brother is most probably addicted to it, reason he is unable to stop and the seizures are side effects of excessive intoxication.
My suggestion: please take him to any Neuropsychiatric Hospital. Aro is a good place, they have very good rehabilitation plans. I know this cause I am a Psychiatric Nurse and I work there

      Fasting for what exactly
And poster sorry for your pain but biko there are no orphans with mums and step-dads

I feel sorry for you but I also do not feel sorry for people with your type of reasoning
Please take your brother to a rehab and stop stressing yourself

    8. This poster story is similar to the one that happened last year in school at my hostel, the guy went to fetch water from the tap and fell and started having seizures, I thought he was going to die oh, everybody was praying for him, unknown to us that the guy took over dosage of tramadol on an empty stomach and even after this seizure he still continued taking drugs, that is somebody will die because he wants to get high.

    9. The more seizures he has, the more his brain damages. Take him to a psychiatric hospital fast if you love him

    10. My sister use to take this tramadol for cramps.

Someone bought a higher mg for her and she took same dosage. She almost ran mad. That was how she stopped.

Anon 16:07, you didn't read where he said he refuse to go to the hospital and he didn't tell them what was wrong with him initially?

He should be taken to see a professional, there's only so much prayers can do and addiction doesn't just go away. Staying away from it too is easier said than done because his body will revolt once it's not getting that which its used to and I think that's why he gets the seizure's.
Addicts also need to be watched almost round the clock till they recover so they don't harm themselves or others. Getting him a job for now should be on hold till he takes care of his addiction.
Probably why he has nothing even after working because he spent his money buying drugs.
Please let him see a professional ASAP.I'm sure he isn't happy himself but he can't help himself either.
Tramadol is also a common abused drug in the north.

    1. I will go anonymous on this post. Addiction is so horrible. I was once on narcotics drugs (though legally given to me by the doctor). I was on admission in the hospital, had an accident and the drugs also helped to relax n sleep. It got to a point I was the time keeper for the drugs (it is addictive). After a few days I personally started rejecting the drugs because I was getting addicted to it. Your brother needs help pls take him to a psychiatrist or some authority in the field.

  6. For years I worked as a doctor in Nigeria and I must say that doctors have a share of blame in this; the way this very drug is prescribed.
And until Nigeria takes the step to make prescribed drugs unavailable over the counter, the problems persists.
Even Ghana and togo; little countries have done that.
why is everything in Nigeria so difficult?

    1. OMG! Exactly! This is a PRESCRIPTION pain killer and not an OTC drug! Naija which way???

    2. Even Ghana and Togo wtf? What has a country being too little to do with anything? Some of u are so disrespectful. Isn't it even easier for smaller countries to cater for the needs of their citizens than bigger countries? smfh

    3. Thank you. Tramadol is not an over the counter medication.
Should be at the disposal to the public
      Without a proper prescription.

      Delete
    4. Anon, countries like Nigeria know better and should do better. It is not disrespectful. Biko take your vex to another place

      Delete
    5. It is actually not an OTC drug and most big pharmacies will not sell it to you without a prescription. It is gotten from dishonest pharmacies who want to make a quick buck and don't care if you kill yourself with it. Appropriate agencies need to crack down on them

      Delete
  7. What caused him to take the tramadol in the first place cos i know its a pain killer yes? I hear of people getting addicted to pain killers but never read the effects of the addiction. This is so sad. You guys need to get him rehabilitated.someway,somehow. Prayers can work but action needs to be taken to.

Ps- @Eka joy i notice you like yarning dust under my comments. Ive been ignoring. Please cease and desist. SP today was not the first neither was it the second time.

  9. In a country where folks can go to a shop; grocery or patent medicine dealer and buy as much of tramadol and other prescription drugs as they want? What do you expect?
Look at an illustrious soul being rubbished?
Nigerian legislature and and law enforcement agencies should cover their heads in shame! In every other country I know, prescription drugs cannot be bought over the counter. Nigeria is bringing shame to herself as a country.
The legislature is only good at allocating resources to themselves and "padding the budgets" to effect that.

  12. I had to quickly google tramadol and it's effects. Tramadol in itself isn't bad, what's bad is taking the wrong dosage, taking it with alcohol. It'll become a stimulant if it's taken wrongly.

