The Australian High Commission is pleased to partner with Empower 54 a Non-governmental organisation, by providing a grant of N11,712,624.00 towards the establishment of a ‘Ready-To-Use Therapeutic Foods’ (RUTF) production program.
The project will save the lives of an estimated 12,000 malnourished children annually in North East Nigeria. The funding will provide for the purchase of ingredients and machinery and the training of production staff to enable the production of RUTF in Nigeria which will be given at no cost to the beneficiaries.
For the first time, RUTF will be produced in Nigeria and it will be given at no charge to 500 children with Severe Acute Malnutrition (SAM) monthly. Empower 54 has also partnered with a United States UN certified RUTF manufacturer, PPB, that will train and offer technical support for this laudable program.
The Nigerian host State for the small-scale production of RUTF will be announced shortly.
Mr Paul Lehmann, Australian High Commissioner to Nigeria and Princess Modupe Ozolua, President Empower 54.
