PRESS RELEASE
NIGERIAN ARMY JAILS ERRANT PERSONNEL FOR MOLESTING A CIVILIAN
1. In accordance with the Nigerian Army’s policy of zero tolerance to unprofessional conduct as well as its uncompromising stance on discipline and commitment to the rule of law, 6 Division Nigerian Army has charged, tried and found Private Suleiman Olamilekan of 6 Division Garrison, Port Harcourt guilty of the maltreatment of Miss Ebere Ohakwe. He was accordingly sentenced to 28 days Imprisonment with Hard Labour (IHL) and the forfeiture of his salary for same number of days to the Federal Government of Nigeria.
2. It would be recalled that there was a report in the social media that the soldier maltreated one Miss Ebere Ohakwe at Omagwa Checkpoint along Port Harcourt - Onitsha Road on 30th January 2017. This prompted the decision of the authorities of the Headquarters 6 Division to thoroughly investigate the matter with the view to serving justice adequately as required by the laws of the Nigerian Army. Consequently, the General Officer Commanding 6 Division Nigerian Army, Major General Enobong Okon Udoh ordered the immediate arrest of the soldier and his Guard Commander for investigation and disciplinary action. He also invited the victim to his office and assured her that the matter would not be treated lightly.
3. We wish to assure the general public that proactive measures have been put in place to forestall a reoccurrence of such misconduct in the future. We will equally welcome prompt and accurate reports of any such misconduct within Rivers, Bayelsa, Akwa Ibom and Delta States to appropriate superior authority via the following numbers: 09072509436, 09072509437 and 09072509438.
4. We also wish to reassure the general public of our commitment to their safety and security as required by the laws of our great nation while soliciting the support and cooperation of all towards eradicating all forms of criminality within our society.
5. You are kindly requested to disseminate this information to the general public.

ReplyDelete28 days?
ReplyDeleteThat bleached out animal up there deserve to be locked up for years...
Tuuuuueh! Spits
28 days is too light a sentence as far as am concerned. He could have killed that lady in the process. Barrister Emeka of DPA is furious because she seems to be conniving with the army because of 250k hush money and portraying him as the bad guy who intruded into a matter that he wasn't invited to.
ReplyDeleteThis case should have been well dealt with to minimize future harassment on citizens and she opted out just like that.
Only 28days??
ReplyDeleteThey no try oo
@viva go spent 28 days in d guard room b4 u say it's too small
Delete28days us small na,but am glad justice is served.

ReplyDeleteBastard Nigerian Army ! I don't even know what they are feeling like, they should be ashame of themselves the people they should be protecting are the ones they are fighting ... lazy idiots ... why are they called Army if they can not go for war and fight the blood suckers boko Haram ... may dem receive sense before God go start to dey punish them..
ReplyDelete28days Kwa, mbanu that is too small biko
ReplyDeleteWhy 28 days? Please this people should wake up!
ReplyDeleteIt is good. Going a month without pay in these times is even harder than the 28 days in jail. At least something was done.
ReplyDelete28day only. Metewwww
ReplyDeleteI'm impressed with the way army authority handles abuse of power by their personnel. They investigate, persecute if guilty, compensate when necessary, and release press statement to assure civilians that no erred personnel will go scot-free unlike how the Police force does theirs and sweeps the incidence under carpet. Happy Justice served!
