Shortening English Words...

Cuppy was supposed to say ''I am'' but she said ''Am''...I dont see anything wrong with her shortening out the word ''I''..I may be wrong.....

Some of you need to take it easy how you correct people especially when you are not any better..

Awon I too knows..some things are allowed please...She isnt in a board room meeting and even if she is wrong, isnt she allowed to be wrong?

''Am'' out! *side eyes*

'Um' does not exist. Neither is 'Am' an interchangeable replacement for the contraction "I'm" which is short for 'I am'.
So maybe it's you who does not know the difference between I'm and Am.

  15. Stella please don't be silly. The person correcting Cuppy was very civil sef. This is just to show how social media and the dearth of reading and proper education has totally ruined proper communication. "I'm" is the correct word if she intends to shorten "I am".

Practically every Nigerian now uses "Am" and so ignorantly too which is totally wrong. I even started to wonder if there was a memo that we are now allowed to forget capitalizing the first letter of a noun as we were taught... i.e. "i" instead of "I" irrespective of its position in a sentence, starting or within!

I insisted my younger sister never to send me texts with text speak anymore, that is, if she wants to get anything out of me. It's not wicked... when she learns the proper thing she can decide to use text speak to communicate for want of space or any other reason. Not to be embarrassed she is writing a corporate document or even an important note to some high and mighty person. She now appreciates the the proper methods.

You seldom get a clean statement from millennials not because they don't want to, they are ill equipped now. We need to really look into education o!

Na BBNaija, FB, IG and Twitter everyone wan know now... Girls no dey even read Mills & Boons again, na Kardashian-ish fame or so, so prick dem dey find and the boys; who knows James Harley Chase? Na hammer/Yahoo Yahoo tinz full their brain and those their emails sef, na so, so gbagaun. How some whites fall for those lame ass schemes amaze me!

  16. "Am" is totally wrong no matter how you try to defend it.

"I am or I'm" remains correct, acceptable and standardized whether you're in the board room or online.

Like someone said better don't get used to these 21st century abbreviations; and that everyone is now using it doesn't mean you too should join the bandwagon.

Yes, for a "rich kid" who supposedly had the best of education outside the shores of Nigeria, such wrong usage should not be seen anywhere around her.

So make una free that guy and thank him instead for his observation.

  20. Stellz, no na.

This is wrong. E get some kin mistake pesin no suppose dey make.

'Am' is not a short form of 'I am.' 'I'm' is the short form. And what confuses people that say 'am' is the way 'I'm' is pronounced. But no matter how many people say it, 'am' can never replace 'I'm.'

It's not about boardroom meetings. I mean, you ask people not to send you mails using shorthand. This blog no be boardroom meeting na.

Abeg, what is wrong is wrong. I'm not supporting the way the person up there went about it though.

Plus the fact that humans make mistakes doesn't mean that people should stop taking corrections.

This post is the definition of the word Irony. You guys are pissed at the abuse of written English, but Na same Una no see anything wrong in a mother giving blow job on live TV. Its her her body you say, she didn't know the receiver of Blow job is married many opined, you make excuses and what not in het favour. Then you turn around and scream blue murder over a more than likely deliberate misuse of a word. Even if it wasn't deliberate, you all have shown more angst over a word than you did over a natter of morality and decency. Just negodu!