The issue of drug and it's harm when taken in its wrong dosage cannot be overemphasized. Your brother has become an addict to it and it'll be very difficult for him to get off it except Professional help comes to play.
I can understand the frustration from your parents especially your step dad but I don't think anyone takes drugs just because they want to. There is always a reason to it; peer pressure, trying to feel 'good'.. Just get professional help adjust prayers

BTW, you are not an orphan

I think you guys should take him to Yaba, prayers and tears have their role to play and so does medical attention, which yaba or any drug rehabilitation facility will give him. Calling him and reminding him of your mother might send him into a deep end. God forbids he thinks of suicide as the way to end his troubles.

When u take a dose, it will make u sleep for many hours. Then when u wake up all your pains will be gone but you'll feel dizzy and weak. You won't be able to stay on your feet for long cause you'll be very weak. This weakness can last for a day or two.

  24. tramadol! there was a time one stupid doctor gave me the drug and told me to be taking it 2 tablets morning and night, I became a zombie until i went back and complained that I dont know what is wrong with me that she asked me to stop it.

when I had injury on my leg that was what I was taking and the injection also from the hospital because according to the doctors ulcer patient cannot take strong analgesic and I know this is true.

I stopped taking it once i got better.

but recently a doctor prescribed a mild pain relief for me and it works for me.

It is well with your brother.

  28. My dear. Go to a professional or LUTH where they can take him to rehab for him to come clean but he needs to make up his mind that he needs help..Tramadol is a silent killer, it will gradually destroy his kidneys and liver..Take a proactive step today and also back it up with prayers as well..

We live in banana or kangaroo republic, certain drugs shouldnt be sold unless a form or letter of prescription is issued and also confirmed by the doctor before being sold. Nigeria has a long way to go..

  29. Some take it as a sex enhancement drug, others for pain relieve. Once you mistakenly take it along with alcohol, it gives you a 'high' effect that if you start craving it can turn you to an addict. He alone can't solve it, he needs professional help.

Though it would be nice for lawyers to weigh in if Nigeria has any law against this. I would suggest you tell him what you know and ask him what he intends to achieve by marrying wife no 2. Does he want to eat his cake and have it? Involve your families hopefully his famity is not in on this if not na OYO things. I hope you have a source of income though thankfully it's only a kid you have. Men can be wicked sha.

  36. Please, the answer isn't prayers, what he needs is rehabilitation. Nigerians should learn to understand that not every issue is spiritual. Your family should search for a good rehab centre were he can be checked in to and monitored for 6months. I prefer a place close to home. It's going to be a bumpy ride but by proper care and therapy, he will be fine. Our legislators are the laziest set of people. The bill to prevent certain drugs bought above the countered she should passed and enforced. My thoughts and prayers are with your family.

Him staying home for now won't be bad if it's something your family can afford take him to a different location. Friends might also be influencing him so a Change of environment is in order.you can also use the advice of a doctor or better still take him to a rehab if there is any around you. Do not forget that God is supreme in all there is no situation too big for him. He remains God. You are in my thoughts and prayers.#bewell.

  54. Seizure could be caused by a lot of factors. A recurrent pattern seizure is tremedy epilepsy. It is not something that one should be stigmatized against at all. A lot of people have epilepsy Which is well controlled and they live even more healthy live and you and me.
If a seizure isn't controlled and is protracted it can cause damage to the brain and body. You sound educated, so act like it. The church has It's purpose, so those the hospital, bedroom, restaurant etcetera..Please take him to a hospital, let this epilepsy be investigated and stop blaming one innocent being or creature that you are not sure exists biko! Tramadol may/not the cause, getting a thorough investigation is the key.

  55. Madam, it depends on the church you wedded. If its catholic or Anglican church, the marriage certificates are equivalent to that from the court so your husband will be committing bigamy if he marries another in court. The second marriage will be invalid and the court will not wed him once they see your marriage certificate. If on the other hand it was in one of these new generation churches then.....

Why didn't you do a court marriage? The problem with some women is that they don't dot their i and cross their t. When you advise them to cover the legal aspect they will tell you "I don't plan to fight with my husband" forgetting that the husband is one aspect, they may also have his family to contend with if anything goes wrong.

You can find out the court they plan to wed at and go and report that you are married to the man. Usually, the court will paste the names of the man and woman before the court marriage date (just like banns of marriage announced in church) to give anyone that has an objection to the union to step forward with evidence.

Involve his family to intercede if they are on your side. All the best.
